53. Well yeah, Dr. Who was a kids show at the beginning, meant to teach history and science. But I think for what was originally educational programming it's grown by leaps and bounds. I've enjoyed the characterization on it, even if cheap British special effects are painful.

58. I thought it was actually a great love story. I've still not watched the new Terminator series because I was worried about how they would portray Sarah Conner.

69. I like the old team a lot better too. The leaders didn't delight in making out the other members to be idiots.

[identity profile] assumed.livejournal.com 2008-03-16 07:09 am (UTC)(link)
66. The only thing I dislike about picspams is that I can't right click-save as fast enough. Seriously, I have individual folders for individual people/characters and godforbid they can be easy to find on my mess of a harddrive.

But yeah. Sorry I'm ~objectifying~ people I admire. Only not really.

It's okay, I remember totally seeing it too when I watched it.

#60 op here

THANK YOU. Finally, someone else. XD

[identity profile] aetheristic.livejournal.com 2008-03-16 07:40 am (UTC)(link)
10. Uh, incorrect. Meteor Garden is a drama version of the manga hana yori dango, which the hyd drama is also based on. That's like saying that the Japanese hana kimi drama is a remake of the Chinese.

19. As one of the drugtrax uploaders, I have to grr at this. Everyone downloads. We understand this. We're sharing our music for that purpose.

36. Completely agreed. I can understand where they're coming from in the case of some licensed translations (some of them are just really, really bad), but you think they could stop bellyaching for one minute, huh, and just be glad that the translators are giving people worldwide a better chance at getting to read this stuff.

50. omg I love you

20, 30

[identity profile] steeple333.livejournal.com 2008-03-16 08:02 am (UTC)(link)
20> I love him, too! ^o^ When my friend introduced me to the games, she told me about the Judge's dialogue right away.

30> This is one of my favorite moments in anime. Not because of teh SasuNaru, but because I find it so darn hilarious. ^o^ The looks on their faces are priceless! I wish I had a camera and could tease them endlessly about it. =D I think Sasuke would have a hard time being emo if he was reminded of embarrassing schoolday moments. =]

[identity profile] versa6032.livejournal.com 2008-03-16 08:07 am (UTC)(link)
69. AGREED! Also, Andy creeps me out. I've never liked him. I actually like the Irish guy though.

There's an awful lot of motivation to be found in service of one's muses. Mine, for example, have pushed me to look for a more fulfilling job, research all sorts of scientific and historical topics, and start taking better care of myself because I, like you, want to get all the ideas down. It's good that you listen to them, because the process is self-sustaining: keep listening and keep writing, and they'll keep speaking. Which, if it helps you personally, is even more of a gift.

And yes, I prefer being crazy and alive. Any truly sane person would.

10. Waayyyy to do your research bud, based on the SAME manga that incidently is called 'Hana Yori Dango'. It's licensced in how many countries for crissake...

11. I'd Second this, yet to me, it's Tatsuya from P2:IS, sorry--close though...

29. Would Jesus even read fic?

Nice secrets all around today!

#08. That's why I use this handy # for my responces, see! Though it seems the mods have started to add a 0. Nice, but "find" will still find dates.

#10. Erm, they're based on the same manga. Meaning, not remake.

#14. I get more comments for my gen art than I do my slash fic or art. (And since I don't keep count of feedback for individual fics it's a bit hard for me to say with certainty what fic got more comments than others, but the last fic that I got more responces to than I ever expected was gen.) I just think gen needs to be generally better than slash or het to gain attention, because it doesn't have as large an "automatic" audience, but that doesn't mean good gen is snubbed. It just needs to, y'know, actually be good. Honestly, I think you're just overrating gen because you like it, just like slashers overrate slash because they like it. It just so happens there are more slashers than gen-lovers. (o lawl, that sounded like I think my gen is godly. But I mean it in general.)

#22. Thanks for the lol!

#23. I'm not sure where KBell gets her large adoring fanbase from, but it does seem to seep into every possible fandom, doesn't it. It boggles me. (I don't dislike her, I just don't get the major hype.)

#26. That series was made for f/f, wasn't it. I don't disagree with you that the fanbase is probably too small for a kink meme, but I do think you should write it ... shame otherwise.

#28. Mmmmmm ... no.

#36. Most of the time, I take fandom complaining about a translation to mean the translator did a good job of actually translating. Because most of the time, what fandom wants from a translation is things like "sensei" or "oniichan" to be left intact, and a 15-page glossary of Japanese terms in the back of the book. And sorry, that's not a good translation. I'd be more sad if you succumbed to fandom than if you didn't try to do your best. Protip: fandom will complain about anything.

#61. Me too.

OP 14

I don't like gen more than slash, actually. As mentioend it really does depends on what I'm in the mood for, really. (and likely the fandom I'm in.) I just have trouble finding them more than slash (for all fandoms).

I thought it was suitable for someone like me to write this secret because I neither do fanart or fanfic (gen & smut), but I enjoy both aspects of it (just that because of the number of smut > gen, it feels harder to find good smut fic. Based on my own observations of fandom and what I deem good/bad, your case seems to be a pleasant abnormality, but still a trend serverely lacking in fandom.

I haven't been in this fandom for a long time but still :

I didn't ship them because of the cuteness (I fact I don't really think was all that pretty back then, waaaay too thin, I wanted to feed her fattening food), but because I thought there was more chemistry between them in their first meeting than in the whole time she spent with Logan.

I also thought she was somehow pathetic around Logan while I liked her as a stuck up bitch around Alec (more in character ;) ). It's easier to write porn when there is some antagonism going on between characters ;)

And it's not BECAUSE of the Max/Alec shipper that it's almost impossible to find good Max/Logan porn, one pairing is not at fault for the lack of other pairings. In quite a few fandoms (well at least the fandoms I've been in) you have (good) porn for more than one pairing, it all depends on what the writers are inspired for.

This said, good luck in finding more :) (I like for everyone to get their daily dose of porn ;) )

22: ...I wonder if you and I are thinking of the same person. I wish I could find out.

72: Even 'POST'+'response response response' can be a viable game. Sure, it's easier if you're not good at writing outside of dialouge, but that doesn't mean that the players don't have to work to stay IC, or can't have meaningful character interactions. Some of the best RP I've seen has been in [livejournal.com profile] dramadramaduck, which is apparently the exact style you hate. A cross-section - some of the worst RP I've seen was there too. :/

Prefer other things, sure, go ahead. But don't belittle LJ RPs. We can be fun and interesting too.

Ha ha, oh don't worry. I'm aware of that. I actually do realize that there are some pretty amazing comment logging RPs out there. There is just something about the way fandom will drop fic, drop traditional text RPs, drop other fandom friends and get all smug and egocentric about the characters they play in these RPs, most of which are a dime a dozen. Certainly, that kind of crap happens in all forms of roleplaying (oh man, I've been there, to the moon and back ugh), but there is something about the way it happens over comment-logging RPs that really irks me. I probably could have worded my post more diplomatically, but half the point of fandomsecrets is to vent, right?

I've been outright snubbed in my fandom for writing genfics and avoiding the pRon. I just couldn't see the slash pairing, and it seems this is tantamount to being a 'hater'--even though I've written plenty of slash in the past. I'm sorry, I'm just tired of it. I want to read write a good *story* and not one that devolves into teh buttsex (tm)

That's not a welcome attitude in a lot of fandom circles, no matter how understanding you are over other people's preferred pairings :(

Re: #14

53. Old Who much? True, it's obviously a family show, but it has a little more depth than, say, 'Friends'. Just let people ship what they ship- it's not like you'll say will change their minds.

I think I get your point...sort of. The over-fetishization of body parts in some fandoms can be slightly disturbing, and sometimes the comments are like...basically just going *unf unf unf*, and that's, yeah, TMI. But not everyone's like that and it's not like that should make you hate ALL picspams, etc...Pictures are pretty, people should be allowed to squee. ^^

14: I wish the exclusively gen fans would get over their superior complex already. There's nothing inherently better in gen; fics with pairings can have just as much canon and character exploration as genfic. Yes, even if it does contain the dreaded sex. There's barely characterised sex PWP in slash and het, but gen has barely characterised crack humour PWP, so I'd say they're fairly equal.

A lot of fans read all types of fiction, and goodfic generally always receive less comments regardless of genre. Yes, good slash (and presumably het?) fic always have a significantly lower amount of comments than the badfic, especially the long ones. Probably because it takes more out of the reader to say something about such fic.

Also, there's quite a lot of gen in all the fandoms I'm in at least; a lot of it's bad, of course (like all fic), but I've found more gen in certain fandoms than slash for the pairing I like.

16: Bah, this is misunderstanding feminism and the talk of female space in fandom again. The "female space" is the fact that we've been able to develop a place where our wishes and tastes weren't dictated and determined by men. Ideally, men would want to join such a place and accept it and hopefully have as much fun as we do in our style, so to speak.

36: I feel the same way, sort of. Only I've become more determined to become a professional translator, since I believe these people are idiots.

37+38 OTP? LOL. Most people are gigantic sick perverts (myself included). The human fantasy just works that way. XD

50: I think their art for Tsubasa and xxxHolic is very nice, actually. They do tend to go overboard with the melodrama, though I find the "eye-removal fetish" sort of funny. I'd wager that your friendslist wouldn't go on a rampage if you expressed your criticism in a calm and sane manner. Aggressive hatred tends to make people a bit defensive, you know.

55: I agree about the "cheating bastards" part, but I hardly think romance is "cheapening". Sure, if you replaced their friendship with romance I could understand the complaint, but simply adding it (it could be an unrealised romance for example) shouldn't destroy any preexisting feelings.

That said, I do prefer them as friends myself; I just really dislike the notion that romance is somehow less worth than friendship, or can turn friendship into something less.
