So... I should change my preferences so you won't get laughed at?

If you don't want to talk me about the fun colourful games I like like Katamari and Tetris Worlds that's fine - you don't want to talk about stuff that doesn't interest you and that's your choice. Your friends that won't shut up about Pokemon even though they're aware you don't like it are being rude.


But with this secret, so are you.

Don't make it out like I'm an EMBARASSMENT to the title of girl gamer just because I've never played Halo and it's ilk. Those are not the kinds of games I enjoy playing.

Yes I have tried all kinds of different games, but the ones I enjoy best are fun and light hearted and consist mostly of puzzles or beating shit up - or a little of both like Devil May Cry. I've tried all different genres but I just don't like FPS games, or strategy games, or games that are built to scare me.

Not wanting to talk about games with me is one thing, behaving like I should 'do better' is another entirely. I and the girls that share my tastes are not the problem here.

Anyone who would LAUGH at you because of the games that other people who share your genitals like needs to go choke on something.

9. I love Wild Adapter. I don't know that I like better than I like Saiyuki, but it's a close thing. Honestly, though, I'm glad it's not as popular. It would make me very, very sad to see the same kind of character and canon butchering done to Wild Adapter that I see in parts of Saiyuki fandom.

Um... the term "gamer" was first used, basically, to refer to table-top RPers and LARPers. So I guess everyone that loves Halo and other FPSs but have never played a round of D&D falsely identifies as a gamer, too? If the original definition isn't relevant anymore, then who gets to decide what a "gamer" means? The OP? You? The secret in question wasn't JUST talking about Final Fantasy. This is something you'd notice if you actually read the secret! The OP basically classes ALL RPGs and ALL "cutesy" and "quirky" games under the umbrella of being unworthy. So saying "You wouldn't call yourself an "avid movie watcher" if all you saw this year was Superbad, would you?" is a faulty comparison. It's more like telling someone who watched nothing but teenage fare and comedies that they are not an avid movie watched because they don't like the things that are not in line with your tastes.

From reading, the negative response to the secret is not "BUT I LIKE FINAL FANTASY FUCK YOU!!!!!!!!111" it's "Ummmmm, liking these games isn't just a girl thing, and my liking of these games shouldn't be bruising your delicate flower of a 'girl gamer' ego."

27. HEAR HEAR! Not all anime fans are weeaboo. I'm fighting this stereotype as well. It makes me sick to think that just because I draw in an anime-inspired style, that I like fanart, watch anime, and collect anime paraphernalia that I am just as bad in their eyes as the people who I shake my head at in shame--like fangirls running around screaning "I'M MARRIED TO DEIDARA" and stuff, acting like characters are real, and that, of everyone in the world in a fandom, the character they like belongs to THEM and only THEM and if anyone says otherwise it's LOLDRAMAZ.

The OP probably isn't who I want it to be, but I need to get this off my chest. I've been wanting to say this for months.

I had no right to say those things. I regret it every day, and I have for the past year. It still keeps me up at night.

I was annoyed. I didn't mean them.

I regret that our friendship had to end that way. You were hurt, and I feel terrible about it.

But it was going to happen anyway.

What I now call a "friendship" was, at its end, a tenuous one at best. It seemed like the only times you ever spoke to me were to criticize something I'd done or said. "Advice" you deemed "helpful" wasn't. It was just a laundry list of my faults. Whenever I'd try to strike up a conversation, you made me feel like an idiot.

So...I'm sorry. I'm sorry that I hurt your feelings, and I'm sorry if I ruined any fandoms for you. Rest assured, I'm having issues with the fandoms you introduced me to, as well. I was sorry when we had our fight, and I'm just as sorry now, a year later.

I had no right to say those things. But neither did you.

...God, that was cathartic.

I'm about 95% sure I'm not the person you want me to be, which makes me about equally sure that you're not the person I was hoping you'd be.

Still. I guess, having noted that, this isn't going to count for much but...I'm sorry, too. I'm sorry that this has haunted you for so long. I've been through the scenario you described, too, and nobody should have to deal with a "friendship" like that. I'm sorry that you did.

We are not making you look bad by playing different games than you, we are just playing what we like :). Both of us can live in the same world without fighting. The use to play FPS as well as RPGs, but since a few years ago I found that while the graphics were better the gameplay was just not fun to me anymore. I miss the old days of the first DOOM, when FPS and RPGs lived together in peace :)

25. I used to love online fps, mainly Counterstrike, but I hate all the jerky guys that play them too. Putting up with their trash talk is so not worth my time. Single player fps aren't my thing either, mainly cause most of them are in the horror genre and I hate horror anything. Shooting hoardes of zombies? No thanks. Capturing ghosts with my magical camera obscura? Pass. Fending off bloody nightmares with a crowbar? Yeah, no. It's not because they're too hard, it's that they freak me the fuck out.

Like you have to be into fps to be a real gamer anyway. I mean srsly, bitch plz.

Yes. Obviously girls need to stop playing the games they like and play the ones that'll make them respected instead. Respected by guys, even. Guys who judge you based on what kind of games you like to play. Obviously.

Also? It's wrong for guys and girls to have different preferences, and if they do, it's obviously the guys' preferences that are right and better. And the girls should strive to have the same taste or not play at all, because having their own, different taste is embarrasing!
