(Anonymous) 2015-12-20 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)Retro games cost just as much, plus we never even had a N64 or Gamecube or the older consoles. I think Playstation was the first "big" console sold in stores over here.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-21 12:00 am (UTC)(link)A good retro game and the newest ps4 game probably cost the same.
The only cheap games with a decent selection are probably old nintendo DS games or ps2 games.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-20 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)But I can't afford it and that doesn't seem likely to change anytime soon, so I have to accept it and keep trying other stuff until I find something I like as much as gaming.

For really old games there are emulators, and if you're interested in a game but don't have the cash or console you could always just watch a let's play. Not the same, I know, but it's better than not seeing it or experiencing it at all. (Plus...you could always play it later? Might ruin the 'surprise', but if the game is enjoyable then it'll probably be worth it.)

Right now I'm trying to save for a gaming PC(I saved $$$$$ 0,00 so far), because the only consoles I have are PS3 and the 3ds. The ps3 is on it's last legs and Nintendo is trying really hard to push for a new handheld. The companies are not kind to poor people like us, OP. :^(

(Anonymous) 2015-12-20 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)(I was shocked when I saw 80$ pricetag on a Ps4 game. It's not a price I want to pay for a pretty 12 hour long adventure...)

(Anonymous) 2015-12-20 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)It really sucks having a mac too. Mine was given to me as a gift, and it's a great computer, but my selection of games is very slim.
Also my ps3 is busted but my ps2 is still kicking. It's a good thing most of my favorite games are ps1 and ps2.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-21 12:55 am (UTC)(link)I also get great deals via bundling. Bundlestars.com, indiegala.com and humblebundle.com all have ridiculously good deals to look out for.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-21 04:28 am (UTC)(link)Steam have a lot of playable free demos. I think there are hundreds. I've gotten a lot of fun out of demos, sometimes even more than the full game.
If you have a phone, there's a whole world of free to pay games for that, as long as you don't make in app transactions. Luckily a lot of games can be played without paying as long as you're patient.
GOG often do free game giveaways, no purchase required. I've had three already this year. They also have a selection of totally free games, mostly retro point and click adventures.
Then there's browser games. Some of my favourite games of all time are free browser games. Try jayisgames for some great recommendations.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-21 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)Wait until everything goes on sale on PC and Steam whenever possible. I look at places like reddit.com/r/patientgamers where people post links to sales and such. It helps. But I feel you!
