118) Nono, that's Kim Manners playing sockpuppet. And then telling them about Wincest.

And that is only half made up...

175 The anime actually is pretty good - it helps that it's all told from Kyon's point of view so when Haruhi ends up getting bizarre... he comments on her getting bizarre. And she's just cracked out enough to be a good Mary Sue. ;)

What's worse is that when I went to go see TDK the second time around with my cousin, after the movie, she turned to me and said, "Minus the shit getting blown up and people killed, he could be you."

I mean, everyone around me knows that I'm pretty unstable as it is, so people tend to shy away from me, and when I watched him onscreen, I fell pretty hard.

The speeches he made are the same things I tell people everyday, I'm always rattling off about how it is in our nature to drag everyone else down to get ahead, or for our own benefit.

Plus the psychological torment, I've gotten really good at getting in peoples heads and putting the pressure on them, purely for my own amusement.

And for the run time of that movie, I was okay with myself.

Viva la freak.

Well, part of the draw is the whole dramatic reveal of Two Face when the transformation actually takes place. It'd be kinda silly to reveal it and spoil the anticipation in the promo pics. :/

165 - I am not over the loss of Nine either. I want Ten to regenerate back into Nine somehow. It's either that or Terence Maynard (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0562793/) for Eleven (his portrayal of Van Helsing in Young Dracula reminds me so much of Nine; he'd be perfect...)!

I think TDK has made some people more batshit insane. Must be the whiplash.

115. ... Step into Bella's shoes? I know the book was written in 1st person POV, but it was less like being 'in her shoes' and more like standing next to her and thinking "WTF R U DOIN?"

And I'm going to see the movie. If it bombs, I'll laugh and probably be an insufferable pain in the ass. If it's good, I can go out the movie theater feeling impressed and satisfied. Either way I win.

112 - I love his music, I really do, a lot better than 80% of today's popular music.

115 - There is a writer in my country who has published 20+ books. They sell so well that it's almost impossible to find any of her older writings. The bad part? The heroine and the hero are the freaking same in every book, just different names and sometimes different hobbies. I still have read almost all of her books because they are entertaining crime stories. But I don't consider her all that a great writer because of the character thing.
A bit of the same goes for Twilight and Stephenie Meyer. Yes, she probably based Bella on herself, which probably is the effect of writing while imagining to be her, and a lot of people make this "mistake". Stephenie Meyer doesn't have the fantasy of JRR Tolkien or Arthur C. Clarke, she didn't make up a whole new world. She is anything but the greatest author out there, and I think it's pointless to get mad over fans who think so - there are people like that in EVERY fandom. But on her level, may I say so, I think she wrote a quite enjoyable book.
As for Bella, I don't think she is a Mary-Sue. She is kind of a blunt character which makes it easier for readers to imagine what it's like to be her, but I always loved her honesty in the books. As for the "she is the most beautiful girl and everyone loves her!!4!" - when I first read the book, I wasn't completely okay with this, either. But somewhere, in an interview Stephenie told that she based that on personal experience: being the "new girl in town", from a completely different world, boys are interested in the strange new being, while girls get naturally jealous because the girl is in the center of attention. There are countless examples of this, but that doesn't make it any less true.
But again, what I'd like to point out? Yes, there are young girls with less reading experience who think Stephenie is the new God and Twilight is their Bible, but that doesn't stand as the opinion of the whole "fanbase". There are many, way more despicable things that are overly popular than Twilight, and I'm tired of everyone throwing their popularity-hate on it. Yes, I've read all of the books and loved them. It was a great emotional experience for me, and I've never reading anything alike in while so it was special for me. Today, most of the love stories have a great physical focus and happen fast, on whim. Reading about a story where the relationship didn't start with a kiss was interesting for me. I don't think this makes Stephenie an outstanding author, but I still like the book.
Others don't. That's completely NATURAL, it's impossible to have something everyone likes. I can even accept the critiques at the quality, if it's well thought out, not hate fuelled. Not everything has to be perfect to be enoyable. I don't watch American Pie because I want to see a complex story with deep thoughts, I watch it because it's entertaining. And, in a completely different way, Twilight is entertaining for me, too. I don't think this makes me a bad person at all.
As for judging a book by the bashing and then writing a hate secret without even reading the book? I don't think that's any more mature.
Sorry for the long rant. I felt like answering, you know, so this is not only directed at this particular secret poster.

140 - Ahh, nice one. :)

145 - You can't even imagine how happy that little side-comment made me. :) Good luck with your novel!

158 - Being one of those "kind of fed up with the random slash" people, I'd like to thank you for writing this, it's really interesting to watch them from this perspective!

166 - Please tell me where is the top left panel from! me = idiot obsessed with graphics

175 - How do you know she is a Mary-Sue if you didn't watch it? I don't love Haruhi as much as the great fandom does (I've watched the show out of pure boredom), but I think she is anything but what we usually call Mary-Sue, considering she is a kind of self-absorbed, spoiled, ignorant and many bad things you may want.

115

[identity profile] yasdnil723.livejournal.com 2008-07-27 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you for this comment. I completely agree. The books are far from being the best in the universe, but (contrary to what people outside the fandom believe) most fans know this. The amount of anti-Twilight secrets out there is disheartening. There's a ton of popular stuff out there that I hate but I don't feel the need to make a secret about it, nor do I judge people for liking those things. Liking or not liking something does not make you a better, smarter, etc. person. That's what irks me the most about all these anti-Twilight secrets.

111. Of course he wouldn't mind. And I say this as a staunch non-slasher. I mean, most of those don't do a thing for me, but I'm convinced Antonio/Bassanio was angsty, one-sided canon. (Same for Lancelot/Jessica. Seriously, where is the fanfic for that one? Especially after the movie with Mackenzie playing it up perfect?)

112. He's terrifying, but his music was alway good stuff.

125. I'm almost confused by anyone giving up on it after "With My Freeze Ray." I mean, everyone likes different things, but...adorkable, sexy villian who can sing plus Nathan Fillion!

134. There are still people out there who obsess over MT? I'll go and read it every now and again (if you let it pile up for a year, the action almost seems reasonably paced), but more for nostalgia than anything else. I think he draws well enough to get the point of action and character across (which is limited enough anyway), but the "lovely" things...well. His architecture's good...

143. You kind of made me tear up a bit. The only thing I hate about the post-mortem fame is that it's tricky to seperate the "He was so great" from "He's great because he's dead" vibe. But really, most of the secret could've been mine.

147. The best example I can think is that Alt-Jackie and Real-World-Pete aren't still alive, while the Doctor is. It's just a bit weird.

149. Who is that? So familiar...

165. You speak the truth!

185. How arrogant? Not half so arrogant as the people who take it upon themselves to tell you how to spend you time and talents--as if the latter were a finite resource at that!

147: Well, Jackie/Alt!Pete was pretty forced and stupid, too, I'll definitely give you that. But Rose/CloneDoctor was so, so much worse. I mean, at least Jackie didn't tear down the walls of a universe because she wasn't over her dead husband. And at least she wasn't all "Pete, tell me I'm pretty and I'll love you FOREVERRRRRRRR!"

156: I loved Dr. Horrible. I really, really did. And I liked Buffy and Firefly and Angel, too. But. Joss? In charge of all super hero things? God, please no.

[identity profile] femaelstrom27.livejournal.com 2008-07-26 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Er, Rose didn't tear down the walls of the universe; they were weakening because of what the Daleks were doing. That's how I read it anyway, from the dialogue at the beginning of The Stolen Earth.
"So... I just met Rose Tyler?"
"Yeah."
"But she's locked away in a parallel world."
"Exactly. If she can cross from her parallel world to your parallel world, then that means the walls of the universe are breaking down, which puts everything in danger. Everything. But how?"

That definitely doesn't imply that it's Rose breaking down the walls. Also, she didn't cross universes "because she wasn't over the Doctor," she did it because um, the universes were in danger. No offense, but maybe you should try watching the episodes a little more carefully.

Also, when did Rose ever ask the Doctor to tell her she was pretty? That doesn't even make sense...
