Regarding the late posts recently:

The intent is to provide readers with a sense of pride and accomplishment for stumbling across new posts.

As for the wait time, we selected initial values based upon data from past years. Among other things, we're looking at secret-per-reader earn rates on a daily basis, and we'll be making constant adjustments to ensure that readers have posts that are compelling, rewarding, and of course attainable via following the community.

Our team will continue to make changes and monitor community feedback and update everyone as soon and as often as we can.

Old Fic

I've been reading a bunch of old X-Files fic lately and it's *such* a trip. There's something like... not quite innocent, but maybe un-selfconscious about it? Like, with fic now, we have all these ideas about cliches and tropes and standards and things like that. It's kind of refreshing to go back to fic from a time when no one cared about any of that.

Has anyone else gone back to read older fanfic? How did it hold up?

At this rate I’d be willing to pay $200 to ship my accidental rooster to someone who wouldn’t kill him, eat him, or use him for cockfighting. On the other hand, most farm sanctuaries are at capacity for roosters, and one of the farm sanctuaries that takes roosters requires that you also give them all your hens (because “splitting up families is immoral”), buy a $350 coop from Home Depot, pay a couple hundred bucks on surrendering them, and pay for their food for the rest of their lives.

It was legal 5 years ago to have roosters here, dammit, and it’s not like I wanted one, but now that the hatchery fucked up and I’ve got one, I want him to have the same quality of life my hens will: food, shelter, space to roam, treats, kindness, and vet care when they need it, even if they all live 16+ years like Scruffy, my hen who hadn’t laid an egg for years and spent the last year of her life as basically a housepet. I have pictures of her on the couch next to the dog. Beetlejuice deserves a good home, and I’m afraid of what’ll happen if I can’t find him one soon.

I've spent over ten years in this game, and I don't get it. It's like enjoying sci-fi and fantasy somehow = getting off on feeling sorry for yourself, and having free reign to say whatever hateful things you like about literally anybody, just because they haven't met your almighty standards.

Job question

I might repost this on tonight's post if nobody sees - I'm in need of some advice.

I was offered a job today! It's for a night shift position including weekends (I knew this when I applied), starting next month. I live with my partner who works during the day and while we knew it would be a big challenge we decided we could deal with it. When they made the offer, they said I could choose which two days I'd like to have off. If I take the job starting next month, it'll be two days during the week that my partner works a couple hours later.

BUT I could also choose to start in January, and if I did that, my weekend would include the day she gets out early and a day she doesn't work - so ultimately more time with her.

Now there is a chance my background check won't be completed in time for that one and I'll have to take the January one anyway...but I've been out of work for almost two months and money is getting really tight - plus I'm always afraid of "looking bad" to the employer and thought it might reflect poorly if I took the later opening after agreeing in the interview that I was okay with December.

After I gave my answer I talked to my partner a little bit about it and I think I'm an idiot for not just choosing the January one. Do you think it would be okay to speak with them again and say "I discussed it with my partner/gave it some more thought and decided I would prefer the January start date?" or am I NOT an idiot in my initial thinking that this would make me look bad? I know logically they've already offered me the job and said I had a choice - it's more my anxiety/people-pleaseriness that's got me stuck here.
