It wasn't really about personality. The type I thought I was is more useful compared to the type I really am (I have a parent in the Red Cross, so I'm going by their figures), and I suppose that 'losing' the ability to help anyone on a larger scale was what bummed me out. :/

Sorry, but if you think anything by Ken Akumatsu is meant to be deep on any level, you're wrong and reading way too into it. The man writes the same story filled with every moe stereotype female characters he can find. The only thing new he did with Negima was instead of having a hapless dweep male lead, he made Negi a Harry Potter-esque shota bait to be the affection of his always prevalent Tsun-dere from hell female lead. Fandom wank defenses won't save any face that Akumatsu only writes the same kind of shonen harem fluff over and over. :D

Well, yeah, of course -- but if it were just a matter of "some people" not liking it, that probably wouldn't bother me much. It's more that fandom as a whole seems to have a bias against professional translations -- not just the fanbrats, either, since some of the mostly sane and intelligent fans that I know do it too.

All that said, though, I know it's probably stupid to let that get to me at all.

It's called an opinion. You should be free to hate them just as we are free to like them. So what if they don't make masterpieces? So what if their writing kind of blows in a lot of cases? I still enjoy reading their stuff. Seriously, accept the fact that people don't all like the same things and quit bitching because not everybody agrees with you.

A fanfic isn't a limited commodity; you can't use it up on the wrong people. You can't hurt anybody just by reading.
