77. first of all; YAY! for star trek: enterprise secrets! second; i agree with you about everything except for the theme song. that sucked the big one. archer's theme that played over the end credits was much better IMHO.
it's not easy saying you like ENT (which people blame for killing the franchise) i like TOS & all, but it's not the beginning & ending of all things trek. TNG is treated as the second coming & you can't say anything against that. DS9 gets flack as being "too dark" but some thinks it's brilliant. VOY gets shitted on because it had a female captain & was away from the usual trek stuff. sometimes you just can't win with trek *shrug*

1. Honestly, I'm going to take a risk and say I agree with you here. Yes, we're the zomgmajoritygroup so apparently we have no right to whine, but it's still frustrating that we take heat for something that's a way of life for us.

It's like how female gamers often have to hide their gender in order to be taken seriously -- it's not right, no matter how you look at it. If you're having to hide part of yourself to gain acceptance, then there's something wrong.

Not that I personally want to be more open about my faith because to me, it's a somewhat personal thing (that, and my beliefs differ somewhat from "mainstream" Christianity), but it's still annoying that any discussion of it turns into an I'm-more-oppressed-than-you contest.

Not that I'm specifically disagreeing with you :), but women are a minority group, and in the West, Christians are not. It's not quite analogous.

Don't get me wrong, discrimination is horrible no matter who's doing it to who, but the fandom Christian group can log off and get sympathy from 90% of the United States.

1. What, exactly, does your faith have to do with fandom anyway? Why does anyone actually need to know what creed you are? Not antagonizing here, I'm genuinely curious. Your faith is not fandom-related; it shouldn't matter in fandom works or discussions.

In defense of the OP's position....

You're right, it *shouldn't* matter, but sometimes, it comes up. I mean, what does being gay have to do with fandom? Or being black? or being straight and white for that matter? Sometimes, among a given group of people, it comes out. Occasionally a topic will come up on a community or among friends where people are outright asked personal things. While it's up to a person's own discretion as to how open they are about something - sometimes those things that *should have nothing to do with fandom* wind up affecting someone's fandom experience.

Additionally, occasionally something personal like faith/race/orientation/personal experience *does* have something to do with fandom when someone finds themselves helping people out on fanfic research, or giving constructive criticism to correct gross inaccuracies.
