I've change my mind. Lets just to a liveaction Disney's Hunchback and let Rickman play Frollo.

Okay so what's with all the Slutty Todd secrets? That movie SUCKED.

And holyshitJohnnyDepponlyhasoneEnglishaccent. FAIL. I wanted to KICK HIM IN THE CROTCH after such a shoddy performance. He slipped back and forth between an uninspired, grunting near-Cockney accent and his usual Jack Sparrow accent so often I forgot whom he was playing. I thought Jack went mad or something.

Also, Alan Rickman singing = NO.

1. I kind of agree with you.

3. lol.

25. It always makes me laugh when I see icon makers using uncredited fanart in their icons and then screaming about how no one had better dare to use their icons without credit.

42. If fangirls piss you off, just de-friend them. But didn't you know that they were fangirls before you friended them?

48. Seme and uke stereotypes are so tiresome. Why do so many people cling to them so much? I just don't get it. Preferences for certain characters in certain positions is fine, but the rabidness over yaoi stereotypes is just annoying.

You do not have to keep secrets from us. That right there? Nobody would have killed and cooked you into stew or anything like that.

We're a very nice, cuddly fandom. You don't need to keep little secrets like that.

Honest.

Jesus Christ on a crutch@all the comments re: my secret. So, here's a news flash:

I did not go into the movie expecting the stage version. I went in expecting a movie that was based on a musical. I got that. I went in expecting the actors to make me believe they were the characters they were portraying.

And thus is where my disappointment lies.

Yes, Burton works well with Johnny and Helena, but enough already. Johnny is capable of singing. He just didn't seem assed to do it, though. Same with Helena... although I guess if you're the director's domestic partner you can get away with a lot. But they both can do better, and they didn't. I couldn't even enjoy Alan Rickman, whom I fucking adore, because the leads should set the tone and they just didn't.

Johnny, to me, sounded like Jack Sparrow, and with the over-goth look Burton used, he looked a hell of a lot like Edward. So, yeah, disappointed in a good bit but still did enjoy it for what it was: $4 and the price of popcorn for a morning viewing, and no plans to pick it up when it hits DVD.

I mean, fuck it all, people, this is F_S, not Wank-On-The-Posters comm. You can go to JournelFen and get that on Fandom_Wank if you like though....

Re: #4 OP

Seconded six ways from Sunday.

Also, in regards to: "... Johnny is capable of singing. He just didn't seem assed to do it, though..." You're absolutely right. (http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20155516_20155530_20155983_2,00.html)

Specifically: "'I was talking to people and they were saying, Well, of course you're going to get a singing teacher,'' he says. ''And I said, 'Oh, yeah-yeah! Of course I will. Yeah.' '' Instead, Depp ran as far from formal instruction as he could. ''I just didn't see the character developing with me doing scales in front of a piano and a vocal teacher going, 'No, no — bring it up from the bollocks,' '' he says. ''That kind of thing would have been a disaster. I would still be rehearsing right now. Or I'd have been fired.''"

So. Yeah. I absolutely couldn't agree with you more on EVERYTHING you said. Good movie, good adaptation in general, all of which is ruined by the two main characters blowing.

3. I love you a lot for this.

11. holy shit, I swear I'm almost halfway through Geass and I STILL have to correct myself all the time in conversation when I call Suzaku Syaoran. XD (also, that would be BLAZING HOT.)

12. That is a damn good playlist you've got there. And yeah, I'm guilty too, I have [livejournal.com profile] fst to thank for getting me into a lot of awesome music.

13. TRUE FACTS. God, I love that movie.

28. ...m-my poor childhood. D: D: D: (oh god now i'm thinking about it DO NOT WAAAAAANT)

31. FUCKING SIGNED. I hate that art style so much, ugh. I seriously thought it was crappy amateur fanart at first, and I was confused as to why the coloring was so detailed and fairly well-done if the person just didn't know how to draw a fucking FACE, And then I found out people actually find this stuff ATTRACTIVE, and I was even more confused.

32. omg another El Dorado secret <3

25. I'll admit to using fanart in my icons sometimes (mostly coloured doujin pages)... but only for my personal use. Seeing someone say "LOL, IDK WHO MADE THE ART BUT HERE, EVERYONE TAKE THIS ICON" kind of bothers me. :/

30. I AGREE WITH THIS SECRET SO VERY MUCH. It seems like Archer/Rin is the only pairing in the fandom. Then again, I think Archer's kind of overrated anyway. Oooh, he can make lots of swords. Whoop-de-do.

31. I'm not the only one? HAET THE GIANT EYES.

36. From what I can tell, 75% of the people in those games dress like idiots. (Everything I know about Phoenix Wright I learned from f!s.)

25

[identity profile] talyafera.livejournal.com 2008-01-07 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
Fanart is meant to be enjoyed. I'm thrilled every time I see my art on 4chan. It's all about sharing something we love. <3 /hippie

That said, if you were to skim the icon communities, take a bunch of icons and alter them, then post them up elsewhere without crediting, all the icon makers telling you you're making too big a deal over little 100x100 squares would probably shit bricks over their work being disrespected.

A novice is someone training to be a master. A master is someone who knows he will always be a novice.

I struggle with the same thing in theater. With my normal acting troops, I'm advanced, but outside of it I still have a long, long way to go. A lot of the time, I try to stay in my bubble where I am looked up to, but that is no way to grow and develop yourself.
It will be scary at first, but it's worth it. :)

25. I would have to disagree! Now, I can't draw for shit, which apparently means my opinion on the matter is invalid, and yet here I go anyway. If you upload something to the internet, you do it with full knowledge that you now have no control over what happens to it. You can ask for credit, and maybe you deserve credit, but if you can't handle NOT being credited, it's silly to upload your fanart to the internet. Keep it in your notebook and show it to your friends. If I could draw, which I think my icon clearly demonstrates I can not, I would think it was awesome to have someone use my art to icon from.

#25

[identity profile] militarypenguin.livejournal.com 2008-01-07 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
My problem with using fanart without credit is less about the issue of "stealing/altering" and more about the frustration of wanting a link to the original source so I can check out the rest of the artist's work.

10

[identity profile] slylilgoblin.livejournal.com 2008-01-07 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
10. I've never done that, because I've never been able to decide if I've actually wanted it to happen. NOT because I don't think it would. Oh man. So you are not alone XDD

[identity profile] asdhjfbciwu3487.livejournal.com 2008-01-07 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
25. My only issue with the whole debate is the fact that so many icon makers DEMAND credit when they don't give credit themselves.

If I tried to take some fanart icons and didn't bother to credit the icon maker, I bet they wouldn't react too kindly considering how srsbusiness some people are about it.

If you're not going to credit, don't expect credit in return.

(Although, this is different if the artist doesn't care, but it's not the same for every artist.)

6. Two words come to mind: "entitled" and "needy." No, make that three - there's "whiny," too.

You're the kind of person that makes me wish LJ would use the term "readers" instead of "friends." I've dealt with people like you in the past, and guess what? You're really fucking annoying.

I used to be just like the person you've described. I was still new to LJ then, and thought it would be rude not to friend people back when they friended me. Before long I had (what I consider to be) a big friends list.

There was no way to read everyone's entries unless I wanted to spend hours out of every day online. Plus, a lot of my new "frends" just weren't very interesting. A lot of them were boring, in fact. We shared the same fandom, but that was it, and usually they didn't even post anything worth reading about fandom. Then there were those who were just plain crazy, stupid, annoying or illiterate.

The ended up skimming my friends list, only pausing to read the most interesting stuff, which was usually posted by the same small group (maybe 10-15 people). Eventually I created a reading filter for just them, plus my favorite communities (the A-list), and most of the time that was all I bothered to read. On most days, I never got beyond the A-list filter because I have a life and I don't spend it all on LJ.

If she's not commenting on your posts, it's probably because your posts just aren't interesting enough to comment on. Maybe you just turn her off - that you're so desperate for validation from an popular, talented online acquaintance, and so bitter that you're not getting it suggests that you don't have much of a life. I'd back away slowly, too.

Even if her friends list is small, suggesting that she has an obligation to comment on your posts because *you* manage to reply to everybody on your friends list is bullshit. As for her resolution, notice that it's to get to know SOME of her friends list better, not everyone.

If you were cool and intersting, she'd already like you and comment on your posts. You're not, and that's not her fault. Get the fuck over yourself.

not the op

(Anonymous) 2008-01-07 09:36 am (UTC)(link)
There's a very simple solution to this. Defriend people if you don't like reading their journal.

Yes, you have a valid point that not everyone has time or that not everyone shares the same fandoms, etc. However, the truth of it is that many people assume that a mutual friending means mutual acknowledgment of posts. After all, everyone posting on LJ does it to get some sort of attention, otherwise they wouldn't be public posts at all.

If a lot of people that you don't like reading about only have you friended for your fandom content? Keep it unlocked or in a separate journal. It's not hard to do.

I realize that our views conflicting is based on preference, but I think it's unfair to keep leading people on when you have no interest in reading their entries at all. Unfriending them when it gets to the point that they're boring is a lot less rude than that.
