I don't give a damn about kids, but I'm a bit pissed that there won't be pools.

No pools! How ever will I drown my sims now? (Or is that why there are no pools?)

NO POOLS?!

I don't really care about kids either, but I dunno, Sims without them will seem sort of...off.

My Sims rarely have kids so the toddler thing won't effect me much if/when I play, but... I don't get why they're doing away with them either. It seems odd.

And no pools is sacrilege. (Even though I've never drowned my Sims or killed them in general like a lot of people do. I spend too much time making them and then get overtly attached.)

I've been playing TS2 since the free download and I enjoy it far more than 3. It's probably just nostalgia, though. Don't care about 4. They're all close enough to the same that I don't feel like giving EA anymore money.

There are aspects of TS3 that I really like, but I just think it's so much easier to control interacting stories across multiple homes in TS2. For instance, right now I've got Brandi Broke living with the Caliente sisters while Dustin raises his brothers and is dating Angela Pleasant, who herself is going through a family crisis as her dad got caught with the maid (on the same day her mom was fired, poor Mary-Sue).

IDK, maybe I just never figured out how to have multiple homes that all interacted but were still controllable by me for all the big things in TS3. Plus I was the anon from a few days ago who just largely didn't care about watching my Sims run/bike/subway to work (nor could I figure out how to make them pack a lunch, so they were always whining.)

And TS4 is doing away with toddlers, huh? I'd always thought newborn would be a better age to drop, because at least toddlers can do things (though I hated that you couldn't take then to community lots). As long as women aren't birthing school-aged kids in TS4, I'll withhold judgment.

i'm having a hard time understanding how a sims game could be not bland

i mean, it's the SIMS for god's sake -- let alone the fact that most more traditional sim games are even blander

Personally I like it because of the style of the faces compared to 3; the faces in 3 are all...too round and babylike for my tastes? Kind of uncanny valley?
So basically my reason for liking 2 is pretty much shallow aesthetic preference, lol. If it hadn't been for that I would have probably played 3 more.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-06 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
i;ve been playing sims 2 recently and i like sims 3 marginally more, but that might be because i don't play it to create large stories. i like to watch my sims act and react on their own and sims 2 was not ideal for that. they focused way too much on whatever their aspiration was and all of their wants were saturated by them. meh.

plus i fucking love the traits feature.

otherwise, the lack of toddler's confuses me. it's going to be weird as shit and even annoying to have sims start out as infants and then spontaneously turn into a 6-10 year old. i'm pretty sure they're going to be included in EPs or through patches, which annoys me a lot. EA is charging $65+ for what's basically an incomplete game that needs a bunch of shit that it should already have. you shouldn't have to rely on EPs to age your sims in a sensical manner.

Strangetown aside, yeah, the actual gameplay is bland. Personally, I like it that way because it's easy to control.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-07 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
I love everything about Sims 3 but I do feel that Sims 2 had better stories? The premade characters feel more fleshed out than the ones in Sims 3. For instance, I could go for hours reading all the in-universe theories behind Bella Goth's disappearance. None of the characters in 3 really hold that kind of fascination for me.

So basically, I prefer 3's game play but wish it came with more of a sort of story line to it. With 3 I'd much rather make and play my own Sims than play around with any of the premade families like I would do with 2.

TS2 had better overall mechanics than TS3. I have a hard time picking a favorite though because 3 is more complex and I like complexity. But I can see why people prefer TS2 - I did for a while too.

Anyway, I hope TS4 is a good mix of complexity and good play mechanics. And I am pissed about the toddlers, because families are a big part of how I play. I'm actually less disappointed about the pools than the toddlers. However, I'm overall just annoyed at what a blatant, transparent moneygrab it is and how much they're taking the fanbase for granted.

I played Sims 2 for about eight years before falling out of love with it. It was such a huge step up from Sims 1, and I really got into customizing everything from a completely empty neighborhood on up, even the Pollination Technicians. Sims 3 didn't appeal to me at all when it came out, but I followed some simblrs and got into it last year. I've never been able to play one family for generations or keep any kind of neighborhood story or theme going, even very loosely, so I love being able to switch families (or set awful characters loose in the town) without the old ones getting frozen in time forever, among lots of other things. Sims 4 seems like Sims 1 with super-cartoony graphics to me, I don't get it. Maybe later I will, when Sims 5 is already coming out, lol.

Well it's a bit depressing to find they've left out features, especially since I have basically already paid for my game.

On the other hand, Sims 3 was my favourite, and I simply can't play it anymore. The game crashes within 10 minutes of loading, and at the most I might get one save in, but not long enough for me to have got any series play in.

Right now I am far more hopeful about the entertainment qualities of Inquisition than this post has made me feel about Sims 4. Oh for some simple hack&slash!

(Anonymous) 2014-08-07 01:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I totally agree with this!
TLDR: I was raised with TS1 but since I was so interested in it I didn't care about getting TS2 or even checking it out. Now I play TS3 a lot and I've checked out TS2 but it's just not good enough for me to keep playing. And there's no shame in thinking that.

I find Sims 2 to be more fun to me than Sims 3, though I never had many expansion packs for the Sims 3 so that might be part of the reason. I love being able to have my own business in 2, I think that is my favorite expansion pack along with the university one.

I'm torn on sims 4. I love the CAS demo, but I will miss basements and pools and toddlers and all the little details that make the sims seem more real life. And the career tracks in 4 are ridiculous.
