3. I agree one hundred percent. It always bothers me when female characters get all this hate for not good reason AT ALL. And then there's all those stupid-ass arguments, like 'they get in the way of teh ghei'

I think I love you, whoever you are!

[identity profile] icthyopook.livejournal.com 2007-08-20 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I love what you said about 3. 'they get in the way of teh ghei' lol. XD

It's sad how a lot of yaoi fangirls forget that most series actually have... A STORY? D: And uh... the characters are supposed to support said story. Most anime aren't meant to be men orgys of ghei awesome lolz. :/ And it'd suck if they were.

9. OHMYGOD A GSS SECRET. I love you for making this. Also I'm pretty sure I know who you are from the forums, but my lips are sealed, fear not. And yes, Robin is awesome.

... incidentally, I look like Ryo IRL. This scares me.

[identity profile] jukebox-hero.livejournal.com 2007-08-20 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
#4. God, I hate them, too. But at least they don't have some huge, obnoxious graphic to go along with it. *coughRPspammerscough*

#6. YES.

#8. Mpreg will ruin anything. *shudders*

#13. If you're who I think you are, it's totally your fault that I'm into that pairing now. XD

[identity profile] hamburger.livejournal.com 2007-08-20 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
10. Uh. What's wrong with trying to make money? That's what selling prints is all about. It's not like you're deceiving anyone. They want a nice picture of said character, and you're providing it. If they buy it, they like what they see, and everyone's happy.

It's called being a smart business person.

Methinks there's some other issues you have with this person, if you consider this to be such a sin.

o_o IAWTC.

3. It makes me sad that yaoi fangirls hate the characters I love. If they have a good reason why they dislike them besides "they are sluts" or "get in the way of our pairing", that's okay. But most of the time, I don't see any D:

6. I guess people have different opinions on the fanart matter. It's a touchy subject. *sigh* I feel kinda dumb for wishing we had a giant topic where we could discuss this politely. *dodges shoes*

6

(Anonymous) 2007-08-21 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
If you're dumb then I am too. D:

One reason I made the secret was actually in hopes of starting a discussion on it (the other was admitting I was a biased, prejudiced moron when it comes to this). I'm really not as angry about it as I look like I am up there; secrets just tend to attract more attention the more aggressive they sound. I'm all up for conversations where nobody's going to get chewed up!

10. Hey someone else I know popped up on here!

It's not uncommon for people to draw what's popular for sale at conventions. Actually that's pretty much the only guaranteed way to make a decent pull in, and if you're an artist that kind of needs the profits it's a common sense thing to ask what's "in" to appeal to their customers.

Personally what I like to draw and what happens to be popular fall under the same fandoms, so I'm saved from having to make that choice. But I don't judge other artists who decide to as well.

6. While I don't think everyone will feel the exact same way, I have to agree with you on the majority of what you wrote.

I would find it flattering if someone used my art in their icon, but if they took it as far as claiming it as their own? Erm, not so much. XD;;

This comment is so much funnier with your icon. I remember those rabid fans who shipped my favorite pairing... At first it was an embarrassment, but now it's kinda funny.

2. Now that sucks. :(

3. I would think I knew you, but those aren't fandoms the person I'm thinking of is into. ^^'

4. God, yes. :( I don't care if every single post links back to their writing journal or something, I still have to see 194710470 posts about it. I think that three crossposts is enough. Two is great.

6. I see what you did there. ♥ (Honestly, I'd be overjoyed if someone used my art, but that's because my art is shitty. XD They wouldn't even have to credit.)

13. I know who you are~ ♥

24. I... want to know where you got your brushes. :) They're gorgeous. (but yeah word on your secret. Ship what you want because you want to. Not because it's popular or unpopular or obscure or well known. Do it because you LIKE IT.)

6

(Anonymous) 2007-08-21 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
o rly? ♥

(Everybody thinks their art sucks. And as they say, one man's junk is another's treasure. My stupid drawing was almost a year old when it was iconned and I had better pictures of the character posted in the same gallery... but they still chose that one for some reason. x( I guess in their eyes it must have been more worthy. Who knows, maybe somebody'll think that way of yours too.

I didn't ask for credit and they gave me none, but right then I didn't care. I still don't, really, but for more reasons than just one. I don't want that picture attached to my name. xD It's baaaad.)

3. Chicks are hated vastly in fandom. It makes me sad. D:

8. Mpreg = lame cheesy plot device for those who believe couples can only be *real* couples if they have a children. Or the types who like "LULZ CRACK!!!1". Either way, lame. ADOPTION, ANYONE? It's just as much your kid, you know!

10. So...? People do commissions of characters they don't know well all the time. How's that any different?

11. Regret is overrated!

3: It's so awful when you're "out" as a super slash fan and then people EXPECT you to hate those female characters. I almost wish I were you. Really, there's only one anime girl I absolutely can't stand, and it's not even because she "gets in the way" of the slash (she has two canon love interests and I only slash one of them; the other is wide open). SO. DUMB.

17: Echoing the "word" vibes here. I might be like "oh, it's so canon, lawl," but I never mean that, you know, it's actually canon. I just mean "holy buttsexsubtext, Batman!" And I can't stand those fanbrats that try to PROVE to you that it is SO canon by shoving little dropped hints and subliminal snippets in your face. :/

TWENTY FOOOOOOOUR!

[identity profile] sparklemagpie.livejournal.com 2007-08-20 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)

6: I would actually feel the same way with you if one of my fanart pieces was used as an icon. THrilled.

Unfortunately it works very, very differently for Japanese artists and some other Asia ones. Seriously. I got literally told by them one "can you tell all your friends to stop taking our images and posting them elsewhere/cropping and modifying them for their own use/using them in their layout". Whether you agere with it or not is a separate issue but it is like that.

21: OH LMAO
I actually used to think that way for a short while too until my undying obsession with him took over my brain. Eh.

(Anonymous) 2007-08-21 08:02 am (UTC)(link)
re 6: yeah the japanese fanartists are very protective over their work. I applaud everytime another japanese artist takes down their website. Because they know just as well as everyone else that the only way to stop people from posting their work elsewhere/making them into layouts or icons is to simply not post it up at all.

personally, I don't see the harm in using fanart in icons and layouts as long as it is credited to the correct person, but whatever...some people are just anal about it.

(Anonymous) 2007-08-20 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
10: Hahahaha, I completely agree. I understand what people are saying about commissions, but that is someone specifically asking you to draw character X for them. And I think a lot of people who want artist ___ to draw ___ from ____ know that that artist does art for that series. (Not the case all the time, of course, but usually) I watch a guy who draws a lot of Naruto stuff. And his commissions are Naruto characters or Naruto fan characters 90% of the time. There is another person who does pretty much only HP stuff... and the FMA person, and on and on.

I understand it's hard to make money on prints sometimes, but I don't think that excuses the fact that you try to make money off of a series you know nothing about. Selling prints is very borderline legal as it is. And, if the picture used is related, that makes this hilarious. She has a published series, and if someone made prints from her series, I think she would throw a tantrum. But it would be just like other people making prints from manga or anime series. What if they didn't even buy her books? Don't you think that is painful, having someone make money off of a series that they didn't help in any way?

Hey OP, good secret, I agree.

[identity profile] hamburger.livejournal.com 2007-08-20 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I understand it's hard to make money on prints sometimes, but I don't think that excuses the fact that you try to make money off of a series you know nothing about.

... why? What does it matter?

I don't know. I know I wouldn't give a flying toaster if someone who drew an awesome fanart of a character I liked didn't know anything about the character. I'm buying it for the visual appeal, after all. They do a good job? They can have my money. It's an exchange of a service for money.
