Ariel/Ursula and Ariel/Eric

Ariel grows up in a little farming town but desperately wants to go to the big city. When she hears that Ursula -- chastised by the religious town for 'improper' berhaviour -- is moving, she begs the woman to take her too. Ursula agrees, for a price: Ariel must work for the bar that her friend owns. Ariel doesn't care and signs the contract, only to find when she gets there that it's actually some seedy strip club -- but she's signed the contract and can't back out now. She meets Eric when he's bought there by friends for his 21st birthday and it's love at first sight, but can he rescue her?

tl;dr: AU where Ariel is a country girl longing for the city but gets caught up in the seedy underworld instead.

Nervous about this, but I really want to improve my writing since my muse has finally come back, and I'm working on a longer thing. So, this is the first fic I've written in about 2 years. It features Celebrimbor and Sauron during Celebrimbor's captivity. No torture in the fic, but mentions of (particularly in last paragraph). It was really more of a character exploration thing. Just a lot of Sauron mind games. Not everyone's cup of tea I know, and feel free to ignore this.

I'm writing a somewhat self-indulgent Harry Potter marriage law AU with Blaise/Hermione as a main pairing. I haven't introduced the side pairings (Draco/Ginny, Harry/Katie, and Ron Millicent) in any depth, though. I am running out of steam because I'm not sure where I should take it's plot next, or if the pacing is too slow. It's 12 chapters, 20k words, and in-progress. I'm feeling a little desperate for feedback because the only reviews I've received so far are deeply unhelpful.

Peter Pan. I'd like more creepy versions where Peter Pan isn't necessarily a good guy as well.

Just like general fantasy races in the modern world. Like our technology and world, but we live alongside elves/dwarves/etc (maybe elves have their own dimension that uses magic the way we use technology or something). IDK. Just I'd love to see classic fantasy things in the modern world. Or a futuristic world too.

Macbeth. Best Shakespeare play. I know, based on real history (sort of), but still I'd love to see a modern take.

Cask of Amontillado. Not sure what the modern version of that would be, but...

I don't know how to explain it exactly, but like...remakes of fairy tales where it's all reality-based and not magic/fantasy/whatever.

Like, Little Red Riding Hood where the wolf isn't a wolf but a child molester/murderer and he's killed in self-defense by the little girl's badass grandma.

Or the Three Little Pigs where the wolf works for an evil corporation who wants to destroy the pigs' houses to build fancy condos or an office building or something.

Or Hansel and Gretel where the witch is actually a mom who murders her kids.

Or Snow White where's she's a sociopathic rich lady who kidnapped seven guys and forces them to wait on her, and at the end they kill her and escape.

Or Sleeping Beauty where she's in a coma because the prince put a date rape drug in her drink and used too much/it was contaminated, and she ends up with the female doctor who nurses her back to health.

Or the Little Mermaid where she's trans and moves away from her small, oceanside community and unaccepting family and moves to the big city and finds her own family and a guy who finally accepts her.

Stuff like that.

I really like the whole 'mythology set in various historical periods' thing a-la Hadestown, though I admit I'm not that interesting in actual modern-modern. But, say, Greek mythology set in the Great Depression, yeah, that worked well.

I'd love something like the Irish Formorian wars but as like a Godfather style gangster flick. Or back a decade or so and put as a Boardwalk Empire style deal. Following a young Lugh up through the de Danann crime family, dealing with things like the murder of his father by the Tuireanns, while helping wounded crime lord Nuada build the family back up to take revenge on their old enemy Balor and his Formorians. Maybe with flashbacks to Nuada's original rise and fall, the takeover by Bres, Nuada clawing his way back, and then stagnating until Lugh came on the scene.

I know there are some crocheters here. Any way to fix scarf where the beginning is wider?

This is my first time doing crossed stitches (double). I practiced a bit beforehand but I didn't do it enough apparently. The first four inches (going to be 60 inches) are wider because of the crossed part https://i.imgur.com/To0g9Ue.jpg. The beginning is a little over 5 inches https://i.imgur.com/Q21Vw2i.jpg. The rest of it is all a little below 5 inches https://i.imgur.com/vZEiaeL.jpg. The beginning also feels different because it is looser.

Is there any way to fix this? It it possible to unwind from the beginning and..."reverse" crochet the beginning so it is the same width at the rest? Or just chop off that part? It is a gift so I would like it to be a bit less awful looking and more even. It is a wool scarf.

Getting stuff off a wall....

Monstrous Bebe cut out letter-shapes from magazine pages and glued them to her wall (elmers or wood, not sure) in a big quote.

Now that she's moved out, that needs to come down so i can repaint in there. Anybody have any low-cost/no-cost ideas about how to get something like that mostly off? The wall is very textured but the paint itself is the kind that I can scrub with a wipe or washcloth and won't come off.

Anyone need to complain about anything?

My sleeping schedule is so screwed up lately. I actually woke up at a decent time today for once! But instead of doing stuff and being productive, I just laid around and then took a long nap and of course I can't imagine being tired anytime soon, and there's no way I'm getting much sleep tonight before having to wake up early for work in the morning. Uggghhh.

There's so much I need to do, and I needed to go to a certain store because of a sale that ends tonight, and even though I technically still can because they're open for a couple more hours, it's cold outside and I'm still in my pajamas and I just don't feel like it, gah.

Also, one of my favorite shows is in its last season and it's looking like my ship is going to be endgame. It would be only the second time that's ever happened and it would be awesome but for whatever reason the ship is insanely unpopular and all I'm seeing is comments about how it's horrible and it sucks and it's going to ruin the show and "nobody" wants it to happen with lots of people agreeing and it's just bumming me out. I've always lurked on the forum where the majority of discussion takes place and I've thought of actually posting and being like "hey, not EVERYBODY hates them!" but I'd probably just get insulted so I'm not sure there's any point.

Anyone else want to whine about stuff? :D

Oh, lord, do I ever sympathize with your last paragraph about the pairing. I'm in the same situation with one of my fandoms, too, except in my case I'm not sure mine will be endgame. At most, we'll likely just have the confirmation that there's been feelings that weren't entirely platonic.

I'd be all for it becoming canon officially, but I've also accepted the possibility that it won't. I do like their friendship, too, so if they're still friends at the end of it all, I'll be just as good with that. But yes, trying to have a discussion about the pairing of late in the fandom has been...exhausting, to say the least.

Anywho, I hope things work out okay for you with your pairing/show, and that you can find some other fans of the pairing to squee with, and all that good stuff :).

I thought my fucking ankle was healing, when what should happen today but FUCKING PAIN during exercise? I made the call to cut the session early. I can walk on it but I feel it regressing to that stage where I have to lean in all stupid ways in order to get the fucking ankle not to bother me. Can't wear a boot because it just makes it worse.

I need this shit to stop. I can't choose for this to continue, and I can't afford for it to do so.

I bought laundry detergent, among other things, last night and I go to get everything out of the trunk of the car and find that the bottle cap had come unscrewed and most of the bottle of liquid detergent had leaked down to the floor of the backseat. All I can think is someone had partially unscrewed the cap (or not screwed it back on all the way) and left it on the shelf like that because I can't see how the cap could have unscrewed itself all the way just by the bottle tipping over in the trunk.

I wiped things up a bit with paper towels, pulled out the floor mat, and put an old towel down to hopefully soak things up, but I can't see a way to actually clean this since scrubbing or water would just produce a lot of suds. I'm just going to have to let it dry and leave it. It didn't get on the seat and I wiped off what was on the door, so it's just the rear floor and I almost never have passengers in my car. It's an old car, anyway.

At least it was unscented detergent.

On top of everything, I'm still low on laundry detergent!

Lately I have noticed a bunch of fics with the wrong relationship tags, using A/B for a platonic relationship or A&B for a romantic ship.

It's not like there is a large number of people doing this or anything, but in the back of my mind I'm already freaking out about this ending up like the word "literally" now meaning "figuratively" too.

And even without taking into account my internal drama queen tendencies, it's annoying as fuck to be looking for shippy content and find platonic friendship or to be looking for familial fluff and getting hit with unexpected incest.

Petty AF - I've been looking at game mods, and Christ on a cracker they are SO HORNY. Like, there's a lot of really cool mods out there, but on the whole the modding community seems to be SO HORNY! I just want to make my character not look like shit, and maybe give him a nicer haircut! I don't want to make every female character in the game sexy and naked! And YES, I have seen mods for that! Just go watch some porn already and stop making new "Giant Titties" meshes, please!
