Shouldn't this be in the Games thread?

Top Gear/Silent Hill.

Oh wait, that one was written already.

CJ is one of the most well-balanced Grand Theft Auto protagonists. He can have a good time with family and friends and it's just as natural to him as a crazy jetpack-powered killing spree. I don't know where people are getting this idea that being a criminal means having no loyalties or other interests in life, and I think GTA is richer for having characters that are complete (if flawed) human beings.

Your secret makes my day!

You're not alone. I'm a big fan of breaking up and making up, handled well. But then I also like stories driven by misunderstandings, assuming the conflict doesn't drag on too long and is ultimately solved by-- wait for it-- communication.

This is an obvious troll, but Miyazaki honestly IS kind of a pretentious grumpy old man. He is still a very good director regardless, though.

Do you think any cryptids (I mean creatures like Bigfoot more than the coelacanth here) have an actual shot at being real? What legends do you find the most intriguing? I think Thunderbirds are fascinating:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thunderbird_(cryptozoology)

But I'm skeptical that any of it is real. Still neat stories, though.

How would you do in prison?

(Anonymous) 2014-07-02 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Let me guess, you're one of those butthurt anime fans who got upset about his comments on the anime industry.

"You Got a Friend in Me" and, while not friendship per se, "Nobody Else but You" from A Goofy Movie.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-02 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
A cursory search does not reveal any such belief on his part. In fact the plot of the book doesn't really support the idea that the cryptid in question exists.

The going-slow thing is a bit annoying. I'm still reading, but I just bookmark whatever page I left it on, leave it alone for a couple of months, and then catch up again. Rinse and repeat.

I don't think Tarvek's dead. Well, depending on when the time stop came into effect relative to the effect of the poison. But. Probably not dead.

I hope not, anyway. I love the squirrelly little schemer. Him, Klaus, Moloch, Violetta, Axel, Zeetha and Mama Gkika are my favs, with Da Boyz in behind them.

+1

Plus, being grumpy and a little pretentious is hardly the worst failing when it comes to famous directors. Roman Polanski, Woody Allen and Bryan Singer immediately spring to mind.

No, just everything related to anime and J-pop.

I wonder that every time I see a TV show or movie where someone's in prison. On the one hand, I am a lazy fuck and part of me thinks it's a great excuse for sitting around on my ass all day doing nothing. On the other hand, I hate living by other peoples' rules and I have issues with authority figures, small spaces, sharing small spaces with people, and bad food.

Cryptozoology is fascinating. I incorporated it into a short story once. I never got the YEC connection either, but I live in Europe, so that really might be different.

What kind of prison and where? That's the most important question.

Kiddo, the weeaboos hate this guy (and he hates them) due to lack of sexualized school girls in his works and not enough hyper-violence. He hates them for insisting every cartoon has to be about hyper violent catgirl maids and not actual characters.

Humor is really subjective, but some of the things that have made me laugh hard enough to forget I was down are (in no particular order): Archer, Bob's Burgers, A Bit of Fry and Laurie (S1-3), My Name is Earl (S1&2?), Key&Peele, Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23.

Also, for some reason anything where "bad guys" get a non-violent comeuppance always lifts my spirits. Two old shows for this are The Pretender and the old Mission Impossible series.

Also ... the 6 ep OVA of Magic User's Club. It's sweet and silly and the fanservice isn't too OTT.

Scrubs. Helped me through the worst depressive period of my life.

Even when it's a sad ending, the next episode usually makes it all better.
