There's a reunion?

Now I feel like a bad fan. :p

Oh my god, it's set in Wyoming? /lives in Wyoming and has her entire life

I wonder how many things are actually based in real-life Wyoming, and how many are based on Wyoming stereotypes. Please count the cowboys for me, OP.

Eh, I think that's fair. It's just such an iconic outfit to me. Get the details right!

(Anonymous) 2014-11-12 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
Not being a fan in the same way as other people in no way makes you a bad fan.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-12 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
Thank goddness that cosplayer is wearing dark clothes and has red hair because otherwise she would blend perfectly with the background. Like a flounder or a chameleon. In fact, for a second there I missed her legs.

It always sucks when one pairing overshadows all other pairings (and gen). Looking at you Teen Wolf and Welcome to Night Vale. :

To be fair, while I love the world, I was never really in the fandom. The reason is because I only got into it in my first year of college, and I sort of expected the fanbase to be much younger than me than average. Also, much of my fandom involvement is fic-based, and I don't really "ship" people in Harry Potter so much, except maybe Fleur and Bill a little.

I later found out some part of the fandom can be shitty and I never regretted not getting in. I fel the sme about A:TLA, really - loved the canon, don't feel the need for much fandom participation.

I feel the same way.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-12 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
Better hair (he looks better as a redhead) and a classic English cut, black suit. Yeah, his wax twin does look better.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-12 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
.... how does anyone think those weird, crusty, reptile-looking creatures are SEXY? I can see thinking they're cool from the picture, but I don't want to fuck lizards.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-12 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
In regards to envying people who can draw, the answer is the same as how do you get to Carnegie Hall?

Yeah, and I don't see it as slut-shaming, but as acknowledging what the character would feel comfortable in. There's nothing wrong with short skirts, but they're not for everyone.

Shows that changed how you see certain tropes

[personal profile] aboutelle 2014-11-12 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
What the title says. Do you have certain tropes that just don’t work for you anymore since you’ve seen a show that used them or averted them?

For example: Orphan Black completely ruined all tropes about clones for me. Like instant cloning, where the clone is somehow the same age as the one being cloned and shares all their memories, or armies of clones all acting like mindless robots and not real people.

So the poll's getting pushed back to Saturday because of a lack of recs! But in the meantime, here's the google doc. Send us any recs you have!

No, you couldn't. Stop being a fucking idiot.

The facial structure is different, too. The real Cumberbatch has more pronounced cheekbones.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-12 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
Skirts were a different length back then. You are making a fair criticism, but I also understand why the cosplayer changed the length to some thing more modern.

It's not really a slut thing, either way.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-12 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
I wish there was some Connor/Aiden fic. So I know how you feel.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-12 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
Why are you bringing Moffat into this discussion? Jack is RTD's character, not Moffat's.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-12 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
Well, Scully's suits were all tailored, and cosplayers are probably putting together her outfits from retail stores. It's amazing how hard it can be to find an over-the-knee pencil skirt from an affordable source when it's not en vogue (and I consider "expensive" to start at Urban Outfitters).

For example, no matter what the season, if I walk into Forever 21 looking for a dress, and find one that fits perfectly, it will always be too short and almost always have a neck that plunges way too far.

Look they are "cool" because they are great villains. They are probably the most interesting villains in all of Star Trek canon. Even the "good ones" of them like Garek, you can't trust as far as you can throw him. And that's what people gravitate toward. They are fascinating to watch. You never know where you stand with them. They can call you friend to your face, charm you, say I love you, all the while they are about to stab you in the back with a knife. Literally and figuratively.

They are my favorite aliens in Star Trek for this very reason. They are a puzzle on legs.
