ns!1: An actual series about the Marauders? That wouldn't be interesting, you're right. Having magic powers doesn't make popular jerks any more interesting, it just makes them able to pick on the nerds from further away. No thanks.

151. You lose. Good day sir.

[identity profile] trustyoursins.livejournal.com 2008-10-20 07:38 am (UTC)(link)
I dunno, I think it's completely possible to write a series about popular (or unpopular!) jerks and make it incredibly interesting. In fact, I think it's been done before, a lot. The main thing that has to be done to make it good is to show that they are more than just jerks. Someone can be horrible to specific people and still not be an entirely horrible person.

With the Marauders, it seems like a weird balance: Remus never really seemed to be doing anything out of vitriol (as far as I remember), James was a git but knew when he fucked up, and obviously turned into a good person/wasn't an entirely bad person, Sirius had hella flaws and was probably stubbornly full of himself but has an interesting past and was obviously a good friend to those he was friends with... to be honest, I find Peter to be the most intriguing -- it would be kind of epic to see more of the kid who grew up into what he did. (I also think it would be interesting to see exactly how such good friends got to the point where they all suspected each other of the murder of one of their group.)

THIS WAS REALLY WAY TOO UNNECESSARILY WRONG. But yeah. Mostly, I'm just sayin' jerks aren't only jerks, and if they are, they're being written wrong. Any two-dimensional character sucks, whether they're a sinner or a saint.

As an aside, your icon is the most amazing thing ever. ♥

150. He's a drawing... a weird drawing. :B (But a great one. <3)

153. I like the show, but I don't consider her a feminist figure myself.

102) So long as you are both over the age of 18 and he is not a TA for your class or any class you plan on taking in the future, it's possible to have a relationship that isn't abusive, though you would have to check the schools policies. It might be better to wait until after you graduate or transfer to another school.

105) Your friend wants a bit too much for you to share her enthusiasm. You just have to be blunt -- the concept, no matter how well done, doesn't appeal to you. You have nothing against it, it's just not the kind of story you enjoy watching and that maybe you can find some other subject you can squee over together. Better yet, you can give her some DVDs of a show you enjoy and you can squee over them together.

118) You know, I'm big into slash, but their kissing always seemed somewhat awkward and inhibited to me. But then, I sometimes watch gay porn, so you know, lots of avenues for that particular brand of hotness. For real guy on guy hottness in a film you can rent at blockbusters and not be embarrassed pick up Maurice (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0093512/). That's the film I compare my guy romances to. Much better in my opinion than Brokeback Mountain as well.

106) You miss the point entirely. It's not to be better than the writer, or to have her approval, it's to take an avenue the writer didn't take while keeping everything else as similar as possible to the orriginal. There are many ways to justify a non canon ship within the bounds of canon -- post canon, precanon, spur of the moment mistakes, secret double lives, you name it. It's fun.

121) Oh what the hell, give it a try. Makes guys happy.

126) You have no idea how hot many men find a dominant woman. Really, it's extremely common -- and many who don't have it as a fetish are still willing to go along with what you want as long as sex is involved. Upshot, guys are really not that hard to convince when it comes to sex.

139) THIS

151) Troll.

153) I've yet to see a fictional woman good enough for fandom feminists. Seriously, is there any fictional woman out there who you can find no fault in -- who you can point to and say, "there is an example of how women should be depicted"?

Lol! Is it bad that the phrase "Doin' it in the butt" cracks me up?

Anyway, I absolutely agree. I never really understood the whole Kurama/Hiei fandom honestly. But still, there are no good fics out there that aren't about them as a couple.

I'd love to read some awesome Kuwabara fics if you write them or find them any where.

Not really. He just couldn't cope with van Gogh's epilepsy and the sometimes bizarre things van Gogh would do around the times of his episodes (ie, cutting off his ear). But they had a pretty interesting albeit short-lived relationship.

This is interesting. As a writer and an RPer, I've never once claimed to understand the characters better than the original creator, and I know for a fact that I don't.

My ships are almost never canon ships. If I could see/read my pairings in the original context, I wouldn't bother with fanfiction: the original fiction is already providing.

This is the thing: with characters, I take into consideration what I know about them and also what I don't know about them. Almost any character has an unanswered question (usually more than one) about them, and I try to answer them with what I find most logical. Am I going to get all of these right? It's highly unlikely, therefore, no, I do not know the character more than the original creator.

I personally don't confine myself to the terms IC and OOC. I've never liked things that were set in stone. I do my best, however, to try to keep the characters in context with what we see in the series. Taking into consideration what I mentioned, does that mean it's always going to be "IC"? Probably not. Ultimately, my thought process when writing for characters that are not mine is to make them believable and realistic, and that's worked well for me so far.

Stupid is as stupid does. As petty as a subject as fanfiction and RP may be, you're entitled to your own feelings and for whatever reason. At the same time, it probably wouldn't hurt to try and be more open minded and less presumptuous.

[identity profile] smartamy15.livejournal.com 2008-10-20 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
148. Which episode is that from???

[identity profile] rktikfox.livejournal.com 2008-10-20 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
129. I agree with you 100%.

131. OHGOD. His sexy, Federalist ass got me through my Summer reading for AP US History.

137. Uhm, I would totally read your fics! Anything that isn't Hiei/Kurama is okay by me, really. And those are things that I would seriously like to read. ;A;

147. No, that means the series is awesome, over-dramamtic 90's animu (PLUS GUNDAM). If you can't laugh at it and love it at the same time you're either in denial or too pretentious for a sense of humor. Don't feel bad.

HOLY CRAP I LOVE THAT THIS SECRET IS BRINGING ALL OF THE HAMILTON LOVERS OUT OF THE WOODWORK.

I've had a crush on him since eighth grade and, while I wouldn't exactly "hit that," I feel so understood reading all of the comments that concur with this secret.

*dabs at eye* :')

110. MICHAEL KEATON FTW!

112. :|

114. Original? No. Hilarious? Fuck yes.

135. Out of all the deaths in Buffy, her's probably upset me the most.

148. The secretive and awkwardly romantic relationship? That would be epic.

153. Despite being someone who can pretty much be considered the opposite of a feminist icon, she does go through a lot of the same problems regular girls do only with monsters, yet she pushes through and generally doesn't let people push her around... much. It's a very difficult subject, but she really represents that no matter how you may act, dress, think or speak, you can still be a strong and positive rolemodel for others.

159. Boba Fett had goals and mystery to him that were later canonically expanded on... Either way: I FUCKING LOVE THE FETT.

104 & 119

104 - Sadly, that is true in every fandom. Especially on the internet. But, if it's any consolation, they're my favorite band and I definitely have a mentality greater than a 12 year old.

119 - ME TOO and I have for awhile now. Among other pairs of artists, but they're possibly my favorite.

137

[identity profile] bella-reeve.livejournal.com 2008-10-20 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
I wish there was more fan love for Kuwabara. He's not hot, so the fans forget about him and write H/K porn (which I hate anyway. I love Kuronue too much to ship them). Everyone makes Kuwabara stupid but he's loyal and brave and why are there so few good fics about him? -_-

Re: 137

[identity profile] pwnmastersaurus.livejournal.com 2008-10-20 05:08 am (UTC)(link)
He's not hot

See, this is what gets me. He's not a pretty boy by any stretch of the imagination, but even so, I think Kuwabara's pretty damn hot. Am I the only one? I can't be the only one. ;_;

Mods: Out of curiosity... why post the secrets that don't meet the criteria? Like the not!secrets, not!fandoms and too bigs... they're still being clicked on. You know they are. So therefor it's not really a punishment, and no one is learning from their mistakes. Why not just ignore the ones that don't meet the criteria, instead of posting them anyway in an almost highlight sort of fashion?

Am I the only one thinking this?

(Anonymous) 2008-10-20 10:23 am (UTC)(link)
I've wondered that as well. Maybe it's because people would just think a mistake had been made and simply resubmit their secret?

[identity profile] trefenwyd.livejournal.com 2008-10-20 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
104. You are not alone. I dropped all my Beatles fandom communities because I couldn't handle the bullshit anymore.
