Play doctor, F!S

creating a comment under the cut for medical stuff

it's not that bad but hey

Re: Play doctor, F!S

OKAY F!S i need your totally amateur opinion on this

at the beginning of last week, i tripped on a twig (yes, it made for some good comedy) and got a cut on my foot. i just continued on and thought: "what the hell, it'll be fine."

the following day my foot started to hurt. so i figured maybe some dirt got in there, so i put some ointment on it and a bandaid. all good!

but then my foot started to feel weird. it hurt to touch. now my leg hurts, too. it's hurt for the past three days. it's a similar feeling to when you get pins and needles in your leg, only it doesn't go away. now it's really starting to annoy me. i find it hard to walk and drive and it's difficult to sleep at night.

am i going to die? y/n?

See a freaking doctor

See a doctor or go to an Urgent Care if there's one nearby. It could be infected and you don't want to get blood poisoning.

yes, but only after having the leg amputated and enduring a couple of weeks of agony. unless tetanus kills you first.

It sounds like an infection or something. Are the veins around the wound darker? Is it red, or gooey, or pussy? Have you cleaned it since you bandaged it up? If your whole leg is hurting to the point that it's inconveniencing you to that degree, you should consider getting it looked at.

Does the cut look/feel infected (red, angry edges, maybe warm to the touch, possibly a throbbing feeling)? If not, then I would guess your leg issue is unrelated, at least to the cut itself. It might be related to the tripping incident, though. Also, if you get dirt in a cut, you need to wash it out, not just put ointment on it.

Short version: you might.

You might also lose your leg. Gangrene is a thing.

Also, not kidding: have you had your tetanus shots? Because if not, that's also an option.

My mom had an infection like that, though, and when she finally hauled her ass to the ER the doc said she's have lost her leg if she'd waited a day longer.

In other words: SEE.A.DOCTOR.

See a doctor. Skip the ER. Urgent Care is cheaper if you don't have insurance and are in the US and you will get the same treatment. Less than a hundred bucks versus a few thousand.

But go to the doctor!

Yes, you are going to die. We all are.

But probably not from this. Sounds like you've got an infection of some sort, so go to the ER and get some antibiotics.

Re: Play doctor, F!S

(Anonymous) 2014-11-04 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe. This sounds like an infection that is spreading and it could be really serious. Seconding everyone else who said go to a real doctor, literally as soon as you can.

Re: Play doctor, F!S

(Anonymous) 2014-11-04 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
Adding my vote to see a doctor NOW. ER if you can't see your regular doctor. Infections are nothing to play around with, and you do not want to wait any longer than you absolutely have to. Tetanus, gangrene... that is some nasty shit you're dealing with.

Yes. You are going to die and come back as a Walking Dead Zombie.

So,

I have tendinitis in my feet. It comes and goes, but since my commute is so much longer this year it has gotten worse. And I can't afford physical therapy right now. So any suggestions for stretches or whatnot I can do or anything I can do to stop making it worse would be awesome.

Re: Play doctor, F!S

(Anonymous) 2014-11-04 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
NOT stretches. Tendonitis should be treated with ice and anti-inflammatories.

Re: Play doctor, F!S

(Anonymous) 2014-11-04 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
Ibuprofen. Ibuprofen is the most miraculous drug ever invented. (It was recced to me by my GP for unrelated issues, and it made my arthritis seem like it didn't even exist). Naproxen, if it's too far gone for ibuprofen.

As someone with chronic tendinitis in my feet myself the best advice I can offer you is to stretch your foot back a lot. Don't just stand on a step and press your toes against the top while your heels sink below -- that's a good intensive exercise, but you can't do it all the time. I've gotten in the habit of pulling my foot back regularly, or propping them against my desk. The number one thing you should do though is make sure you do not sleep on your stomach or half-side in a manner that your foot is flattened out with the top of your foot against the mattress. That's a good way to make your problem worse; I used to sleep in that position for years (it's comfy!) but now I sleep entirely on my side.

I have been really tired and thirsty for the past 5-6 days. Been drinking plenty of water but doesn't seem to help.

It's getting to be winter time (unless you're in Australia or something), so all the dry air that comes from winter/indoor heating could make you more thirsty.

If you're tired and such, make sure you're getting enough iron in your diet.

Having said that, this shit sometimes comes in cycles. Check your diet/etc, and then give it a while. I know the anon above me mentioned diabetes, but it doesn't just come on right away, and all the symptoms of diabetes (including this) are symptoms of a large number of other things, so check all those first. Obviously consider it, but if this is the only symptom and it's not an ongoing pattern, consider other things as well.

Could you just be coming down with something? 5-6 days is less than the incubation period for some things.

I am always severely dehydrated all the time. Like you can pinch my skin and it sticks to the shape. My fingertips look like prunes. I drink water all the time. At least a gallon a day but it's never enough. And thing is, I don't pee much. Maybe twice a day.

What is wrong with me?

And I checked for diabetes and no. Don't have it.

Lately, it seems that my skin/complexion has been dryer and worse than usual. Also, I have more zits and blackheads, despite the skin feeling dryer. Maybe since...before this summer?

The only thing that I can think of is I've lost weigh, but I don't see how it would be connected.
