SUIKODEN LOVE!

OK, so I've only played V, but if it's any indication the series really does portray women pretty well.

Re: 101

I think 3 had the best cast of females, and 5 did a great job although I really didn't like Lyon.

I'm an overweight gal myself and I cosplay.
You know, I've yet to have a bad comment. Could be because I'm always drawn to less popular series or because I tend to cosplay characters that are completely covered so that probably helps.

But when I did a Phoenix Wright cosplay? People took pictures right, left and sideways! Now who knows if that was because I have two skinny gals as my cosplay buddies or what but no one has ever called me anything rude, put me down or told me I was hideous.

Now whether my pictures have been LOL'ed at on 4chan, I'll never know.

There's always going to be people out there though laughing at you for no particular reasons whenever they can, overweight or not.

106. It saddens me a little to think that a girl needs a strap on to fuck someone, and fuck them into the ground. On the other hand, if that's what floats your boat, more power to you.

141. Adding my voice to those who say that anime is cartoons. If some anime fans get defensive about it, it's just because they've internalized the same cartoons = kiddie stuff stereotype that most of the rest of American culture has. Animation is a medium. It doesn't speak about content any more than live action or prose does. And, seriously, if adults want cartoons that speak with a bit more maturity than what their offered in our culture, what's wrong with getting it from a culture that provides?

Re: 141

[identity profile] kinosino.livejournal.com 2008-09-21 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
That, or they're worried that by referring to it as a cartoon, they risk alienating others who do believe said stereotype and will therefore dismiss it out of hand.

104) Lol. +5 for bonus panda.

116) Y'know, I've always wanted to get into Frontier, but it just doesn't seem like anyone in the fandom enjoys it. Tell me I'm wrong. I've only watched the first ep and thought it was pretty spiffy, so...

127) Lol. Would you shank his girlfriend? =P

135) Lol. 127x135 OTP.

141) Anime IS a glorified cartoon, you're right. Am I not allowed to watch cartoons, either? I'm 22, and I still watch Beast Wars, Recess, and the Magic School Bus on occasion. AM I A BAD PERSON??? D= Also, in b4 shitstorm.

162) Truth.

[identity profile] valorously.livejournal.com 2008-09-21 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
139. Mmmm. Now there's a picture I could stare at for the rest of the day.

141. Wouldn't a lot of animation be considered "glorified cartoons," then? I mean... we're talking anything Disney, Don Bluth, Dreamworks, etc. Pretty much anything animated that got some sort of acclaim, won an Oscar, got a good review.

If you are interested in American animation, does that mean you feel askew from mainstream culture, or is it just because it's Japanese? And if that's the real problem, then what about fans of Asian drama or the BBC? What about fans of foreign films?

I just can't wrap my brain around this secret. I mean, I can understand if it went something along the lines of "I think less of people who are ACTUALLY obsessed with anime (Not interested. Not fans. Obsessed.), think that SUPER-KAWAII-NIHON-JAPAN-DESU-NE is the best thing ever, try to eat everything with chopsticks, and speak broken Japanese all the time," but it's not.

109 - Just remember, fandom is supposed to be fun. For you.

116 - No, because SHIPPING IS SERIOUS BUSINESS DAMMIT. Btw, I'm a bit surprised of the intensitiy of shipping wars in this show. I mean... it's Macross for goodness' sake. o_O

121 - ...y'know, anime fan =/= weeaboo. One like anime without running around in anime T-shirts and speaking in bad fangirl!Japanese.
Not that I understand why that's a bad thing as long as it happens at anime events. I'm much more embarrassed by rabid yaoi fangirls (because they make me ashamed of liking BL) than weeaboo teenagers who will most likely grow out of this phase in a few years' time.

167 - See, I always thought "fandom" was about having fun. If someone has fun with shipping non-canon couples and whatnot - well, more power to them.

121 OP

(Anonymous) 2008-09-21 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I never said all anime fans were weeaboos. Apparently nobody actually read the fucking secret. I said that I secretly envied the crazy whacked out anime fans because at least they can be open about their interests, unlike me. Seriously go over it again and read what I was trying to say.

Too Big 9 -- Are you my twin? I've more or less been trying that for my fandom, too. There's only so much of "Pretty Boy A takes it up the ass from Pretty Boy B and Not Pretty Boy/The Stupid Bitch Woman is pissed" I can take.

Oh, !!! The only way I can get through this year is by slashing, with little stories and imagery in my head. Bailey also helped write the American Spirit, which I have to use, and his little notes in the start of every document are so endearing. It's not like everyone's gay, but maybe more Hetalia-esque... It makes history more entertaining.

What bothers me is that I seem to be the only one in my class to do this. Everyone else... somehow memorizes everything... and they think it's boring as hell.

124. Now everyone is going to Wikipedia to add their OTP.

126. :D I watch HBO's John Adams like it's porn. (I also ship Lincoln/Douglass ^_^)

175. Damn, I love Neil. Why don't I get to be his neighbor?

[identity profile] georg-vanlunden.livejournal.com 2008-09-21 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
109. Am I guilty of feeling this way, to think that 'darnit I don't like this popular pairing, can't people write more of the pairings I like?' Yes, I am. But honestly, I gotta say that OP has a point... some pairings are popular for the simple reason that they strike a chord in a lot of people as opposed to the fewer fans of more obscure pairings. Perhaps it can sting a little when you find out that the majority of fandom does not share your viewpoint, or they are vocal about something you disagree with, but at least in these matters... I can't help but to think that it's a big internet, and there's really room for all of us.

So in other words, keep on shipping what you want to ship OP. As long as you don't look down on others for shipping what they like, I don't really think there's a reason for them to look down on you.

113. If that is not a picture the OP took on their own... well, I sure as hell wanna know where you get a picture like that from.

115. Man Leeron is the shit, eh fixes mecha and isn't afraid of hitting on anyone... male in the vicinity. And is just about the only smart character on the show so all in all I don't think you have anything to be ashamed of. He be awesome.

158. That's good thinking right there buddy: he could ace Cullen like nobody's business, but ALL the fangirls? You would need someone with way more firepower and who wouldn't be squicked to hell just by breathing the same air as them. All I can say is good luck to that.

168. What is this show, a retelling of the classic Merlin tale or a 'modern take' or anything of the sort? I am sort of gar for Merlin, so I need to know these things.

170. THIS. I am in so much agreement on just about everything you say here. Sure, they get a little bit more friendlier with each other in the end and all, but really... their relationship would have houses burning down in minutes.

173. I demand links of this clip. Is it a parody of Twilight or something else?

t!b 1. ... Concurred.

t!b 5. You do that, while Mask makes me want to be a luchadore who fights for the little ones.. only not since he's really an assassin but... screw it, I just want to be Mask. Now we just need to find the Harman to our Smiths... which is something I never thought I would ever be typing out. Now I want to see someone write it in a secret, "You are the Harman to my Con" or something like that..

135. At first I was like "tl;dr"

BUT THEN I RAGED, FUCK YOU, DELUSIONAL POSSESSIVE CRAZY GIRLS ARE THE BEST

141. OH MAN, ANIME IS CARTOONS? COLOUR ME SHOCKED! I'd better stop watching it, because we all know nobody likes cartoons! ...I can't stand most of the popular TV shows that everyone else loves, but I don't look down on people who do enjoy them. People have their own tastes.

158. That has the potential be hilarious.
