28. I concur. My brother is addicted to WoW. Its really sad to see him sitting at my dining room table for 10-12 hours (He's turning 24 this March). He's not abusive towards my family, but he doesn't have a job and refuses to get one. And he doesn't clean up after himself (Its fucking gross).

28. My brother dropped out of school and, at the age of 22, has never had a job because of some online game (not WoW, but something apparently just as addicting). He goes for weeks not leaving the house (or the basement, really) because he's so consumed with this game. I honest to god don't understand what would make someone do that. It's a freakin' GAME. And this is coming from someone with a terribly addictive personality. =/

But that being said, I'm sure that the majority of gamers aren't ruled by their games. Like anything else, we just hear more about the extreme cases.

25. I never really latched onto the Star Wars movies like most of the population did, but I absolutely love that movie. I could watch the adventures of Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan over and over again.

19 - Okay, I know a guy who legally changed his name to "Ferret". You are probably not a bad person just because you changed your name to something you'd rather be called.

28 - I've discovered that obsession with that particular game is more a byproduct of a bigger issue. But it lends itself to putting a magnifying glass over those issues.

I think I agree. I'm sure the game can't be blamed entirely, but just like any other catalyst in an addiction, it certainly factors it. When my best friend of three years and I saw each other again for the first time after a year apart, he refused to go out with me, stayed up until 5 every morning in our living room playing the damn thing all through winter break, grumbled at me when I asked him to get off the computer for a minute so we could talk, and actually yelled at my mother when she called him out of his room at dinnertime -- and this used to be the sweetest boy in the world. I saw a problem.

He's gotten a lot better about it, but that definitely had the potentials to go bad places. So yeah, I'm glad for all the non-addict players, but WoW is really something else -- I've never seen any other virtual media have that effect on a person before.

I really hate to say this: but I think I can relate to your friend. I just finished S1 & 2, and if my friend was thinking about watching it- I'd fangirl in her face too.

I know its easy for me to say this, but give this show another shot. My somewhat of annoying cousin persuaded me into buying the first season, and it is a little slow and almost mediocre in the beginning (for me, at least), but it definitely picks up, and then you are just flat out sucked into the show. I hope you can watch enough to just forget about your annoying friend and enjoy the show. :)

15. INORITE!? Naruto is an awesome series but the thought of the time I saw a grown boy-man wearing a forehead protector at the library still makes me cringe.

27. Damn right, we do. It's possibly because we know it's never gonna happen and we're okay with that. *shrug*

28. I knew a guy who went into debt (tens of thousands of dollars) because of games like WoW. It's kind of ridiculous but is such a real problem.

I kind of envy their courage to ghetto cosplay. I used to have a Haruhi headband that I wore in public with my street clothes until it snapped in two one day. Ghetto cosplay is more fun in public than at cons, cause you're supposed to do well at cons; in your everyday life, it's just something fun to do and you don't have to look anything like a specific character.

Still, n00bs are scary.
