What is "knotting" reference to? (also what is a/b/o?) I don't even know how I would begin googling for this, sorry to be that person. :/

A self-lubing anus sounds kinda great though.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-15 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
"Knotting" refers to the fact that dog pansies have a 'knot' (really some kind of gland) that forms at the base of their penis while they're having sex. It stops the penis coming out of their partner, making sure their sperm can get in and do its thing. This results in the two dogs being 'tied' together for a few minutes until the swelling at the base of the penis goes down and it can be taken out. Knotting appears in a lot of werewolf fan fics and it's a kink for some people.

A self-lubing anus sounds kinda great though.

It would also be useful for constipation, not just for sexual purposes, IMO.

the female dicks part is what squicks me the most about this trope, I'll admit

(Anonymous) 2013-12-15 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
The chicks with dicks part is the only squick I have with it.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-15 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
So I'm guessing vaginas are icky and unwanted in this trope?

That's...disappointing.

That's part of the trope? Now I'm more interested than I've ever been. It's the "soul bonding" and genetic submissive/dom stuff that gets me.

But that sounds so fucking boring. If you're adventurous enough to invent uterus-connected-rectums, why is it so hard to invent some kind of egg-depositing vaginas?

Honestly I can usually hand wave all that shit, what gets me is the biological imperative for dom/sub and positions. I like choices and free will in my sexytimes.

those, I assumed didn't have any men

Secret 11 - Alpha/Beta/Omega dynamics, fanfiction

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-15 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is the Greek uppercase letter "Omega". It looks like kind of like a fancy horseshoe.]

I think I could get really into Alpha/Beta/Omega dynamic fics, because they have a lot of kinks I like (Dominance/submission, mating drives, pair-bonding, marking, possessiveness...), but I can't get over all the weird anatomy/biology stuff. (Self-lubricating anuses? Male pregnancy? Knotting? And why does everyone have a penis? You can have a vagina and be dominant without suddenly sprouting a dick.)

It's really disappointing.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-15 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I made up my mind at one point to at least try reading an A/B/O fic. Unfortunately, I picked a smut one, and the descriptions just made me go "oh god, rectovaginal fistula!" and nope right the fuck on out of there. Every time I see one now I get a brief hit of absolute revulsion, and it's really screwing up my fic time. :/

I've only read 2 A/B/O fics, I'd run out of S/L and gen casefic and was bored. The first one I read was so bad, the writing was terrible and judging from the comments, the author bought into the "rape is love" trope. Also, it was tagged sherstrade and there was no sherstrade.

The other one was well-written, but I still don't understand the appeal of A/B/O even when it's a pairing I ship.

what about the overpopulation

(Anonymous) 2013-12-15 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I was going to make a similar secret, but instead of the biological/anatomy thing being the "huh, wait" factor, it would be the fact that with so many copulations during heat/fertility...

why are there no overpopulation problems?

is fecundation rare?

I skim over anything I find too ridiculous or offputting. Like the self lubricating anus.

I wish there weren't so much dick-vaginas though.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-16 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
I feel your pain, OP. I read a lot of weird shit, and I don't know why A/B/O just really isn't my thing, but I'm constantly reading descriptions for fics that sound awesome until I read the A/B/O warning. It's frustrating.

[personal profile] thecrazyalaskan 2013-12-16 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
I feel you, OP. I like the general idea of a/b/o, but I've never really seen it done in a way that didn't squick me out. My suggestion is just say to hell with it and make your own version that works for you. Granted, it'll suck when it comes time to read fic, though...

I read A/B/O because I like sex pollen tropes

(Anonymous) 2013-12-16 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
A/B/O is more common, generally speaking, but if you choose your fics right, then the weirdness of the A/B/O universe isn't even important. The mushing of kinks takes a little getting used to, though, so it took me months before I could really read a sex scene all the way thru.

I feel your pain. I tried reading some A/B/O fic (after fearfully avoiding it for years) and I managed to get into some of them until they got into talk of knots and the biological differences.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-16 06:08 am (UTC)(link)
Oh look, another secret complaining about A/B/O, we haven't had one in at least a week.

It gets boring.
