12. Dude, I am so there with you. My Dad recently rediscovered our Nintendo, and every time I play Pokemon Snap and hear their little noises I think of that episode. I can barely even remember what happened, but I remember it was incredibly sad and I get depressed every time I even think about it, lol.

46. The mods don't know what they're doing there.

(Anonymous) 2008-05-15 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
No kidding. The character lists for almost all the fandoms are woefully incomplete and contain misspellings. Also, they're almost never updated. Depictions of female-to-male transgendered characters isn't allowed, which would be understandable in the case of porn, but it extends to written fiction with no sex scenes or even visuals and only words.

I love that series SO MUCH. It's hands down one of the best music games ever. I really wish I could find doujin of it, for how popular it seems to be, there seems to be NOTHING out there.

Doujishi DO exist, but the only way you'd be able to get 'em is to go to Comiket. I know Chabudai has made a few, and I personally would love to get my hands on the Ippongi/J (not kidding!) one.

...is a repeat, I'm pretty sure.

And also really too bad, considering that they're both nasty jerks who don't actually write very well at all. They weren't laughing at themselves, they were laughing at everyone else (probably even you), and being terrible bitches about it. I'm sorry you seem to think they're people worth admiring.

68 OP.

(Anonymous) 2008-05-15 07:26 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, it is a repeat. That was my fault.

Likewise, I am sorry you seem to hold a grudge against two people who say more than "OMFG I LUV U" and actually state their opinions, negative or positive. And let's not forget the fact that they did this on their own journals, and did not link to the fic, flame or otherwise harass any author of whatever they were commenting on.

Not everyone is going to OMG LOVE your writing, and that's okay. What no one seems to notice is that it's an opinion, and that they did the equivalent of someone saying "wow, that movie sucked" on their own journal. But no movie writer comes and yells at them, do they?

I'm also sorry you can't seem to look past the criticism they apparently gave you and see that they're actually very pleasant people. As for their talent, if you think they have none, well, that's simply your opinion, isn't it? I just happen to have a differing one.

This is all assuming you are upset with them for that huge DGM Wank Fest a good while ago. Oops if I'm wrong, but I personally can't see any other reason for your disdain.

6. Er, you pretty much brought up your dilemma and the overall outcome for your dilemma in that single secret. You don't have to like certain parts of any kind of fandom (in this case, anything non-canon) to enjoy it. But with a strong intolerance like yours, I seriously doubt you're going to get any luck finding friends in whatever fandom you try to get into or are trying to get into. As it's probably been stated before, being canon does not give you any type of special treatment. It's just an empty word. No one can make you like non-canon, you just have to learn to suck it up and deal with it. Otherwise you're just going to be waving around some big "canon" stick trying to look threatening when it really only makes you look like an idiot.

30. Because we all know that blossoming talent isn't allowed to pre-teens or young adults. That's only for the big kids. We might as well keep them from having career aspirations. Little pricks need to just stick to watching their cartoons and going to school. They have no right trying to develop a bright future and skills that they could strengthen and enjoy later on in their lives.

06. Don't see why you'd want fandom friends, seeing your interest in fandom seems to be completely different/more casual. I mean, I guess it'd be nice just to have someone to geek out with, but you can do that with people who like fanfics/fanart/pairings, too, you know. But if you only like canon, and hate fanworks so much, I wouldn't expect to ever really fit into fandom like other people do. Maybe you could write essays or something about the canon material for people to read and discuss, but that would require making some kind of interpretation that the canon never outright says, which doesn't seem to be your cup of tea. e.e;;

I personally find sticking straight to omg canon boring (had friends like that in the past, and they came across as really snobby until they isolated themselves from the rest of fandom), but that doesn't mean I condone making the characters OOC or completely bastardizing the series in question. (Although, incidentally, there are many series with characters who are never outright stated to be straight OR gay. Do you just not support any pairings at all with them, or what?)

In short: Not everyone in fandom is a retarded, squeeing fangirl who only cares about who's shagging who, but it's going to be pretty hard to connect with people if you hate it when they even think about getting creative with the canon material, whether you tell them so or not. Even if you never outright tell them how you feel, I think that kind of energy carries over into conversations and stuff, and it becomes clear you're not that interested in what they have to say/what they're doing.

[identity profile] harveytheayeaye.livejournal.com 2008-05-15 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
pretty sure

[identity profile] poisontea.livejournal.com 2008-05-15 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
03. Already been said, but anybody who doesn't like a series because there's no sex (or because of what pairing ended up canon, besides obvious exceptions like when it actually is random or out of character) gets a big huge "WTF" from me.

04. Agreed so hard. It's like his "dream scene"- I cry more during that bit than most other parts of the show. And that expression on his face makes me a sad bunny inside. ):

06. You know, for a lot of series, the original source material is not perfect, some of the characters are not as fully explored as they could be and never WILL be... not to mention that, you know, the default setting for everybody in the world is not 'STRAIGHT UNTIL PROVEN GAY' (in before BUT BISEXUALITY IS IMAGINARY- *shot*).

But mostly, I guess my advice would be to just- stay away from the majority of fandom. You want to be part of something that is 99% MADE OF the things you have a burning hatred for? Fandom IS fanfiction, fanart, noncanonical pairings, and a ton of other stuff that... isn't the main canon. If you just want the main canon, just- watch/read the main canon. Because you know, even discussing a character's motivations and trying to dig deeper into motivations and underlying themes among your friends is non-canon- you're reading stuff into the original source material that isn't right there plainly stated.

Short version: I don't hate you, but yes, in a fandom environment, I think most people would rightfully think you're not much fun to interact with, if you hate what fandom is.

10. ... I usually slam people who respond with things like this, SO LET ME PHRASE IT REALLY CAREFULLY. I don't respect you or your opinion any less, per se? But that end slam on Haibane Renmei, which I believe WAS something incredible, and I don't know the show in your secret, but I'm preeeeetty sure we have severely different tastes, so I'm just going to discard your opinion on it until/unless I see it and form an opinion myself.

12. BUT WHAT ABOUT THE PIKACHU EPISODE. >E No, seriously, I was sad with the Butterfree, but I bawled like a dork when Ash left Pikachu behind. The song still makes me cry. /lame

15. Haha, I know how you feel. I get told a TON of movies are horrible, but I... like most of them. ): Just differing tastes, people, geez. (I haven't seen that movie, but my god everyone hates Bewitched... XD;)

17. I- I cried then, and might not cry now, but I do know how you feel at least. D: Sad scene is sad.

22. Jonathan Coulton can have my babies. Even if he eats them. :| LOVE HIS STUFF, I swear.

26. Ignoring your secret purely because I have nothing to say, I agree that she is gorgeous ♥

28. Is this a repeat? I've seen it before. >_> Either way, I sympathise. I regret leaving ju-jitsu, though not due to any characters per se. D:

30. Either a troll or a retard or both! But I'll be nice and feed you anyway: GTFO, those kids apparently worked harder than you to be able to draw, if you feel threatened by them- you don't just find talent lying in the street, and they deserve whatever level they worked to get to. And you apparently deserve to be a loser. *golf claps*

31. Honey, if the writers were concerned with pandering to any part of their fanbase instead of telling the story they wanted to tell/that needed to be told, they kind of suck anyway. Do we have to pull out whatever-your-fandom-is versions of the HARRY POTTER IS NOT A DEMOCRACY icons?

32. Not in your fandom, but I too ship everyone with everyone and anyone else in quite a few of mine, so I feel ya there. XD

71. I will dream your impossible dream with you. Because that would be the most kick-ass thing since sliced Samuel Jackson.

You, me and 38 OP must all know the same guy. He's had so many broken engagements and broken LTRs that it's actually possible...LOL

6: You believe fandom would think you were stuck-up, a prude, and no fun to be with if they found out you were... er, stuck-up, a prude and no fun to be with? At least there's nothing wrong with your sense of logic, I suppose.

15: I'm deathly scared of zombies in any form, so naturally I watch every film about them obsessively. Due to my fear, I've never been able to judge the actual merits of the films themselves...

32: Hehe, you ship Gogo? As a man? A woman? (Should I even ask...?) XD

Seriously, I don't know why people who don't ship scream bloody murder as soon as a hint of potential romance is suggested. (I played it when it was new, BTW, so I suppose I'm old-school? But I detest that sort of labels. What does it matter when you played it? It's still the same game.)

There are so many possibilities for shippign in that game, too... I'm partial to Setzer/anyone, myself!

40: Well, there goes all the religious people of the world, I suppose...

But if you want a sense of wonder and mystery in your life, you could always take up advanced physics. Truth can indeed be stranger than fiction (and even more wonderful).

OP for 32

Going by the fan theory that Gogo is really Daryl. :D

6. Well, considering that about 75% of fandom is speculation, what-if's, and deviations from canon? I'd say you're kinda right :\

30. I'll admit, sometimes I feel pretty envious... Especially when I was told my whole life that I had talent (that whole "everyone is a special snowflake!" shit) only to find out that... I don't.

44. Clamp's art is so far removed from the human form right now that I think they should stop calling their characters human. Sure, most anime is ridiculous anyway -- huge eyes and all -- but Clamp has taken it to a new extreme of crazy facials and super!stretched out bodies. Not to mention that the main from that show HAS NO PENIS. And I used to LOVE Clamp's art...

64. On a couple of mine I did that just to throw people lol

69. Uhhh what. How will this make you popular askjagk become a good writer/artist/iconist and that's what's gonna make you popular. Be outgoing, too -- it helps.

Mick Nekoi is drawing instead of Mokona Apapa, right now, I'm pretty sure.

I think Mokona has arthritis(sp?), which is why she's doing less. But in Nekoi's defense, she's the one who did Wish, which is also beautiful (Super wispy, I love it when lines don't come to a point and just float off into neverland~).

I do agree, though, that they need to shift back to their older style. I liked the broad shoulders and overall shape better. The recent style is too unreal for me. (Japanese people are just not that tall. And Yuuko's breasts? Wtf?)

Haha, Lulu's lack of male anatomy is a source of constant hilarity~
