FWIW I'm ace too and uninterested in reading about the sexual side of relationships. I've found plenty of shippy fic without sex or with easily skippable sex scenes.

Being asexual doesn't mean you can't ship characters sexually, or romantically, or any old way. Same way you don't have to be homosexual to have homosexual ships. What you're describing IS shipping, just not a sexual version, and plenty of fanworks exist of that nature. Domestic AUs are definitely a thing in a lot of fandoms, for example.

As someone who's only into fanfic for the porn I can tell you that there's LOTS of gen fic. It frustrates me to no end but I know many people enjoy it. I think you just happen to have fandom friends that are more into the sexual part of shipping. there probably are fandom spaces for people who don't like their ships sexy so I'd say go look for them

I know it can seem like shipping revolves solely around sex in most fandoms (and a lot of the time, it does), but you can ship people just as platonic friends or romantic partners

Yes, there will probably be other fans who say 'If they are together and so close, they must have sex eventually, or they're not a normal couple' or whatever, just like people do with real life asexuals, but there are tons of people who love reading about their OTPs just hanging out and doing normal things

It might just take a while to find them, is all

I understand how it may seem like shipping is all about sex because there are a lot of smutty PWPs and fics that devolve into nothing but sex, etc.

But there are a lot of shippy fics that have no sex at all. Fade to black, but if that's too close, there are fics that just don't mention it at all. Getting together fics often don't have it, they end with maybe a kiss or a date. Seriously, lots of simple cute fluff out there.

And if there isn't enough, do what I do when I get bored of the constant sex in some fics: scroll past it. It's highly unlikely you'll miss out on any other developments.

Hey, anon, I'm asexual too and I feel a LOT of what you feel too. What some people overhead aren't realizing is that while your wording may have not been clear, you really are being sincere about this, because in fandom sometimes more platonic aspects of ships aren't as popular/discussed as much as the sexual aspects are, and may make you feel invalid and insecure about seeing pairings 100% platonically.

To which I say, don't let fandom get you down! You can see relationships as platonic as you want. There are quite a few people like you and me out there in fandoms, and I have seen support for platonic aspects for ships among those people! Do what you want, anon, don't let your insecurities get you down. :)b

I don't understand. I am not ace but I don't enjoy the sex part of fandom. I love the cuddling, romance, and the more than friends bit but always skip over the actual sex. I have a ton of ships. Why can't OP ship all the stuff they like and not read the lemon bits?

I think most shippers are into the same exact kind of non-sex stuff you described in this secret. So, yeah, you're a shipper. You're just not into the smut part of it. And from what I've seen, fluff usually far outweighs smut in terms of fan-made shipping content.

But I guess it could be the other way around depending on the fandom.

There's tons of fics where they only hug and cuddle or go on adventures.
