147. Because it was a poorly-done move to placate a particularly irritating section of the fanbase by a man with an unfortunate fixation on a character who is not so much a full person as a collection of unpleasant traits. Because it squicks me that the Doctor thinks that all hybrids, accidentally-created beings and so forth are OMG WRONG AND BAD AND WRONG (see Jack, Jenny, Doctor!Donna...) and yet is willing to foist one on Rose just to shut her up. Because I have a sneaking suspicion that without the time travel and eternal youth factors, Rose will see what an arsehole Ten really is. Because it was a piece of saccharine crap that dragged out an already-too-long episode. Because neither of the characters involved are likeable and thus it's frankly somewhat of an embarrassment to the actors, even if they don't see it that way.

175. OHHHH, you don't know what you're missing! (hint: Haruhi is fucking nuts. And she gets called on this. Constantly.)

Re: 175

(Anonymous) 2008-07-27 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
I don't care. I refuse to watch something that's toted as a masterpiece when it obviously isn't. I highly doubt I'd be able to watch anything with someone as obnoxious and bitchy as Haruhi without wanting to punch my TV.

106. May I just say that using fandom-learned vocabulary like "wank" and "lulz" and "cry moar" outside of a fandom setting may garner strange looks. Fandom's like its own world with its own lexicon.

107. Not every multi-sibling family is OBHWF.

110. Get videos from Youtube and download a FLV converter.

111. I'm shocked to see that you forgot Iago/Othello. Shocked.

114. Good luck is all I'm saying.

115. I think most Twilight-dislikers have pointed out that Bella is Stephenie Meyer's self-insert. Also, I know of several people over thirteen who love Twilight. But... did you even read the book? You said "heard about," which implies you haven't read it. No offense, but you seem to dislike it only because it's en vogue to hate Twilight (at least on LJ, home of everyone's favorite amateur writerfen).

As much as I dislike what I'm currently reading (Twilight is not a fun book to slog through), at least read the first book (if you haven't) so that you have license to bash it.

121. A wise-cracking Sicilian mother? Not bad, not bad. Requiescat in terra pax, Estelle. <3

137. Pirate!Sophia!! What episode was that?

140. THANK YOU SO MUCH

They're probably obvious to what, one or two people? Not to me. Not to many.

143. I wish more people (myself included) were like you.

161. I was not disappointed with Mr. Eckhart at all. It kind of sucks that he's going to be overshadowed by Heath (though Heath certainly deserves the attention--he earned it), because Aaron's performance was my second-favorite. Watch him in Thank You For Smoking. He's gewd.

173. I think that literature majors would be the type to dislike this book the most. From what I've seen, it's writers who hate Twilight.

Keep writing fanfic!

188. Fandom is a cruel mistress.

107. My sister and I have a strained relationship. On that respective, you're not missing out on much.

121 and 137. I was incredibly sad upon hearing about her death. Whenever I catch it I watch this show above all else, and I adore Sophia. :(

144. I don't even watch this show and I want to hate both pairings because of their fans.

125. Keep watching. It gets awesome. Until the first song, I was super bored with it, but as the story plays out, it gets more entertaining.

130. I not only remember those books, I'd hit it like the fin of an angry cod.

155. I think the most shocking thing about Heath's Joker was not only that he was outrageously alluring despite being completely apeshit, but that more importantly, he pulled off a monologue in a skirt. In a skirt. I simply have no words for how much that impressed me.

(Anonymous) 2008-07-27 01:26 am (UTC)(link)

Don't worry/secretly revel in relating to Joker too much, babes. Everyone relates to the Joker. Some of us more than others. Everyone has a piece of them that "wants to see the world burn." That's what makes the Joker so attractive and so terrifying and so utterly powerful of a character. Everyone has a piece of them that is the Joker. The Joker is the embodiment of that part of us. All of us, in some amount, have a bit of Joker. So I wouldn't get too wrapped up in it if I were you.

143: I agree with you. More people enjoying his work? That's a good thing, isn't it. (And God, I really do miss him so much.:( )

147: Because alternate Pete isn't a Time Lord, someone who would never ever be able to settle down and make babies. Plus Rose had just said she didn't want him, and Ten had just said he was dangerous. The whole thing is so creepy.

154: I wonder if I know who this is... I agree - when I want to debate its great but when I don't the desire to nitpick drives me up the wall!

155: You and 136 need to talk, clearly. :D

158: I do this too, so often. (Although not with The Dark Knight, I've got to be honest.) I think person a is interesting and person b is interesting, hey! wouldn't it be interesting if they had sex?

165: Me too. (Except for the bit about liking DT. I have nothing to make me feel better!)

Trust me, you're not alone in this. Throughout the hospital scene and his speech to Harvey, I believed him completely. At, "Even if the plan is HORRIFYING," I laughed and nodded in agreement before I could catch myself. When I walked out of the theater, I was shaking. I felt like there was a monster under my skin. That was not a good night for me.

And something else: I couldn't believe the ferry scene. The man on the civilian boat who took the detonator in his hands, talking about how "they had their chance"? I know That Guy. I've met That Guy. Hell, some of my relatives are That Guy. In the real world, he would have turned the key and never looked back.

175. How is Haruhi a Mary-Sue? And furthermore, how would you even know having never seen the show? Haruhi has more flaws than both of the other main female characters combined. She's pushy, loudmouthed, spoiled when she doesn't get her way, has random mood-swings, couldn't give a damn about the feelings of other people and has serious problems with expressing her own in a constructive manner.

I'm sorry, but that does not spell out Mary-Sue to me.

(Anonymous) 2008-07-27 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
It does. Most Mary Sue's are like this and yet in self-insertion fics, the characters usually love the Mary Sue without rhyme or reason. In Haruhi's case, they only hang out with her because she might destroy the world if they piss her off. Haruhi is a Mary Sue because she has that much sway over people.

125. But... but... but...
143. I know. I hate the bandwagon jumpers too. To be fair, I jumped on around A Knight's Tale, then jumped off, then jumped back on around Brokeback Mountain (oh, what a beautiful movie!) and The Bros. Grim. I never got involved with the fandom, and thank god for that. But that's not important... a brilliant, talented light has been extinguished; he can no longer illuminate us with his performances. I can't get over the fact that he's gone.
147. That's true. Why haven't I thought of that...

Ever heard of emulators (http://www.emuparadise.org/index2.php)? I used it to play the game. The manga was good too, but it skipped over some stuff.

Re: 104

(Anonymous) 2008-07-28 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I was thinking about it. But I'm never good at using computer controls over the actual playstation controls. I usually never resort to using emulators due to that. :(

I guess that's all I can do. And if you've done it and played it, I guess I'll have to get used to the controls on a PC.
