Eh, well he's a supporting character. They don't need to have any more depth than is necessary to fulfill their plot function - he's like the friend in a romantic comedy who exists entirely to talk to the main character about her man troubles or whatever.

Plus, I think latching on to characters who are just defined enough to have a skeleton but not defined enough to have any offensive or annoying qualities is just a thing fandom does. Boba Fett is a great example of that. Personally, I don't think there's anything wrong with liking Matt as long as one realizes that they're liking an idea, or specific variation(s) on an idea rather than a full character.

Dear 140,

I cried harder at Kitan's death than anything in TTGL. I cried for 2 days. I didn't cry at all when Kamina died.

I've never called Kittan a "Kamina-copy". And if it wasn't for Kittan the Gurren Brigade wouldn't have made it past episode 8. He picked up the slack between Kamina's death and when Simon was able to step up again. As much as i hate to quote Yoko (since i really don't like her), he pushed the Gurren Brigade from the bottom. He did all of the real muscle work and he wasn't afraid to do it when it needed getting done.

Kittan was a rad dude and i would give anything to be one of his sisters.

130. There's nothing at all wrong with being enthusiastic about what you love, as long as you have the courtesy to let other people (het or femslash fans, et cetera) do likewise. As far as mood-altering substances go, slash is definitely on the cheaper and healthier end of the spectrum.

106-What a bizarre thing to say. If you like reading fanfiction that's only canon couples fine, but why should that one aspect of fanfiction be wrong? People don't have to think they know a character better than the author to write non-canon pairings, and besides *everything* in fanfiction is doing things outside of canon. That's the point of fanfiction.

146 - Rule 63 FTW <3 Genderswitch can do wonders for the dynamics of a character/pairing, and in literature archetypes have been used and repeated since the dawn of time. I don't think it's wrong at all to try to mimic some stuff in your original fiction. Just take care to, you know, keep it original instead of heavy-AU.

106 - Look, babydoll, you don't have to like it. Go right on ahead and just read fic or play/watch RPs where the only pairings are canon. However, it's not cool to insult people just because they're interested in pairings that aren't canon. Some people have the creativity to see other possible pairings as feasible. Not everyone likes the canon pairings. Part of the fun of fandom is exploring things that don't happen in canon, or expanding on potential that you actually like.
