This is gonna sound insane, but a lot of the time I put my face in my cat's face, she'll sniff my eyes. The eyes are the window to the soul, so I secretly think she's looking for my soul & searching for any new disturbances, hoping she doesn't find any.

I don't really care about Ellen most of the time but I thought it was a pretty shitty move to tweet a montage on International Men's Day that was all about "durhurrhurr sexy half naked dudes, men don't need a special day lol" when that day is about bringing attention to the ridiculous high suicide rates among men and to men's mental health. Having 5 boys/men among my wider circle of acquaintances killing themselves, I don't think it was clever, funny or in any way a "feminist" move and I think she should have apologised for it.

I entered a craft contest tonight and usually I'm in the bottom quarter of the poll but tonight I'm in 4th place! Out of 51 entries too so I am super excited but also worried that the voting will shift dramatically in the morning as sometimes happens. Just 11 hours and 15 minutes until the poll closes...I don't think I'll ever fall asleep.

I'm rolling my eyes lately at all the overwrought "pity the poor retail worker" social media posts lately. They all seem to boil down to how you need to walk on eggshells around retail workers and never ask them for anything or make direct eye contact, because it's so hard, you guys.

I worked retail for years. It sucked, especially during the holidays. I had nightmares about closing out the register and stacked sweater displays, and they were set to the damn 25-song loop of pop Christmas music that played from October until January. But it was probably only the 3rd or 4th most stressful job I've ever had and came with a nifty employee discount.

Shoppers should be polite to retail workers in the same way that you should be polite to anyone you're conducting business with. But part of being a retail worker, or any worker who deals with the general public, is putting up with the annoying bullshit that goes along with dealing with people. If that's not something you can handle, FedEx is looking for drivers.

I guess this is sort of fandom but I bought a Nintendo Switch and Let's Go! Eevee even though I can't afford them and I already have a PS4 I barely use which I couldn't afford either. I mean I'm not spending my food money and I'll be fine but I certainly could have made better financial decisions.

I don't understand people who say "Women don't make false rape claims because rape claims get backlash, not sympathy!" Because the same people always talk about how it's a common misconception that rape claims are a surefire way to put a man you don't like in jail. Why doesnt it occur to them that this is believed not just by men but also women? Millions of women could make a false claim expecting sympathy without knowing what they're in for. But saying this would imply not all women are smart and Woke, so... It's a secret.

I haven't had sex in > 4 years.

I really only lost my virginity to lose it, but now that I have, I'm kinda wary about such a long period of celibacy. Honestly, if I had it my way, I would be married by now, but I've only been on one date in the last six years. It was this summer & it was bad.

I used to be an out of control wreck and I was friends with other people like that. Sometimes I feel really guilty and helpless because I sorted myself out a bit and a lot of the people I knew didn't. I know other people look down on them for it and I wish they had more empathy because none of us started out wanting to be like that. Some of the best people I know don't know how to help themselves.

I hate it when people glorify that lifestyle. None of us were happy. It hurts seeing everyone smiling in those pictures. They don't tell the real story.

This isn’t so much a secret as a “no one cares,” but today a random guy asked me for directions when I was on my way to work, and as I was explaining that I work in the area but wasn’t super familiar with it, blurted out, “you’re really beautiful, are you single?”

If he was sincere, I feel really bad for him, because I immediately burst out laughing and sputtered “I’m probably 15 years older than you!,” and then hoofed it up the hill to work.

I wasn’t laughing at him. I was laughing at myself. The guy was either younger than me or just in really good shape, and ridiculously handsome as well, and I’ve been called a troll, to my face, way more often than I’ve been called beautiful—actually no one has ever said I was beautiful or pretty. I’m 35. I hope he was being an asshole, because if not I was an inadvertent jerk to someone who didn’t deserve it. I’m sorry terrifyingly handsome young bike rider man who will never see this, I wasn’t making fun of your interest if you meant it!

It’s just, the last time someone said anything about my appearance when I walked to work, some guy made up a little song about how I was a fat mean ugly troll and sang it every time he saw me for about eight weeks over the summer. I almost added a half mile to my morning walk to avoid him, but I didn’t want him to win, so I walked on the other side of the street most mornings, and hid in the bathroom to cry before saying hi to my coworkers.

Also I’ve mentioned this here before, but I’m pretty sure I’d be bi or pan if my brain didn’t immediately shut down any arousal with a flood of traumatic memories of every compliment on my looks I’ve ever gotten that turned out to be either not-so-secret mockery or someone gearing up for some groping, or both. It’s not fair that I can’t feel attracted to real people without also feeling fear (of them, not of the physical act of sex or arousal) and/or shame.

I wish I’d gotten some sincere compliments from people close to my own age rather than mockery from my peers, creepy come-ons by adults, and both touching me without my consent when I was still a teen and it might’ve done some good.

I’ve had pubic trichotillomania for maybe 10 years now. Every time I go to the bathroom, I can’t avoid seeing it, and seeing it gives me the urge to pull it out. I tried shaving it once, but it felt really weird and scratchy against my clothes until it grew back. It’s had minimal effect on my life, so I don’t worry about it, but I don’t think I’ve ever told anyone. Now I have.

Not super juicy, but one of my cousins came out on Christmas Eve since that's when almost everyone in the family gets together under one roof. Everyone already knew or suspected he was gay, so we were all cool with it. His mom did say that being gay didn't get him out of giving her a grandkid though.

So, I've noticed with some LGBT people, being LGBT is more of a big deal, and more of a part of their personality, than with others.

I've never made a big thing about being bi or even really told anyone off the internet, but I don't really feel "closeted." I just never really had any reason to tell anyone.

Then I see some people who have really gotten into activism, talk about it all the time on their blogs, and often, tend to say that certain things are relatable to all/most bisexual people (other than attraction to both sexes, obviously). Some of the deliberate stereotyping and jokes get on my nerves, but I definitely would not go as far as some asshole who said the only reason people make a big thing of being LGBT is that they "have no personality." That I found annoying too.

So what makes being LGBT a bigger deal to some people than others? Does it come from experiencing more bigotry? Are people more likely to do this if they tend to fit the gay/bi stereotypes?

If you are LGBT, is it something you make a big deal out of or not?

So, my sister is on this FB group of a podcast called One Bad Mother. She was talking about how she will be on maternity leave through all of the holidays and her job doesn't pay her for that. Some people asked her what she wanted to get him and to link her amazon list. Well, she had some little books/toys and such on his list but mentioned the main thing he wanted was a Nintendo Switch (not on the Amazon list). Someone PM'd her for her address so they could send her something else. She got a Nintendo Switch in the mail today from some other mother in the group!

So, yeah, feeling pretty good about people right now.
