Well, OP mentions desiring or wishing they could do it to people that they "feel deserve it," not random/all people. I was trying to point out that most people do think the same things about people they "feel deserve it," whoever they happen to be.

If they said "everyone, all the time," then yeah, sounds like intrusive thoughts they might want to get checked out. As-is though, it sounds pretty common.

Worst/weirdest takes you've seen

What're some of the weirdest, stupidest, or otherwise most head-scratching bits of fandom discourse you've seen? Brought to you by one too many "hot takes" that made it clear the poster hadn't actually watched what they were complaining about.

I'm planning on it. It's one of my life's goals.

TBH I think it's a really good example of making a serial killer charming and charismatic without making him, like, a rock star

(Anonymous) 2019-02-24 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd be more weirded out by someone who didn't at least want to or didn't think they deserved a punch in the face, than someone who did.

Well then I guess you'd be weirded out by me. I don't want anyone to be hurt. Suffer consequences? Sure. I think a child abuser or someone who tortures puppies (examples in this thread) should be imprisoned so they can't hurt anyone else, but I don't want to see them suffer. I don't think violence is generally a good solution to pretty much anything.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-24 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd guess the reason people think you're trying to be edgy isn't because nobody else ever wants to hurt people, it's this: "Hee hee you could pass by me on the street and ~never notice~ average old unassuming me, the ~potential sociopath~, which just how I LIKE it! *rubs hands together villainously, twirls mustache*" It really sounds like you'd enjoy being ~different. I don't think you are, though.

Pretty much, yeah. If you catch yourself narrating your own actions in your head and the phrase "Little did they suspect" pops in there, you just might be an edgelord.

Re: Would you murder someone if you could get away with it?

[personal profile] philstar22 2019-02-24 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope. I'm anti-death penalty. I wouldn't kill even someone who did deserve it. Not that I haven't thought about it. I've imagined murdering my uncle. And Trump and McConnell. But no, I would never actually do it.

So I just started watching Murdoch mysteries, and it is the perfect blend of history, mystery, and character.

I think fandom names, particularly book names.

Re: Question thread

(Anonymous) 2019-02-24 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Why do people drink and drive? Seriously? I get that drinking lowers your inhabitions. But I would never go near my car after even one drink. And I just genuinely don't understand the mindset of people who would.

My sister was hit by a drunk driver a couple days ago. She's fine other than bruises, but her car is totaled. Drunk drivers are the worst.

The music choices were really good tbh, I liked them all, and yeah this scene is pretty fantastic.

Re: Would you murder someone if you could get away with it?

[personal profile] nightscale 2019-02-24 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, but only one very specific person because the world would be a better place without them in it.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-24 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Same. I don't want to go and hunt people down and punish them. I do get angry that someone dared to think his (usually his) wants were more important than someone else's safety, but not in a way where I want to punish them myself.

S/O to that tumblr post mocking that bit in "Bend it Like Beckham" where Joe says that he does, in fact, know what it's like to be discriminated against for his family background, on account of being an Irish bloke in England.
All these Americans going on about how incredibly white it is, lololol, obviously he has *no* idea what he's talking about, how are Irish people discriminated against?

All unaware that a) US race relations aren't the same as UK race relations; b) The Troubles ended just four years before the film came out; and c) "Bend it Like Beckham" was directed by Gurinder Chadha, produced by Gurinder Chadha and Deepak Nayare, and written by Paul Mayeda Berges, Guljit Bindra and Gurinder Chadha.
There are zero white people on that list

They do it because they think THEY are the one person who can drink and not be impaired. Or, they just don't give a shit.

A guy wearing jeans, no shirt and a giant foam cowboy hat, pushing a completely empty shopping cart across the street late at night in downtown Los Angeles.

How is your next week looking?

(Anonymous) 2019-02-24 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Mine is going to continue to be cold.

(Anonymous) 2019-02-24 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure? I confirm you did read that correctly, I am indeed more weirded out by you, someone who doesn't think that abusers deserve a punch in the face.

Whether violence is helpful or an effective solution to anything is a wholly separate question to whether you find someone deserving of a punch or not.

I actually saw a reblog of that tumblr post with an addition informing the mockers that they had no damn idea what they were talking about.

Irish people still get treated like shit even today, honestly there is a lot of fucking awful shit directed at them, and the Welsh/Scottish that is just there as background radiation while growing up in England. Along with the usual racism as well.

It's fun.

Seeing the image first, I thought this secret was either going to be about how he died or his time dating Katy Perry.

This secret is a lot, OP. Beautiful imagery & descriptions here. I'm sorry you feel so isolated.
