Two wrongs don't make a right.

In the context of humor, I mean, it depends. I remember I used to say shitty things at other people's expense, thinking I was funny. Turned out I only pissed off a bunch of other people and developed a reputation for being an abrasive bitch. I think if one were poking fun at the things misandrists say, it might work. But I get that some people genuinely enjoy stepping on others to lift themselves up and even justify it by citing some past similar event. I have no interest in perpetuating shitty behavior, regardless of who started it first.

Is it seriously oppressive and/or morally wrong? Eh. Not really. The sexist part there is selecting only one gender; "I support human rights... to shut the fuck up" is not sexist at all for example.

Is it annoying and fuel for misogynists? Yep. If someone posts that kind of thing often then complains that they're then called misandrists and man-haters, I roll my eyes.

Swap genders and the exact same applies.

Yeah, but "I support human rights... to shut the fuck up" is also not as funny. For me that's the key thing. It's got to be funny. And it's got to be equal You can make a joke about men if you can also laugh at a joke about women.

Recently I read a manga with GL flavor where the main character's a girl finds herself in an AU world where there are only women and guys don't exist (they died off a long time ago and the guys who the main character knows from popular culture etc are all genderbent into women) and seeing some guy in the comments section of some chapter freaking out about how harmful the manga was to actual, real life guys was hilarious.

Idk man a lot of that anger I’ve seen recently is in the larger context of the Alabama and Georgia etc abortion bills, so that makes it feel more understandable (not good or productive- but understandable)

I think those things are wrong, but I don't think they are misandry because I don't think misandry exists. Discrimination requires power. Men are the one with power. I think there are ways where men are at a disadvantage, but most of them are actually rooted in misogyny (for example, the fact that men can have difficulty with child custody is rooted in assumptions that women are the ones who take care of the kids).

I don't think that example is too bad, but things like "Kill all men uwu" and calling men "trash" are different. Saying someone should shut the fuck up is just kind of mean-spirited at worst, but calling them trash who should die is dehumanizing. Men have institutional power, but this stuff hurts on an individual level. There are men who lash out against those messages (and get laughed at and called fragile) and then there are men who internalize them and start to believe they're trash who deserve to die. And that helps nobody.

If a man did something horrible and you want to vent, do it. But making those comments regularly just to be funny and cute because you know intellectually that Patriarchy Bad is disgusting.

Think of it this way: women are SO tired of being ruled over and dictated to by men that what men (and you, assuming you're not male) call misandry is simply just women reacting angrily to millenia of SHITTY TREATMENT.

I don't think it does feminist any favors, that's for sure.

I don't think "I support men's rights...to shut the fuck up" is that bad, especially when it's in reaction to something specific where men are opining in favor of infringing on women's rights. But calling men trash and saying things like "fuck all men" really sucks.

However, I also think that if a man really is the good guy most men believe they are, he should try to have a little compassion. Spend a second considering why some women are so very angry, and do his best to just let it go. Because if the multitude and variety of injustices that are perpetrated against women were to be perpetrated against men? Lets be real here, there wouldn't just be anger, there'd be bloodshed.

If it's a joke and is reasonably funny, I'm actually cool with it. I mean I'm cool with the joke... If the PERSON making the joke is someone who flips their shit about a simlar joke made towards women, then they can go fuck them-self.

Like there's some wank at the moment online about as restaurant having a sign up saying

"men are like fine wine. They begin as grapes, and it's up to women to stomp the shit out of them until they turn into something acceptable to have dinner with."

And some people are unhappy. I think it's fine. It's a joke. and reasonably funny.

BUT the people who are defending that as a joke, if they then turn around and have a problem with the joke:

"What do you tell a woman with two black eyes"
"Nothing, she's already been told twice"

Then you are a sexist. It's the same joke "Isn't it funny to be violent to men / women until they do what they're told"

It depends. My personal boundaries for walking away from the conversation are:

1. Biological essentialism, "men are natural-born cheaters."
2. Personal abuse, "Of course you're going to cheat."
3. Abuse denial, "Men can't really be sexually assaulted, because they always want sex."

So I've been thinking about the "Men can't be victims of sexism because power.

And it seems to me to be based on the idea that no harm or damage done to an individual man will ever count because the person making this statement seems to think that in this world today there is no woman with enough real power to hurt a man.

Am I missing this? Is the idea that women are too weak and ineffectual to harm any man in any way we should actually care about because all the people at the top of society are men?

Cause if so, I hate to say this, but there are some hard core sexist motherfuckers out there with a higher opinion of womens capabilities than you.
