Why does "aged well" matter?

Sometimes when people talk about shows or movies or whatever, they say "oh, this hasn't aged well" because old technology, references etc. clearly "date" it.

Am I the only one who likes a bit of dating? For instance, I love the huge cellphones on FRIENDS. And yes, I understand what they are. And it's not like my brain breaks if I'm watching a show from the 70's and a character uses a typewriter. I know what a typewriter is.

OTOH I do think sometimes societal beliefs age poorly - cellphones on FRIENDS are fine, but the gay jokes are a bit harder to take, even though the joke seems to mostly be on Ross's reaction. But I don't mind older technology and stuff.

Do you have a weirdly particular/specific trope/plot hate?

Nothing general like 'Gary Stu characters', but something more like 'I hate it when the narrative hand waves an MC being condescending to others' or other really specific things that gets on your nerve in canon.

Mine is, (and I've only seen this twice in fics) I hate it when one part of the ship decided to have a baby/adopt without consent from the other part of the ship, and makes an ultimatum that boils down to either they accept raising a child to be with the one the love or they leave.

Both times I saw this very specific plot, it enraged me to no end.

"good" rape scenes

I know the subject line sounds weird, but I mean rape scenes that are not gratuitous, meant to titillate, done for shock value, meant to give the victim's loved one character development rather than the victim herself/himself, or that kind of thing. You know, rape scenes that avoid the criticisms people usually have of them.

Tell me about an original character of yours!

BUT. Don't do it the normal way, like name age history strength weakness and all. Skip that. Instead can you give:

- Their main motivation.
- Their definition of "being a good person". (Follow-up, do they think they are good?)
- Something that no one would realize about them unless they know them really well.

He's kind of a mess, all fucked up with tubes and shit. Couldn't talk for all the modern medical science in his face, but despite heavy sedation he knew what was up and knew I was there. My aunt thinks he probably had a blood sugar blackout (he's diabetic) and hit his head on the kitchen counter or something.

MOAR X-Files (spoilers)

Finished Season 2! Man I forgot how long seasons were back in the day.

The Soft Light episode with Monk. Damn. That was sad as fuck.

I loved the line in the chicken episode where Scully goes, "I just came up with a sick theory." And Mulder is all, "Oooooh! Tell me more."

Ananszi is another excellent Mulder whump episode. And I am all about that. And all of the fallout from that was awesome. Scully fired! Mulder DEAD??!?!?! (no).

And the beginning of the season 3 opening is great so far. I love all of the Native America stuff. Though, the weird vision/dream coma is equal parts creepy and sad. I love the different poems that Deep Throat and Mulder's dad say.
