You know, I hold my tongue 90% of the time when it comes to politics online*, but I'm just going to welcome the shit-storm for once.

Why do people act surprised when a Jewish person supports Israel? Do you really think that we're going to denounce the only country in the world that will stand for us the next time we get turned on by the local population? I support Israel because I believe it will support me if I need it. And if you say I have a persecution complex, go open a fucking history book.

*Because GODDAMMIT it took every bit of my self-control when someone on my facebook said something like, "if you don't think raising the minimum wage is the best idea EVAR for EVERY REASON you shouldn't be my friend". I said nothing than, I'm gonna say something now.

I haven't seen anyone wanting her to die. I've seen a lot of comments since she died about karma.

I think she was vile, horrible jokes about women being ugly and fat, which is clearly hilarious, judging others in a nasty and mean way. Racist jokes and of course her comments about Palestinians.

I really don't think she's disliked because she supported Israel, it was her nastiness and mean comments.

Still even if I really dislike her, I still wouldn't have wished her dead.

(I wrote this in ughsocialjustice) Meanwhile, in Argentina, Gustavo Ceratti (an Argentinian singer) passed away after being in coma for almost 4 years and all South America mourns him. And while you can see some posts here about it (where almost all of these are in Spanish), I don't know if it should make me bitter or happy that SJW are US-Centric ("Another white man dead? good!").

I would never root for anyone to die, certainly not because they supported either Israel OR Palestine, and I do feel sympathy for those that were her family or close friends.

I will be satisfied that her vicious, hateful voice has finally been silenced, though. She did women in comedy (and in general) absolutely no favors with her caustic, misogynistic 'humor'.

didnt see anybody wanting her to die but i saw a lot of unsympathetic sentiments after her death, and it wasnt just because she said palestinians deserved to die. she's done and said a lot of terrible things, and i dont see people celebrating her death more than i see people just not extending their condolences, and i dont think that's wrong, all things considered.

This. Joan Rivers said a lot of shitty things, but it's fucking disgusting the way people are getting excited about her death. You don't have to mourn her or be upset, and she definitely shouldn't get a pass for the things she said just because she's died, but dancing on her grave is in poor taste. It gets worse when you see that a lot of the same people doing this take/took issue with her flippant comments after various other celebrity deaths.

Also? Like it or not, she did a lot to advance women in comedy, and she IS considered a feminist icon by a lot of people. That doesn't just go away because she said pro-Israel or anti-Palestine things.
