146. I am one of the Heath!Joker fangirls who find him attractive. *waves* Hello. I find him attractive because of his intelligence - I mean, seriously, the man is insanely clever. However, I also find him terrifying. So I guess what I'm saying is that not everybody who finds Heath!Joker attractive wants to jump him. If he were to exist IRL, I'd run a mile >.>;;

Um... pointless rambling ftw? XD

Re: 146

[identity profile] ibroketuesday.livejournal.com 2008-08-16 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Seconded. I find him attractive for various reasons, most of which have to do with his nature as opposed to his looks, and that doesn't mean I'm an idiot; the guy is a scary mofo, and my reaction to encountering him IRL would not be "Tap that", it would be "HIDE".

103. Or not.

and we have different opinions about fandoms

That's my problem, right there! In magical RL, where it's all touchy-feely and wonderful? Nobody I know wants to talk about fandom. They want to talk about work, or their sister's boyfriend's cousin who's just split up with their boyfriend, or bloody Big Brother, or etc etc etc.

I have roughly two friends in RL, one of which is thankfully my best friend in the world, but no, I don't really get to see her that often, and I talk to her more online. The other one is...a fanbrat, for lack of a better term, and I see her even less. That's all I have in RL. Online, however, I have all kinds of friends, in all kinds of fandoms, and yes, I manage to have conversations with them outside of fandom too. I really, really wouldn't want to swap them for any of the dullards where I live, thanks.

[identity profile] eyeholes.livejournal.com 2008-08-16 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I own one too. I rarely have to speak in front of a crowd, but sometimes I wear on the chair around my neck, and when I do, I put it on sometimes and just pretend no one can see me.

..and since no one really pays attention, it almost seems like maybe I am invisible :o

101. It isn't "blaming" the actors to say they were not adequate for the roles. Guess what, I don't like Crawford or Brightman AT ALL, and I can still see and more importantly hear that Gerry and Emmy were badly cast.

103. I haven't met anyone in RL who is at all interested in fandom. I live in a small rural community where there isn't the widest choice of people to get to know, of course I prefer my online friends. I can be myself with them.

[identity profile] kryss-labryn.livejournal.com 2008-08-17 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
101. I agree wholeheartedly. I like MC, but I think John Owen Jones owns him, from what I can tell from YouTube. Brightman-- I like her albums, but the way she holds her hands when she sings just annoys the heck out of me. XD Sad, innit? ;-)

103. You, too? Wouldn't it be hilarious if we were actually neighbours? Sometimes I'm tempted to start a group up at my local library or something, but (1) I really don't have the time and (2) I'm "too old" to be messing around in fandom the way I do, and it would just be too embarrassing to try to explain to my husband why I wanted to go and meet up with a bunch of highschoolers to squee lol. Plus, I'd probably creep the highschoolers out. XD

(Anonymous) 2008-08-16 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
103. Meatspace friends can be fairweather as easily as cyberspace ones; I suspect most folks who say they like their particular Internet friends better are in this situation. Meatspace is a better medium for bonding a lot of the time, however.

126. ...uh...

138. And what creates fantasy? Reality! Or, well, people living in reality. It's often a mirror, our fiction.

Still, I usually approach it thusly: an overdose of boring women in any given work reflects more poorly on the writer or writers than on fans. Fans can't help it if the canon is deficient in some way or another.

152. You forgot us poor unfortunate souls who've never owned any Sony consoles. Really, I'd love to play the whole Metal Gear Solid series after the good things I've heard, but as it is I'll have to settle for the GameCube remake of the first. Unless a certain obscure series comes back to life as rumoured, I ain't buying no PS3.

162. Here's what I don't get: they're clearly both sapient, so... what's the big deal? Ship on, sister.

[identity profile] jaclynhyde.livejournal.com 2008-08-16 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
152. PS2s are cheap now! And it has a fantastic library of games (including a set of the first three MGS games for $30).

And what certain obscure series? Because I really need more reasons besides MGS4 to crave a PS3...

[identity profile] jlh.livejournal.com 2008-08-16 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Jeez, what's with the anti-feminist secrets today?

103 You realize that a lot of people don't have RL friends who are in fandoms at all, or even know what fandom really is, or being fannish is, and don't write fanfic or follow anime or pay attention to the canon of television shows, and can't share any of this with their RL friends? Until I met local people through fandom, I didn't have RL friends online/in fandom either. You're really lucky that your RL friends aren't laughing at you for caring to much about "some book" or "some cartoon" or "some movie." Many aren't. (Not that my other RL friends ever laughed at me; they're just not into it, but I know the RL friends of other people have.)

104 It's one of the great mysteries of the universe.

112 ♥ Aang was awesome, and totally in his own way.

124 It's one of those things where since almost everyone ships it, no one mentions it and there's no fic. Which is a little counterintuitive and sucks, but it happens a lot.

126 Um, there are books written by women with male narrators, first of all, and second, I think you're just psyching yourself out. Seriously, whatever.

128 MTV Animation SUCKS about that. Where are those, and where are the Sifl & Olly DVDs? What's wrong with you people?

135 You imply that it's normal to tell people about your sex dreams. I don't tell people about my sex dreams. Jesus, don't you people have any boundaries?

138 If it's some female characters in some places, whatever. If it's every single female character in a canon (even when there's a huge variety) or every single female character in every canon, ever, then there's a problem. And I've heard people say that on the one side the characters are too weak and lame, and on the other side that they're mary sues, and I'm like, what is with you people, that you think women's lives are unworthy of fiction?

149 Staying sane in fandom rule #5: You can't control what other people do. Let it go.

159 ♥ I love them!

169 Seriously? That is so horrible I have to laugh. I don't blame you for breaking the lamp.

174 They sound that way to you because that's what you expect them to sound like. I'm really tired of this—all feminism is, is saying that women should be treated like people. That's pretty much it. We haven't found a way to talk about the sort of "male power structure" in a way that doesn't sound, well, sort of silly, but that doesn't mean they don't have a point. Try just listening to their actual point for once.

185 Just because you're in the minority doesn't mean you're wrong. But maybe you should concentrate less on bitching out those other people and more on creating the things you like, and an environment for other people to do the same. Make your part of fandom a fun place to be and maybe you'll be able to attract a few more people to it. Work harder to find the few people who also like what you like. Create some communities. It's more work, but huddling down with the few people who think the same sort of thing is awesome is really really fun; it's one of the most fun things about small ships or small fandoms.

That said, if what you like isn't what appeals to the average 16-year-old fangirl, you're never going to have the numbers with you. That's just how it goes; they're the ones who make things really popular. But if you don't like what they like, then you're not going to want to entice them into your end of fandom anyway. Trust me.

101 I agree that ALW went random and sexed it up so much with the plunging necklines (esp when Christine was walking to father's grave; wtf?) and, like, spray-tanned Gerard and made it seem like his face was just sunburned, was neither of the actors' fault.

112. Preach it. Aang became a BAMF of the highest degree to me, in that scene. Stuck to his beliefs all the way to the end. Awesome does not even begin to describe it.

124. Huh. Maybe Harold and Kumar aren't really the LJ-peeps primary choice of movies to see. Dumb yet secretly hilarious films about stoners aren't exactly big with most fans in LJ-circles I've seen.

129. Ahahahaaaa it's a Megaman game for a prominently male fandom, nooot gonna happen. Sorry. These are things you need to remind yourself of. Us Megaman-fans must stick together, and I can't have you living in a lie, no matter how sweet it may seem.

136. The japanese... loving the het more than the yaoi? Inconceivable! Jests aside, it IS a hotblooded mechashow that probably has mostly male fans and therefore have a larger percentage of people shipping the het instead of the gay. So statistically speaking it shouldn't be that surprising?

145. Haha man, penis euphemisms. Always funny.

154. I think they just have doink-offs, and the last man standing claims the title of King. It is how those hardcore little fuckers run things, yo.

157. ... That is the sweetest secret I've seen in a long time. You are awesome for brightening my night with it, and your buddy is awesome for coming up with the idea in the first place.

n!s about Jensen, I must admit: I laughed. I don't follow the debacle, but I still think they were funny. Carry on.

Actually, half of Gurren-Lagann's fanbase is composed of females. Probably even more. Gainax themselves were surprised at this since their own GL-themed events are really crowded with young woman at times they even make most of the attendants, as was the case on the official release of the Nia Artbook.

126. Find better female authors. Also, stop being a self-hating misogynist.

154. OH GOD THAT PICTURE D:

161: Protip: it's not rape if you want it.

also, I love how you have people asking if it's Jafar or Iago, lulz. Oh internet, never change.

181. I just want to be able to find some fucking genfic for these two instead of all the stupid sappy pairing shit all over the place. Is that too much to ask?

115. Oh, wow..."ruin the Joker"? Are you kidding me? What are those people thinking? Well, whatever...we all know they're in the minority. And I agree with your secret one hundred percent.

It's possible to think Gerard and Emmy weren't that good in those roles (sorry but Butler CAN'T SING and singing is kind of IMPORTANT TO THE CHARACTER), and blame ALW and Joel Schumacher for it. Most phans DO blame ALW and Joel Schumacher for it, as well as the icky pink mess they made of the rest of the movie. Gerard and Emmy weren't the worst things about the movie, they were just the icing on the vomit-inducing cake.

IAWTC too. Particularly the bit about the cake.

I criticize the actors. I blame Schumacher and ALW.

116. Integra! ♥

134. Haruhi! ♥ (Also: Me three.)

156. The Rani! (I just watched that episode last night.)

172. That's so awesome.

185. Obvious? Not at all. I'm pretty sure everybody who bashes other fans is like this. (Also: go on and like whatever you want! Be proud!)

138. Why do you classify fandom feminists as "extremists?"

152. Naw, it's more along the lines of "I suck at action and stealth games" with me. Seriously, as much as I'd love to play the MGS games (besides the first one, which I only managed to complete after watching someone else do it first so I knew what was coming and what I was supposed to do, orz) I'm just not good enough. I don't even have any videogame-savvy friends who I could ask to play it for me. *grumble grumble*

If I got through MGS3 with Very Easy mode and an infinite ammo tranq gun, I'm sure you can too! :3
