You see, I'm an up and coming iconist who LOVES using fanart without crediting. I love those games. They're hard as hell, but they're fun. (I never did beat the DS one though, the worm-like GUILT was too hard)
Also, Valerie is hot and I want to ~~bang her~~ cosplay her someday. :D

I use fanart in icons. Fanart I found from ~*4chan*~. But you know the problem with it? Most of them are reposts of reposts of reposts so after a while, the source gets lost and no one knows anymore after so long. (Seriously, the art I end up using? Four or five years old) But you know the secret? I don't post them in icon communities. I make them for myself, and hey, if someone else wants to use it, by all means.

And, as far as icon artists demanding credit? uuuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhhh I don't? I think it'd be nice if they did so people can know where the icon came from and see what else there is, but I'm not going to throw a hissy fit if they don't.

OH HAY you know something else? I post my fanart on the interweb. And, seriously, if someone actually finds the stuff and likes it enough to make graphics from it, then that's pretty awesome. I would probably try to contact them to find out what they liked about the image, but other than that, I don't really care.

14. I do too. I played Vagrant Story long before 12 came out, and I couldn't find words to describe how important the game was; to me, and to gaming in general. I wanted the whole world to play it. Then 12 came out as its prequel. 12 is the best Final Fantasy, and not just that, but a game so real and made with so much passion that I still haven't been able to tell anyone just how much I love it. And, the fandom is great as well, full of people who have memorized the entire Bestiary, played through Vagrant Story and Tactics, and actually make an effort to sound like the characters. It's impossible to describe how important it is to have a fandom talking about "a tuft of Phoenix Down" and "the Moogle living in ___ named ___". The game designers did everything they could to revolutionize the series and they succeeded. I haven't seen a Final Fantasy this good since FF3j (for NES) and 12 surpasses it on every possible level.

So, yeah, you're not alone.

I really DON'T think that Kaoru is an Uke. i think the twins have a complex relaitonship. i think their relationship is based more on an equal footing and wouldn't be at all surprised if they switch every other.

I agree with you, and I seriously can't understand why people just can't try to be nice.
I don't think that "idiot"/"cry moar" etc etc is the RIGHT answer if someone wants to avoid wank?
Of course, I do understand that when someone is attacked (and this is not the case, mind you) the urge to rely on sarcasm and defend yourself is huge, but seriously, don't complain about the wank when it's your reply that cause it.

I don't like icons with fanarts, which is why I don't make them and I don't use them. Of course I do agree with the fact everyone is free to do what they want (use fanart, for example) but this and "artists would be happy to know they're work is appreciated enough to make something out of it" is something VERY different.
True, that would be the case... if someone actually mentioned the author's name. Without the right credit it's like not acknowledging the fact there IS an artist.
I wouldn't be happy to know my works are used for icons, signatures, layout and the likes unless my name was mentioned somewhere. I don't even think it's something SO strange to pretend a credit, in fact, I can't see why people don't get the point.
Wouldn't you get upset if someone used one of your icons (not bases, mind you) for... making their own icons? Also, a lot of icon artist (and I'm one, a crappy one sure, too) get upset if someone forgets to credit them, and it is right, of course, but it's a bit strange when they claim an artist should just be happy if someone is using their works for icons?

Of course this comment was not to cause wank nor to teach a lesson to anyone (I still stick by the "live and let people live", or whatever that old saying is in english), I just wanted to explain a point, which I believe was the same of the secret poster.

Almost forgot. I'm sure a lot of people don't care because they CAN'T read japanese (I can't either, but there is a certain banner, the one of the online fanart protection, that suggest it...), but MOST of the japanese artist don't want their art to be reused elsewhere. And it's not exactly nice to think "well, they're japanese, they'll never found out" (which is not even the case, I guess people who says it have no idea of how many fanart sites were actually closed)

25. Fanart and fanfiction is a complicated thing. I think it's silly to jump in making arguments like fanartist "legally owning" something, because fandom is the biggest legal gray area on the planet. Of course, they are the creator, and in that sense "own" the picture, but if you try to bring in legalese like some people here did, then it gets needlessly complicated.

What I think should be done, if you really want to make a fanart icon but for some reason can't get a hold of the artist, is to give credit. "X made this, Y is their website. If you do not want me to use this icon, please tell me and I'll take it down." Yes, I know this comment will probably be attacked for "omgggg how are they supposed to knoooooow" and whatnot. But it's a matter of courtesy. Just showing that you mean no harm and are willing to pull the icon down can get you a long way. Even if the fanartist never finds out about you, it's just common courtesy to credit the original source. Honestly, "I FOUND THIS SOMEWHERE LOL" is so yesterday.

48. Oh please. Fantardic assumptions like "seme" and "uke" make me want to cry. Character B liking it in the ass from Character A does not make Character A strong, cool, better or in-control of the relationship. Likewise, Character B is not weaker, helpless, crying and blushing because of this. A gentle, kind character or cute/femme looks don't make someone a bottom in bed, either. I wish people would get this idiotic assumption out of their heads that gentleness is weak and people who like it up the ass are weak. It gets so tiring to hear "OMG X IS SUCH A CUTE UKE" or "OMG HOW CAN YOU WRITE Y TOPPING THAT'S SO SICK HE'S AN UKE".

It's all about respect. Leaving aside all the arguments about who owns what and where permission should be sought and all that, what happened to a little common courtesy and respect? There have to be all these convoluted rules about it now? About how and when and where you should extend courtesy and when you can tell someone to fuck off you'll do as you please because it's not legal?

Where the heck are you looking, because you can find just as large of a fanbase for FFXII as any other FF game.

Personally, the game is so very mediorc to me that I skipped a lot of the sidequests because I wanted to be done with the game. And I've played every FF game as well, including FFT (<3 this game so much!) and FFTA, and a bit of FFXI. Vaan is about as interesting as dried toast, he's probably one of the worst FF main characters because he simply does nothing to the story. He had very few moments where I thought he would actually, you know, be interesting, but... nothing.

And don't use the arguement for FFX, 'Well, Yuna is the MC of there!' because Tidus at least contributes to the story. Vaan does... nearly nothing.

And the game runs like FFXI offline. Even my sister, who played FFXI obsessively, said so and while I didn't play FFXI nearly as much as her (I mainly played WoW), it did feel a lot like the battle system in the game. If I wanted to grind, I could hop onto WoW and do it there.

The only thing I can say is that the game is beautiful and I liked the track as much as I liked FFVI's. But then again, so was Valkyrie Profile 2, and that not only was a hard game, but the characters weren't as dull as dirt. The plot could've been interesting, but it suffered from dry dull characters. Maybe only half of them were remotely interesting among the main cast, you could toss Vaan and Penelo out and not realize they were missing.

No, really. As long as you can continue to tell the difference between what is reality and what is the doll-fantasy that many people create, you'll be fine. I've never had any issue with it myself, but I suppose that it may be because I've never created characters for my dolls, and to me they are just very beautiful objects.

Honestly? That's what I think of all anime.

But unlike with original art, since you can't sell fanart (and if you do GO DIE NOW kthx) you aren't losing the ability to sell it. I do credits on demand and people sometimes get annoyed; if people want it enough to click they want it enough to ask in my experience, and so if they don't, they wouldn't click anyway. Also, do we credit *offical* art? And don't tell me that isn't the same; it's just as much art as anything else, and art that they could potentially sell to boot!
