Too Big 1

[identity profile] antiva.livejournal.com 2008-06-14 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Lol irony of this being listed under 'too big'.

Anyhow, Fai IS really skinny. Like... really. idk I can kind of see why they do it. It's hard to make sense of CLAMP's noodle anatomy, after all, and in certain frames, Fai is skinnier than Syaoran ffs.

And some guys do actually have that without being totally emaciated, you know. Wanting to insert realism in CLAMP art != bad.

104: She's androgynous? *sends in feminist brigade* Okay, okay, I get your point. And ever since that teaser picture was released I've been drooling over it. Still haven't seen the movie though. $12 for a fucking ticket here. Damn.

119: Do I have the right to say that Twilight sucks because I do read very challenging high literature in my spare time? I kinda feel like HP is the same way, sort of -- I read the books and got into the fandom because they were like crack, but holy fuck they are so stupid. And I could tell you what book my humongous and out-of-control senior thesis was on, but that would be pretentious. Right?

124: Is that... Henry Ian Cusick? He has a small fandom? Lololol o rly.

Re: 119

[identity profile] luisa-f.livejournal.com 2008-06-14 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
HP books are kind of lousy too, but the worst part is unlike Twilight people have fooled themselves into thinking they're actually a great work of literature.

And I'm a fan of both so it irks me when HP fans act like HP is so much better that Twilight when aside from the wonderful universe and characters J.K Rowling created, and the potential (all wasted) those books had, the series turned out a bit ridiculous, cheesy and clichéd in the end.

In a way I feel worse for the energy I wasted on HP than for reading Twilight, because I had such high expectations for HP when I discovered it and it was an underwhelming experience.

119. And what if you enjoyed them and still know they're trashy vampire novels (without the sex part)? Seriously, people can't make up their minds, they hate it when people act like they're a master piece, and they hate it when people admit to liking them but also admit they aren't like the best books ever written.

Make up your mind people.

PS: I've never read Proust in my entire life, I read books when I feel like reading them, not with the goal of getting some non-existent reader cred.

PS: I've never read Proust in my entire life, I read books when I feel like reading them, not with the goal of getting some non-existent reader cred.

WORD.

It would be a sad life indeed if we all put on airs. Look, I love the Godfather, but I can also sit down and watch Starship Troopers and have a good time -- I KNOW THE DIFFERENCE. It doesn't mean I don't get the same enjoyment out of them. The same goes for books. \:O/

Some people just want to appear smarter than they are. I bet you dollars to donuts this person isn't a day over 16.

[identity profile] lanjelin.livejournal.com 2008-06-14 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, people sure are wordy today...

131: Bah, the U.S. has permeated the rest of the world with its culture, they can take a little bashing!

But seriously, the better part of the internet-using world have a pretty good idea of what the U.S. and its larger cities are like (albeit we may have a somewhat skewed impression of your crime rate XD), so most people will recognise when something is clearly untruthful.

132: I thought One Piece was incredibly popular? I love its art in any case, and it's one of the best stories in existance, all categories.

But really, sometimes art style can be really offputting; you can't love everything, no matter the quality.

Re: 131, 132

132 OP-
It is, but I dunno, I get the feeling that it'd be more popular if people looked past/got used to/etc. the style. x_x; I think in terms of story, it's better than, say, Naruto.

Yeah, I agree on the second part though.
It's totally fine to not like a few series because of style, but if the only style of comics you read or actively seek out is OMGPRETTYS then you are a stylef*g.

169. While I don't agree on the losing respect thing, those sigs are really irritating. I think it started with the whole "2% of kids who haven't tried weed" back in AIM profiles. They annoy the shit out of me.
(Irony being my long-standing sig on dA is similar, but also retarded and not "making a statement" like the rest.)

101. You are awesome. That's not sarcasm.

121. It's not even that it's about math, for me, since I loved sphere break in X-2. It's that it's invisible, random math. "Okay, so you have these stats, but, uh...we're just going to randomly add or subtract up to five points in either direction, kay?" "Wait. What?" "LOL -5! -5! -5!"

132 OP

Hay, sup.
My point was that it seems to me that people discriminate too much on how the style is... and therefore watch shows more for the "OMG BISHOUNEN!!!1" factor rather than story or character development.
In my opinion, these things should come before the pretty in judging a show! Not that I have anything against eye-candy, though ;)

[identity profile] cavechan.livejournal.com 2008-06-14 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
That's honorable and nice and all, but there are some series that I like for the pretty. xD Death Note isn't one of them though. I just can not picture L/Light or any couples really.

132. Well, yeah. Not much to add to the secret. :P Though for my taste, Monster, too, could have delved deeper into the human psyche etc. than it ultimately did. Or maybe I'm just bitter because I wanted to be fascinated by Johann and found him pretty dull in the end. :( *sad*
