I'm all for reinterpretations of classic stories, but I'm like 95% sure Disney made Ariel black for the live action remake because they knew it'd cause a lot of controversy and would be a way to market the movie. Doesn't make me all confident that it was done benevolently considering that the creative team behind it is overwhelmingly white and the director is a white guy who has only made movies with white leads. Diversity doesn't mean much if it's only superficial.

I'm tired of seeing so many long, steamy sex scenes on television. I have no moral objection to them but they're just so boring.

I think it's a really obvious but overlooked double standard that if a straight girl doesn't want to read or write about women because she's not attracted to them, it's shallow, but if a lesbian doesn't want to read or write about men because she's not attracted to them, it's fine.

I'm a bi girl and this secret is not "straights are oppressed" in case anyone tries to derail and pretend I'm saying that.

Piggybagging on the secret above: I'm already so damn tired about the Ariel live action wank. My whole timeline is people either complaining about it or complaining about people complaining about it. For the record: I think the latter ARE justified and I only see the former cause they get quoted/commented on. For me the only thing an actress of Ariel needs to be is a great singer. I'm just not ready for months of this.

Almost related: Also annoyed that the Rey's parentage discussion is back. Urgh.

I’m really sad there was never a third season of Galavant; I know if they’d used cgi it would’ve sucked, but I really wanted to see dragonrider King Richard. Bonus secret—I kind of ended up with a crush on Richard, even though he was a spoiled brat, a virgin (well, for most of the show), a murderer, and a total doofus.

Toy Story 4 ended with Woody leaving his friends for Bo. If the writers intended for Woody to realize that it’s okay not to continue devoting his life to one child at a time, it didn’t do a good job. If being a lost toy is so awesome why didn’t he try and get all his friends to leave too? If Bonnie loves Forky so much why didn’t he try to keep the good old gang together and persuade them since they’re destined to be forgotten too? Why is the dealbreaker Bonnie not playing with him for the third time when Andy hadn’t played with him in years?

I know Bo looks hot now and people ditch their friends for their significant others all the time but if I wanted realism I can just watch some documentary about toys instead of this movie.

i've seen the sentiment on and off in fandom that 'if i want something i should write it' and i kind of spurned the notion a bit bc it felt like a cop-out.

but after a few fandoms where there just wasn't the kind of fic i wanted i started writing my own purely for myself, and i'm having a blast! it's so freeing to write the kinds of stories i want without the pressure of others seeing them and i can be as selfish and greedy as i want. it's great!

this isn't to toot my own horn bc i don't think i'm some 'amazing' writer or whatever, i've just got pretty specific tastes so i know what i'll like best. it's just been really fun to allow myself to write whatever i want without any anxiety over sharing it with strangers.

I still play games, and defend the relevance of electronic games as a artistic medium, but I think I'm done with being a gamer.

The breaking point isn't the monthly political wank, it's the influencers. I'm not fucking interested in which popular channel has the spiciest hot takes.

I'm kind of tired of the brooding detective suffering from [mental illness] solving crimes in [novel location] with the help of a female assistant who does both her own job and the emotional work of pointing out where he needs help.

I was never able to get into the tv show, but I liked the cheesy as fuck Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie, which I guess proves I have no taste.

I know she hates fanfic (which is hypocritical as fuck because Deerskin and Outlaws of Sherwood and Beauty and Rose Daughter? Are all fanfic) but I wish someone would write proper endings to Robin McKinley’s books. So many of them just kind of peter to a halt or end really abruptly and either way they leave the stories feeling unfinished, and then she doesn’t write sequels. I love most of her stuff, but the last couple pages always feel like the book equivalent of “shit this paper’s due in an hour!”

I am going to be unreasonably annoyed if it turns out Rey is a biological child of a Skywalker

I hate that idea so much and going against it was one of the best parts of TLJ

I only enjoyed the opening credits of Do The Right Thing. I thought the ending didn't make any sense.

I can't watch cop shows anymore. Too much has come out about real life cops for me to be able to buy into the idea of cops as the good guys. Individual cops, sure. But the general environment of the police is so toxic and genuinely morally wrong that I can't put it aside anymore to enjoy the way I used to be able to. And those used to be my favorite type of shows. That goes doubly for Law and Order since prosecutors are almost as bad.

Gen 5, especially BW2, was Pokemon at its all time best and based on how things have been going since the jump to 3D, we're never going to get another gen with that much love poured into it again.

It's irrelevant what Ariel's skin colour is, the movie is going to be just as much shit as all other Disney live action remakes so far anyway.

I want to like and enjoy the Mo Dao Zu Shi live action series because so far they apparently did a good job despite all the hurdles thrown in their way by censorship. But live action dramas, especially Asian ones, always make me cringe so damn much.

"San Junipero" is overrated. While it's an entertaining piece of television for sure, I think it's otherwise a pretty boring Black Mirror episode.

Steam summer sale

I'm excited for it because this is the first time since 2015 that I've been able to afford to buy anything during the sale. So far I've gotten West of Loathing, Final Fantasy IX, and The Witcher III: Wild Hunt GOTY edition. Does anyone have any recommendations, or just want to share what they've bought this year?
