Justifiability

So today I saw that someone had dropped a note on my desk with the word "smile" on it.

Is stabbing justified?

(Actually, I'll probably just ignore it because if it's for real, then it's rather sad that someone is so bothered by the fact that I don't smile enough for their liking that they leave lame notes on my desk.)

Really annoying. They might've meant to cheer you up rather than command you to put on a happier expression but honestly, people are so clueless. If I wanted to cheer up a coworker, I'd give them a genuine compliment or do something nice for them, not just tell them to look happy.

I know everyone is sort of against 'teaching moments' (and some groups for good reason), but personally, if you know who it is, use it as a teaching moment. Assume they meant well and were trying to cheer you up and lead with that, but explain the issues behind basically commanding someone to smile.

If they're an idiot in response or continue to do it... then stab them.

It might have been one of those "drive-by" mood lifters, people trying to put more love in the world. Unless you never smile at work/school- then I'd take it personally. ;)

So someone left you a note with the word 'smile' on it, nothing else? And you're this offended by it? Not everything has to be vindictive or ill-meaning, they might have actually been trying to do something nice.
Best response is to give a little smile (doesn't have to be real) and put it in your desk, so if someone's watching and trying to be an asshole (which I doubt, since it only says 'smile', 'smile more', or something of that kind would be the more obvious choice) it just puts them in the more uncomfortable position, and if they're being genuine it might even make their day. Kill 'em with kindness, I guess.

I am feeling too many emotions and too much vulnerability and I hate it and I hate that I hate how worked up I get about emotions and how uncontrollable they are

This is killing me right now. So, job interview went well. Job would be for a year in Guatemala if I got it. Still not a sure thing, but I'm on to the next stage of interviews. If I pass the next stage, I've got the fellowship.

I've realized that if I get this and take it, I'll have to leave my cat with my parents for the year. It just wouldn't be fair to make her make that move for a year, to a strange place, to a tiny probably one room apartment with no porch at such a high elevation (will be enough of an adjustment for me), and she's never flown before. I don't know what the vet or the food situation would be. It just wouldn't be fair to her. This is her home, and I just can't do it to her.

But she's my family. She's my best friend. And she's become such an important part of my mental health. Since figuring out the truth this morning, I've already been stressing about this all day. How am I going to do this. I was apart from her for a month when I was in Mexico and it was hard. A whole year? How can I possibly do that? There are days where the only reason I get out of bed is because I need to take care of her. There are days where the only thing that puts a smile on my face is her. The idea of being without her that long is terrifying.
