#140-- Whenever I see "obvious poster is obvious," I have *no clue* who that person may be. Most of the time I don't know what fandom they're talking about. (otoh, there are a couple of secrets in this post alone that make me say O HAI (fill in blank).) Personally I don't believe it's said out of ego, but that they don't really feel they have any privacy anymore, even in an anonymous internet comm. The terror of exposure makes people act very defensively sometimes.

#149-- "What Would Bernard Do?" bumperstickers are only a cafepress visit away. ;-)

#170-- I've never heard of these books, but now I have to track them down. Excellent pimpage, anonymouse!

#171-- IAWTC. Yes! People flail so much about these goddamned books, you'd think they destroyed their ancestral village or something. Have you noticed that anything in fandom that's huge and attracts an enormous (mostly female) following, it's the end of the world?

#182-- I have no idea who this is, and this's still the funniest secret ever.

(((188))) That happens a lot. That's no consolation I know, but you know, the best stories in fandom are not always the ones that get all the comments.

If it's any consolation at all, most of the best writing in my fandom gets little recognition, and people literally froth at the mouth over any and all porn. I can't explain it either, but I can assure you that there are many fans out there who want a little more substance to their fics, and you probably made them very happy by delivering it. The amount of comments a fic gets is in no way proportionate to the quality of the writing.

what's sad about this comment? so many fans bitch, complain and moan there are no gen fics out there and yet when presented with them, make no effort to even comment on them.

I know I've seen this happen quite often in my fandoms. I know these gen fans are reading because I'm on their mailing lists and comms, too and yet for all their whining, they never comment.

125. The first act is the weakest. It's not the best thing ever by far but it's watchable for the 40 minutes that it takes up, and the songs in parts 2 and 3 will earworm you, and seriously, give it a chance. It's only half an hour of your time.
144. I'm lucky. All the fanservice they got in the last week of eps was what made me ship them and I haven't really touched the fandom at all. They just work so well together.
160. Most people have that one person of the opposite orientation from them that they'd ride like a pony. The fact that your girlfriend would kick your ass over this is kind of disturbing.
174. Read anything by TrudiRose on the Pit. Especially 'Picture This'.
175. Uhm...do you even know what a Mary Sue IS? Haruhi is probably the furthest from perfect I can imagine a heroine being, and only ONE guy likes her. ONE. And he doesn't even realize it yet.

140. Yes, this. I know it usually means 'obvious to the people who know the fandom!' or 'obvious to my friends!' but it really does fucking annoy me. If it were more like 'My friends will all know who this is!' or something, it'd be okay, but people just go 'obvious secret poster is obvious' and I think, really? 175. Yeah, the one thing I think Haruhi really could have done so much better with is the art. Seriously, Noizi Ito, lern2differentfaces.

But Mary Sue? I really think that word is thrown around a lot nowadays, and I don't think it really means anything much anymore. For example, Lelouch from Code Geass scores ridiculously high on those Mary Sue Litmus Tests, but he's still a very interesting protagonist to follow. 'I don't like x series because y character is a Mary Sue' is... kind of a silly reason.

188. Ugh, I hate when that happens. I remember I actually participated in a fic fest once and I spent about a month on the fic for my giftee. I poured my heart and soul into this fic and I was honestly more proud of it than any fic I'd ever written. When my fic was posted I was super excited to wait and see the reaction of my giftee... and it never came. Even after the reveal, the person I wrote it for never even commented. I was devastated and yes, I cried too. Sometimes people just don't realize how much heart and soul goes into fics. If it's any consolation, though I didn't read yours, I commend you for your hard work. :)
