Yes and no. I've been a fan of Sakura since the beginning and have always hated her being bashed only to have those same people turn around when she shows up in FMB and can "smashy-smashy" and think she's suddenly awesome. Those folks are still fans even if they decided to jump on the bandwagon a bit (or a lot) late. If anything it just means they're fans that don't really understand her and/or her motivations.

The rest of your secret though? Damn right.

46. Agreed. I love romance fics too, but I wish there were more general relationship stories - not even just in fanfic, but in fiction, period.

3 OP

(Anonymous) 2008-03-14 12:09 pm (UTC)(link)
See, that's kind of also why it's a secret. Because people would think I was a troll, get all over reactive with the 'seek help' stuff. It's not like I'm going to kill anyone! I could've made the secret even more tl;dr by trying to explain that but...

It's like having a WWJD bracelet. Maybe jesus would perform a miracle! But we can't do that so we think of it a different way. Sylar would kill someone, but I don't have superpowers so I can't do that, can I? If you see what I mean.

I'd be scared, too! Because I think he is such a dickhead. I enjoy some of his creations, but not the creator.

Irregardless, I hope that you sent your letter and he was, for once, not a dickhead and responded in a kind fashion! He probably doesn't even read his fanmail...

33. One of my friends who is huge into MLP would love that.

53. Me too, and I wouldn't want it any other way. ^_^

73. This has nothing to do with the actual secret, but the mere sight of Clay Aekin makes me want to vomit. I don't even know if I spelled his name right, and frankly I don't care.

22: Naruto's cool!

...

Ok, so he's mostly a dork. But a sweet dork! And he does have his cool moments.

23: No, you've got it right; that's pretty much the best anime that's ever been made (what objectivity?). Though I've found other anime I love, I've yet to find one I love quite as much. You might want to check out Princess Tutu, though. It's a lot milder, and more romantic, but has the same surreal insanity.

40: I love this secret. Secret maker, you are awesome.

46: It really isn't; maybe you're just not looking in the right places? About a third of the fic I've read in my newest acquired fandom (One Piece) have been gen. And I was actually looking for Zoro/Ruffy! (Why is that pairing so rare?)

65: What matters most in cosplay is a well-made costume (no cheap-lookingf cloth and bad sewing) and good hair. If the hair is wrong, the whole cosplay fails. The face is not very important. Also, what can make up for practically anything is having the attitude of the character you're playing. If you don't behave in the right way, even the best cosplay outfit seem lackluster and not as good as it actually is.

Er, this is quite a lot from someone who has never cosplayed, but I work at a lot of cons, so I see a lot of cosplayers. The best ones are always the ones who carries themselves as the character they play, and spent as much time on the hair as on the costume.

You don't have to hide it, you just don't have to shove it down people's throat all of the time. If your friends don't like you for having your faith, even when you're doing nothing, then maybe you're just in the wrong part of fandom.

Re: 1

(Anonymous) 2008-03-14 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
The problem with that is there are some people out there who think that Christian = Biblemonger automatically. I don't have any specific examples of wank like this because the attackers were all anonymous and the threads are usually deleted, but I've seen it happen (and have been dragged into it as well, online and in real life). In some groups, they're the enemy out to convert you and hate on your homosexuality no matter what; even if the person themselves haven't proven themselves to be narrow-minded, they should be chased out before they have the chance. As athiests and proud voices of Science and Reason, they take it upon themselves to enlighten Christians who are misguided by an outdated faith. It's no different than the Biblemongers they hate so much, but sadly, it's generally more accepted. You'll get dogpiled if you say anything that could be interpreted as Christian bigotry, but a lot of people won't raise a finger to someone who's lecturing a poor sop about the crusades and anti-gay laws and how horrible certain Christian followers are, and how this guy should own up to it and explain it all.

Granted, most online communities aren't swarming with bastards like that, but it does happen. Number one has probably learned the lesson the hard way, and is just sick of having anonymice pick at them.

I admire you for being true to what you love, but... Enterprise really is a stinker for a variety of reasons, and if your criteria for a good Trek show is the slickness of the special effects, then... well, I don't think special effects have ever been the measure of a great sci-fi, personally. And that theme song is painfully embarrassing.

Re: 77

[identity profile] mekkio.livejournal.com 2008-03-13 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Amen to all that, especially the theme song.

One of my favorite things about the Star Trek universe were the orchestrated theme songs. They never dated and anyone in any country could understand them. In fact, you could plop yourself in the middle of Japan and hum the theme song of any Star Trek and someone somewhere will hum right back to you even if they don't speak a lick of English. In short, they were universal. And then Enterprise came along and, well, destroyed that.

What were they thinking killing what was indeed a tradition?

45. Hey, if he's good enough for Willow to crush on, he's good enough for you.

46. Amen. People use that sort of plot device waaaaaaaay too much in fanfiction and fiction. I think it's much harder to write a platonic relationship because it means having to think outside the tried and true formula. Thing is, those relationships are my favorite. (See, House and Wilson, J.D. and Turk, Fawkes and Hobbes, Shawn and Gus, Bashir and O'Brien, Hurley and anyone on LOST.)

58. Yes! Radu is the best! I would take him over any whining, ohhhhh, I want to be human again, prissy Hot Topic bodice ripper vampire any day! You go to the bonus round of awesome!

[identity profile] bodyline.livejournal.com 2008-03-13 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
You know, it's so bizarre. When I started Naruto, I expected not to like Sakura because of the way I've heard fandom describe her. I was so shocked when, right from the bat? She was my favorite character. I don't even really like Naruto or Sasuke. I stopped reading the series after Haku and Zabuzo died but I'm picking it up again, and my main reason for wanting to continue? Sakura and her development.

I really just don't get the fandom hate towards her at all. It's very disappointing.

Re: NS! 4

I'm convinced most people who like it like it only because it was the first series.

I obviously can't claim to speak for every fan of the original series, but I'm pretty confident when I say that's not the case at all. I don't think it's for everyone, but those who say they love it certainly have good cause to, and I don't think anyone's daft enough to fib about loving it for the Trekkie credibility. :)

Not!secret3 - Drosselmeyer does not get enough love in the fandom. And now I have this image of him visiting other fandoms and writing fanfic of how he thinks their stories should have gone. Oh God, that would be the most wonderfully terrifying prospect ever. XD
