33 Oh, please. If you think that's why we ship that pairing you need to lump yourself into that group of racist misogynist people--assuming that McSheppers only care about that pairing because John and Rodney are white and 'pretty' is every bit as bad as assuming Teyla is 'black' because the actress is.

Object to the show's writers and producers if you like, but not all of the fans subscribe to the idea that the characters live in the same world as the actors do...

42 That's kind of cool! Yay for fandom helping you out in the real world. I'm not much of a fan of that pairing either, to be honest...

43 Heh. I hear you on this. Though, I have to say, the bigger problem is the divide between genficcers and shipficcers. If that could be bridged without one or the other treating each other as if they were inferior, that would be so much better.

And... talking about sex IS fun. Part of it is just the joy of participating in something adult for the sake of it. Not 'adult' as in sexy, but adult as in, our own boss. Reveling in the joy of sexuality because we can.

57 Seriously, check out secret 43! Let's all encourage each other! The more we communicate between that divide of gen and slash/het, the more people will feel confident in writing good stories for a wider audience!

Shaddup, I'm an optimist.

These people don't care that Teyla's an alien or that Ruby in SPN was a demon. It's all about the race and gender of the actor.

Except when it's Nathan Petrelli. Because everyone knows that people who like the Petrellis the best only like white pretty boys, and the race of the actor suddenly doesn't matter any more, even though Adrian Pasdar is basically Iranian (or at least his father was).

SRSLY, you cannot win with these folks. (A fellow McShepper, AND an unashamed Dean Winchester lover and Adrian Pasdar fan)

The only thing better than the secret is the number of commenters who have been plunged into confusion over whether the unabridged version does or does not exist.

Not that I ever combed the internet and every bookstore in a 500 mile radius looking for it or anything.

08. Me toooo.

26. I've been to Comiket. They don't do it any better in Japan than they do it here. Get over it, most manga characters don't look like any particular race.

32. ...whut?

33. Do you actually know any people outside fandom? SRSLY, this gives me the lolz. Fandom is much more liberal than reality. The problem isn't that fandom is full of racism and misogyny, there's less here than in most places and there's at least some self-awareness. The problem is that everyone who just finished a race studies or a gender studies course expects everyone else to talk and think like they do regardless of when they went to school or whether they are privileged enough to be able to afford to go to school and take non-practical classes like that. The other problem is that some people in fandom confuse not loving every character of colour or not loving every female character with bigotry. WTF.

57. Comment! Nobody ever gets enough feedback, especially positive feedback. They're not going to look you up and go OMG SLASHER.

59. That is so dark I cannot tell what symbol that is supposed to be. It looks like the Sigillium Dei Aemeth, is it? Or is it that symbol that's under the SPN logo?

77. Yeah, me too.

TB!3/4. Rape fantasy fics are not about real rape. Many of us know that. Many of the people who read and write such things have actually been assaulted sexually, but the fantasy of meeting someone who knows exactly what you want and does it to you without any asking or negotiation or vulnerable asking for it does not go away. I understand that you are a survivor. But not every survivor reacts that way (hint: I didn't--I am freaked out by realistic traumatic rapes in fics but I still love stupid bodice-rippers) so there's no need to wish this awful horrible experience on people just because they like fics you don't.

The lumping together of the South East Asian countries like that suggests that the OP is in fact not really Japanese - racist/xenophobic Japanese people look down on other Asian countries (especially Koreans) more than almost everything else.

23- The amount of good dad Minato would have been, and good family he would have had makes me cry too.

26- You're right cause, guess what...it IS rascist! (And if you're gonna play that card you should also recognize that a lot of anime character don't look even vaguely asian. At least I've never seen a naturally blue eyed blond haired asian, and I can't really see Naruto bleaching his hair and putting in contacts)

46- GOD YES> Because Gender swap is win.

47- I don't think it's the people reading and enjoying it that get's people so upset, it's the people who think it's the BEST BOOK EVER OMG.

57- It's sad that, although most would probably be fine, some would get upsets just cause you're a slasher.

62- I think there must be something psychologically wrong that people roleplaying as animals creeps you out more then people getting off to slicing people up.

01. Disney is what got me into being an animation fan, so...yeah, can't really agree there. But it's fine to have different taste too.

02. Well, sometimes the manga is better and does make too many changes. That being said, I think the FMA anime is really, really good, and for a Gecko ending it does a fairly good job of developing the characters. And doesn't add a bunch of meaningless fanservice. (I'm looking at you, Gonzo adaption of Chrono Crusade.)

04. ...I need motivation like that.

14. GO EMMA! It really is a sweet manga. (I need to get some of the volumes I haven't finished yet...). The anime's going to be coming out to the US soon! Although sub-only, unfortunantly.

26. Yeah, it does sound racist. ^^; Unless they're running around speaking horrible fangirl Japanese, I don't have a problem with it.

30. ...I think you win for strangest ship I've ever seen.

32. Idiot. The abridged version IS the original. He wrote it and pretended it was an abridged version. It's all a big joke. Seriously, google is your friend.
(Unless you're just trying to get people riled up, in which case...um, pick something better to troll about.)

34. I think you're delusional.

53. ...Wait, what? They're...cartoon characters. They EXIST to entertain us, don't they?

56. ...LOL that'd be interesting to watch.

57. As a writer, I'll take reviews from ANYONE. Really!

69. Do it! It'd be great!

Re-read the secret. It's not about people hating on the characters or the series-- it's about people hating on [livejournal.com profile] capslock_atlarp, a roleplaying game. Apparently, quite a few non-players follow the RP. These lurkers have been dissatisfied with the quality of the posts lately, and have been expressing their sentiments via secrets. The players (including myself) are more than a little irritated with this, as we, unlike cartoon characters, do not exist to entertain the general public.

13. UNION OVERFLAG IS FUCKING WIN! ( I am sad thinking that Graham won't have a Mobile Suit as cool as the Overflag next season. ) Battle between Graham and Johann, fuck yes! I was totally excited and overjoyed when Johann's Throne lost an arm. . .awesome exchange. And GN Flag?! Exia's saber that cuts through GN Fields?! Oh my goodness. Too much awesome for me.

Yeah. I'm a Graham-fangirl. But that doesn't mean I don't like the battle scenes. I tell everyone that episode 10 is my favorite episode. Episode 9 and 10 had awesome and just seeing Kyrios rip through with its shield-claw ( does it have a name? ) and Virtue's secret. . .fucking awesome.

I was pretty upset, though, with what happened with Nadleeh. I mean, come on! All that build up and you finally get to see Nadleeh's true power only to have it shut down seconds later? ARGH! Nadleeh's moment in the spotlight got ripped out from under it.

Sorry for unnecessary long and pointless ramble. . .

43)What bothers me is how every close couple is assumed to be sexual. Sometimes relationships are just platonic, and I think the bond is stronger and more beautiful than a romantic one.

63) Good choice. :)

Re: 43

[identity profile] roko-epsilon.livejournal.com 2008-05-20 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
What bothers me is when people use the terms "romantic" and "sexual" as if they are interchangeable. Romance != sex. People can be in a romantic relationship without anything being sexual. People can have sex and not have a romantic relationship. The two words are not synonyms.

13 (and a little bit of 44)

[identity profile] khandreia.livejournal.com 2008-05-20 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
Those fanboys sound an awful lot like the ones I had to contend with all the time during my time in the general Gundam fandom a number of years ago (about 2001-2004 or so), and were what eventually drove me out of the fandom (along with a lot of other stuff as well). It wouldn't surprise me if you're talking about the same exact people that I knew too, because I got much the same treatment. Always treated as some know-nothing, bishounen-obsessed fangirl while they fantasised about being Gundam pilots (even with their own self-insert-type group fics!), when I was just as interested in the story, mecha, and character development.

So trust me...you are not alone at all. As it is, I've found myself getting more enjoyment out of Gundam without being in the fandom, much like the OP of secret 44 and their leaving their own fandom. Sure, there's really no one else to talk to, but at least there's also no one treating you like dirt either.

[identity profile] mirroriste.livejournal.com 2008-05-20 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
26. Well that's really unfair. First of all, not all anime characters are ASIAN (I mean, using your image as an example, Naruto's BLONDE. With BLUE EYES.), and 2nd of all, so your saying only asian people have the right to cosplay anime characters? Well by those standards only americans should be able to American comic book characters or even be non-asian characters for halloween (Um, like Cleopatra or Red Riding Hood). By that logic, cosplay would die out in america because if only asian people can cosplay, it may not affect it in japan but here in america or in the UK or anywhere that isn't asian, that'd be less than half of the people going to a con at least.

To make a long story short, you're elitist and kind of dumb. ♥

77. I do too XD I don't know why.

Yeah, honestly, not sure why this person is trying so hard with that group, it's obvious they are only interested in whatever band that is. It's not too hard to get involved with fandom and make new friends interested in geeking out on those other very large popular fandoms. Friends don't have to share every interest in order to stay friends.
