I kinda agree with all three of them, though *lol* But especially with 104! The man is a genius. Period.

Wait! So... it's only *after* you start reading and find out that the author is female that you decide you don't like something? So, even if it was good and you enjoyed it, the fact that a woman wrote it omg! suddenly makes it bad? ILLOGICAL.

You do realize that many 'male' authors are acually pseudonym's of female writers? Way to support the ridiculous notion that male writers are somehow superior to female ones. *rolls eyes*

Mm... ridiculous, un-founded bias.

Well, at least you're (somewhat) honest about it.

You do realize that many 'male' authors are actually pseudonyms of female writers?

138. I can see someone saying that if you generalize hating female characters as a whole, real or not. There's got to be at least one female character out there you would like otherwise, yeah, it does sound a bit like you're being sexist by not giving them a chance.

174. Is that Futurama? What episode was this? I wanna see it so I can understand the context of this one.

Re: 174

[identity profile] kinosino.livejournal.com 2008-08-16 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Uh, the episode where Zoidberg commits the faux pas of eating the Earth flag, thus creating an interplanetary incident. Anyway, his lawyer was some polygamist guy who eventually got killed (skewered with a flagpole, as I recall), and the chick pictured was a daughter of his, mourning his death.

...this is all off the top of my head. Heh.

126: Looking at your examples: Maybe if you tried, well, good writers? I'd love to give you as many recs as you could handle.

138: Usually, it has to do with how most of it seems to come from a double standard in how characters are approached based on gender than treatment of specific female characters.

Okay, okay, you can like the pairing. I can see where people get it if they change a few canon things around.

First of all, a narrator and an author are NOT the same thing--

You know what? Fuck it.

Take a class or something. Read some books for grown-ups. Quit being ignorant. And stop setting us back a hundred years. Seriously.

Seriously.

Butler can't sing anything close to well enough to be convincing as an 'angel of music' who tutors an opera singer. Rossum was similar to Brightman in that they both confuse staring at a fixed point in the distance with acting, but Christine is 20 or 21 in the novel not a 16 year old. Oh yes and the Phantom is like 50. Have you even read the book? No I didn't think so, dumb of you to mention it then wasn't it?

I couldn't care less about Crawford. Franc D'Ambrosio is my Phantom.

Re: 101

[identity profile] cdaae.livejournal.com 2008-08-16 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, indeed.

I find the way these people always whine about Crawford and Brightman very tiresome. The show's been running for 22 years, there are a fuck of a lot of people who've played those roles. Some of them are even available on cast recordings. Thinking Butler and Rossum were miscast and not much good in the roles does not mean thinking Crawford and/or Brightman were the be all and end all of Phantom casts.

Also, plenty of Phantom fans do like the movie, and enjoy Butler and Rossum's performances, but I've never seen any daft enough to claim they're actually accurate to the book.

The movie was my introduction too and led me to read the book, see the musical, etc. I thank it for that, but there are definitely some things I would change about it. D: Of course, is there any rendition that's considered closest to the original novel? Agreed about the film-makers, though!

138. If you hate most or all female characters, you do have issues. Why? Because most of the traits that female characters have, male characters have also. Just save yourself some face and just say that you hate most fictional characters, because if you hate a trait in a female character, chances are, it's a trait that a favorite male character of yours also has.
