Here the situation gets ignored until the rich fucks on the edge of London get a half inch of water in their oversized back gardens, then it's all hands on deck, call in the Army... oh, we may as well help those poor people in Somerset too.

At least, that's how it appeared from the outside during the flooding in the UK at the start of the year, that not much got done until the Thames started to get a bit high.

Around here, it's quite common for one of the rivers to get a bit swollen after the rains. The villages along the flood-prone portions haven't got any houses too close to the river, and the farmers have alternate fields to put their livestock in.

I thought one was either agnostic or atheist, how are you both?

I've seen fics where they are both woobified.

The name is stupid? It just looks like it could be a nonstandard Romanization of an Anglo-Saxon name...

I have so many questions about FtM trans bodies but can never find a good source and it always seems rude to ask about people's privates. And it's not like I'm asking for voyeuristic purposes, but it still feels really invasive and like there's never a good time or place to ask about it...other than a therapist or doctor or something and I don't have access to those.

I dunno what the wank can be about, though. I mean, somebody could say "no, I think the Old Testament can be interpreted the right way and be used as a holy book", and then I'd be like "okay, I don't agree, but it's a matter of personal opinion". Bingo?

And I guess someone could tell me I'm being offensive (and I'm sorry if I hurt somebody's feelings, I did not mean for it to be about individual people), but that's about it.

I wouldn't want it to turn into a wank thread, either :/ I hate the stuff.

I'm so sorry to hear that. *hugs* I recently lost my own grampa and it still hurts.

My morale. My morale is up up up.
I've started my internship in an immuno-haematology lab. The people here are nice, the machines for analysis are all shiny and cool-looking and the manual testing on the side looks fun and there're swivel chairs and cool labcoats for everyone, plus free chocolate buns in the breakroom and nobody looks at me funny for using the hot-water fountain without adding coffee nor tea in my mug.
The only thing I find lacking is a secure bike rack.

yessssssss

I am completely going to start doing this. Put "Ashoken Farewell" on Youtube and imagine everything being read in an old-timey voice. It's going to happen.

I can handle a lot in the horror genre (not that I often do, but I can) but eyes are fucking precious and the thought of losing my eyesight is one of my worst nightmares. I have good vision, don't even wear glasses, but I completely understand why this is a thing that freaks you out.

why is incest between two consenting siblings considered amoral?

i'm not asking because i ship anything, it's just something that has always confused me. i understand the issue when there's power dynamics involved like with parents or whatever.

I have a coffee mug that's a replica of one from one of my favorite sitcoms and it always cheers me up. Especially when I'm drinking coffee out of it at work, it's like I'm secretly cosplaying.

agnostic=doesn't think they can know if there is a god
atheist=lacks belief in a god

The "agnostic" part is kinda unnecessary because in many cases "atheist" implies "agnostic", but I want to make it very clear that I am not saying "I know there is no god".

I read a book once about a Jewish girl who lived in Japan for awhile with her husband while he was there for work. One of the things she talked about was how at both the Hiroshima museum there and the Holocaust museum, the thing that got her the most were the glasses. Especially at the Holocaust museum, it really effected her to know that someone could just take her glasses away and make her blind because they wanted to.

Agnostic means 'without knowledge', and atheist means 'without god'. An atheistic stance means you don't believe in a god/gods, while an agnostic stance means you don't believe you can prove god/gods exist or don't exist. So you can believe but not be able to prove that belief (agnostic theist), or disbelieve and not be able to prove it (agnostic atheist), and either way you'll be agnostic.

One is related to knowledge/proof, the other is related to belief.

You sound like a pretty low key, well adjusted fan who enjoys music and isn't overtly into celebrity, so I don't see how that's being a bad fan.
