103: ABSOLUTELY!!! And it's completely MUTUAL because John has ALWAYS been more "at ease" with Rodney than with ANYONE ELSE, even moreso than Ronon and/or Teyla.

110: OMG YES!! Michael Keaton was sufficiently angsty and dark to be Batman IMO. He'll ALWAYS be Batman to me!!

Re: 103, 110

(Anonymous) 2008-10-20 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
OP here.

I also agree that it's completely mutual, but up until recently I've always viewed John of being a bit more blatant about the dept of his feelings for Rodney than Rodney is about his feelings for John. I think John (regardless of all his hang ups and regardless of the fact that it could get him into trouble) is more open about it and more familiar with the idea, and I see Rodney as being a little harder to come to terms with it. But if having gay characters on a TV show didn't put so many people up in arms (yes, even today), I think it would have a fair chance of being canon and that Rodney would eventually stop denying and him and John would work things out.

This episode did a lot to convince me I was just being a fangirl, and that yes it was there, and yes it was COMPLETELY mutual.

115) Lol, same here. Every time I hit "Save image", a little pang of shame courses through me.

120) A story that doesn't really connect with your secret, but I feel like sharing, anyways. I just started med school. A few weeks ago in one of our small-group sessions with a faculty mentor, we were talking about how we (peers and faculty) totally can't read for pleasure anymore. All of us have spent so much of our lives and our "reading time" reading heaps of academic literature that we have no will to actually sit down with a book and read for pleasure once everything else is done. It's kinda sad, really, considering the reason why we all made it as far as we did pretty much stemmed from our childhood love of reading.

tl;dr: Science education kills one's love of reading.

131) He was kinda a jerk. However, national banks are sexy. It's a trade-off.

106. Eh. I went through the phase. The trick to getting over it is realizing that they're not trying to trump authorial intent: Writing a romantic fic isn't the same thing as saying "This is canon/should be canon."

I get your frustration, but I also think that you aren't really looking at it the right way if you think that the simple act of roleplaying or writing a fanfic is implying canon.

107. That is a sexy, sexy picture.

101. G'Kar = Alien Jesus. Awesome alien Jesus. Trufax.

106. A lot of people write such fanfiction precisely because it will never happen in canon, and they want to explore scenarios and possibilities where it would. Hell, even some of my fic for pairings that are canon, or that I think will be, is very much a "nothing like this will ever actually happen in canon" thing. The fun of fic like that is putting an existing character through situations she's never in during the canon--be they other romances or something entirely different.

Of course, there are those people who write non-canon pairing fic because they believe that it's the true way the story should have gone and is better than whatever the stupid author who's been so meeeean to their pure innocent fandom baw baw baw came up with. But, you know. Ignore them.

126. You'd be surprised. Try reading Savage Love sometime. :}

130. There isn't anything wrong with that. The reason most people react badly to such things is that they're often paired with annoying behavior such as chasing people with yaoi paddles, throwing vitriol at female characters for "getting in the way," and shrieking about how much het sucks. In and of itself, fangirling over yaoi and liking pairings for their hotness isn't anything bad.

That said, if you don't think there's anything wrong with all this, why the hell is it a secret?

140. Kittaaaan. I just want more Kittan/Yoko love. ;_;

103: I agree. It won't ever be official canon but there's a huge amount of chemistry between the two.

113: Can you tell us what your boyfriend really thinks of him?

118: Our society idealises romantic love to a ridiculous extent, so it's not surprising that many people feel that reality will never live up to fiction. I've heard women say that they feel they'll never have true love/ a hot sex life like it's described in romance novels.

121: ... Whoa. That's hot.

142: Tosh ;__;

156: That's pretty cool :)

OP speaking.

103. Glad to see people agreeing. I don't expect it to become officially canon and never have, but I've finally admitted to myself that yes, it is my personal canon and even outside that, although it might never be said or even explored further than the subtext we've been given, I do feel it's there.
