I know exactly what you mean! The last few years I've been using my free time reading fan fiction instead of reading actual books. My bookcase is overflowing with books that I have just not made the time to start reading, and on the rare occasion that I actually read a book I find myself wondering if said book has an active fandom!

3. My real life friends make fun of my fandoms. And the few times I've had real life friends also in fandom, they were batshit insane and sometimes physically attacked me. BAD TIMES.

18. The only reason I liked that he was in Oracle of Ages was that you got to punch his balloon him in the face while riding around in the pouch of a gender-confused kangaroo.

I made an AU-verse game of it set in the GG world itself, but it didn't really take off. Not many people are familiar with the fandom or series to comfortably AU other characters into it too, so a game with that would be awesome as well. Go go GG!

I just feel like I would be comfortable in one. I've never really done LJ-RPs, mostly keeping to I.M, so I'd want to try it out, but the multifandom ones seem so chaotic.

4 - After hearing the dub, I'm almost inclined to agree. The art may be ugly as sin, but I rarely laugh so hard during a show these days.

10 - AHHH BRI-CHAN~ XD I swear, she could get me to ship just about anything, I LOVE her art style!

27 - ugh god. Sadly, I did not realize Avatar-fandom was THIS wanky. I mean, I knew it came close, but cripes...then again, I stay in my own little Zuko/Song corner where few people come to bother us and plenty of curious folks step in and decide they love us. XD It makes me glad I find almost all the canon ships BORING AS SIN.

39 - I am so glad I dropped out of the Inuyasha fandom early. Of course, the fanbrats made it easy--I'll take the intellectually stimulating Kikaider over Inuyasha anyday. =p Really, the idea of the story was pretty novel at first, but then she kept going on and on AND ON AND ON with it--Inuyasha is forever wibbling between two girls, neither of which are particularly intersting, IMHO; Naraku NEVER dies, there's always more demon-spawn anyway--hell, I've even started to hate how it looks, because, really, when you look at it, the only difference in some of the characters is the hair-style!

Screw you, Takahashi--I will never touch your shit again, lest it continue on for OVER TEN YEARS WITHOUT GOING ANYWHERE.

Re: 27

[identity profile] gratuity.livejournal.com 2008-01-22 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
You chose wisely when they were handing out ships. You've managed to avoid all the wanky ones. (Agreed on all the canon ships being so painfully boring. Although I do enjoy shipping Sokka with THE WORLD. He's cute that way.)

what the hell, I feel like being talkative.

[identity profile] hopelikefever.livejournal.com 2008-01-22 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
12. Are they Fuuma and Kamui? In speedos? I think I just threw up a bit. (But it was bad to use a CLAMP picture in that sort of secret, since they kind of play into those stereotypes anyway.)

18. Yeah, I pretty much agree. Although, I do admit that I love to frighten my friends with tales of his horrifying catchphrase. TINGLE KOOLOO LIM-PAH! Ah, I hated Majora's Mask...

20. I'd be happy if they stayed how they are now. Honestly, this is as good as canon gets, for them. No more bullshit. Just how I like it. :)

25. Hellz yeah, Obi-Wan/Qui-Gon. Ewan McGregor looked so much better before he grew that bush of a beard. I liked Episode 1 as well, though. Jar Jar was my favorite. :'( I was eleven, but still.

28. Online games in general do that. WoW is just targeted because it's one of the bigger offenders. I know I used to play FFXI constantly when I was on summer vacation in high school. There was that one guy that died from exhaustion playing EverQuest. I know people who are obsessive about RO. =/ It's more than just WoW. But honestly, I don't know how people can play so much on a game that essentially has no ending. I can't subscribe to online games for more than a month at a time anymore.

34. Man, I absolutely love blood elves, especially the males. They're so vain, and they make fun of themselves. It makes me sad that there are so many players that give them a bad wrap. =/

39. Then stop. I understand peer pressure and all that, but there's a way of saying that you dislike characters without saying that you hate them and everyone who loves them.

40. Man, what really gets me about a lot of fans is that they bitch about the new names. I don't remember half of the name-bitching from game 2 or three as we've gotten from game 4. The names make sense. The translators aren't the type to just pull stuff out of their ass for absolutely no reason.

41. I feel your pain. I used to read books all the time as a freshman, but as I got more into anime, I stopped reading regular books and opted for comic books instead. The last 'real' book I read was Howl's Moving Castle last year, and... well, you can guess how I got into that one. I feel bad for not being more inclined to read literature, but well... I like what I like! And that's all you can say.

Me too! I used to read like... during breakfast, walking to school, during class, at lunch, walking home, and at home. These days I can't even get through the latest Harry Potter book and I have to force myself to read stuff for school.

Has becoming an anime fan killed my brain or something? I just want to read fanfiction and comics. Gawd, I'm so lowbrow. -.-;;

1. Aww :)

21. It's worth it, I promise D: If you like that sort of show, I mean. Personally, I'm staying away from most of the fandom, if I can. I hear it's full of just the sort of crazy you describe (and worse).

35. You sound a little arrogant (also, who would pay real money for fanarts? o.o), but I can't dislike you, because goshdarnit that guy has so few fans, I feel we should band together. Or something. Why is his eye blue in that picture?

36. THE PAIN! oh, ♥ And I don't even like bees. (I'm allergic, okay?)

35~

(Anonymous) 2008-01-22 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
Ahaha, I was pretty incoherent when I wrote that as I am now. jhsdffbgrjrgh. and it really dose sound kind of jerky... [ It was suppose to be more of a BAWWWWWW!111 because after like, 8 years of being in the fandom, and all you find is ten million pieces of Kaiba/Jou or Y!Yuugi, one dose get somewhat depressed... ] But if not 90% of it, it's a damn high number. [ Like, on the rare occasions that a Pegasus thread pops up on 4/7chan, the thread maybe gets 10 posts, and it's all stuff I've instigated/commissioned... ]

And I seriously have no idea ether, I just... enjoy commissioning people, and giving good artists some incentive to keep drawing. I can't count the times I've had the person I was commissioning tell me that they were finally able to prove to their parent/teacher/grandparents that drawing is not pointless, and people do like what they create, even enough to pay money for some stuff.

[ ....That sounds really, really creepy if you take it with the 'how do i commissioned porn, lol?' part... .3.; ]

And his eye is blue because Kazuki Takahashi is colorblind or something, and cannot keep his character's eye/hair colors consistent. Ever. ...Also, blue just went well with the fact that he looks kinda corpse-tastic on the reprint manga covers. Ahaha... ]

Long post was loooonnngggg. .3.;

Except I disagree with the fundamental nature of the secret (duh, obviously). People can love the game all they want, but localization or not doesn't change the MAJOR PLOT POINTS that a lot of people really find stupid.

I played GS3 in Japanese with a friend translating, and I absolutely loved it. I knew I was going to love it based on the plot and everything I knew. And... I was right.

Now with virtually the same situation with GS4, knowing the plot points and te character developments.... I'm pretty sure I'm not going to like it. And the Japanese didn't, either (well, a lot of them).

Sure, you can love the game if you want, that's your choice and more power to you. But... the secret just doesn't make sense.

I can't bring myself to read real books anymore. I never really read them very much but I certainly did more when I was younger. I just don't have the attention span for it. It's easier for me to read fanfiction and manga than it is to read a real book because fanfiction, I can step away from and come back to quickly, but I put a book down and I just don't feel motivated to pick it back up, even if I really like the book. Manga is easy to read because it's pictures. ._.
It's kind of upsetting because there are so many good books out there, so many that look so fantastic, and I just can't pay attention long enough to read it and care.

Re: 41

[identity profile] relmneiko.livejournal.com 2008-01-22 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
Me too. I've been chalking it up to attention span thus far, but now I'm starting to wonder if the reason I'd rather read fanfiction than an actual book is because you know what a fic is going to hand you X pairing, Y premise. With a book you have to take the trouble to get to know new characters and even if you tell yourself "Yeah, I know I'd like this book because the author is awesome" it still falls short of "But this pairing that I know I like done by this fic author I know I like".

And comics have always been easy on the eyes and brain. :P

holy crap, I've never seen three Jrock-related secrets in one fandom!secrets post before.

19. I'm dying to know to what you changed your name. Glad you clarified that it's NOT hyde, as I'm sure that would be most people's first guess, haha. Tetsu? Ken? Yukihiro? (as if, no one loves yukihiro. Except meeeee, I love him. ._. But then again, I ♥ them all.)

too big: ... I haven't seen a genuinely "funny" post there in a while though somehow I am still a member. It seems like there used to be funny things, but I'm not sure if it used to be funny and now it's not, or if there never was anything funny there at all and I grew to realize it. It's pretty hard to create generally-recognized-as-funny "j-rock humor" beyond one's own circle of friends, one's own in-jokes and one's shared perceptions of J-rock musicians' personae anyway. It's not as though pasted-on, tired /b/ memes or LOLcat speak makes a picture instantly funny, jrock or not, and it seems like that's all people there ever try these days. Or IM logs that are, again, FILLED WITH IN-JOKES. Quotes can be funny, certainly,and I post them in my personal LJ all the time, but not when it's about you and your friend's "crack AU rp fanfic" in a community where no one knows wtf you're talking about or whatever ... um... damn, when did I start ranting?? I need sleep. o__o;;

28. I've seen it ruin and enrich lives. I'll definitely agree on the ruin part, but my roommate and live-in boyfriend were both met through the game 3 years ago C:

44. Agreed hard, anon! Nothing says selfish faster than a low share ratio. (And no, I don't care about slow internet speeds...if thats the case, seed after you're done instead of rushing to something else.)

For the record, I buy anime with my commission money, but sadly can only use the stuff that reaches my paypal account, which isn't the method of payment often enough :C

44 OP

(Anonymous) 2008-01-22 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, yes, yes. Isn't it only fair to help others get what you've gotten? If you think seeding makes your internet slow, you can throttle the number of connections and the upload rate. If it's inconvenient to seed because you're on 56K, why are you using bittorrent in the first place?

All in all, I sorta look down upon anyone who downloads a lot of anime and has a share ratio lower than one. (I think I'm sitting at around 3.5 right now. T3 + PeerGuardian = 1+TB uploaded)

[identity profile] dewdropinn.livejournal.com 2008-01-22 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
20. While I agree with you on the fact that I don't really see the KuroFay canon, wanking like this kind of paints fans who don't really like KuroFay in a bad light.

Ten bucks says this gets torn apart on [livejournal.com profile] clamp_rants ... >>

28. Two of my close friends have stopped hanging out with me because they would rather play this game. I wouldn't go so far as to say it "ruins lives," but it can be pretty bad when you don't know how to moderate yourself.
