Nobody blames you, OP. Dib is the shit. Though I admit if I knew a kid like him IRL I probably would've considered him as creepy as his classmates do.

121. For a second I thought this was me and I'd made a secret in my sleep or something. I can relate to this WAY more than I'd like to; I haven't written fic in months and I feel so isolated without interaction, no matter how minimal, that it gives me.

The Sandman series by Neil Gaiman.

130... Oh God. It's Watership Down. That film scarred me.

113? Honestly?

[identity profile] jimmyrabbitte.livejournal.com 2008-11-17 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Really? Seriously? We're not allowed to keep secrets? Okay, then let's make this interesting...

I'm a guy, and I wrote the Turbolift Secret from yesterday.

And I've wrote several others as well. All of them true, save one. Who says a guy can't have depth? Also, secret maker, you're an idiot.

And then I thought to myself: Someone must have be on drugs when they designed it.

Re: 133

133. I can't watch horror, unless it's one of those really cracky ones like Jason X or Pitch Black where it's aliens eating people who fight back. Being in an audience that's talking back to the screen helps. I can't stand the recent influx of nihilistic films where characters are basically tortured to death.

If it did watch them, I imagine I would feel like a hypocrite lecteur.

140. You know, I really want to like Maiko. The way it was at the end, it even made me smile, and I thought, if it were a ship I could enjoy, that I would've really liked that. And I admit that towards the end, they do things that are really powerful.

But it just doesn't work. Try as hard as I can, nothing will ever make me forget that when Mai was introduced, she was a one-dimensional character, or else she was almost as bad as Azula. She didn't give two craps if her little baby brother lived or died. She didn't care about her family, and honestly, we have no evidence that they're not a good family--they seemed like nice enough people (well, except for being Fire Nation nobility/soldier-types). For the entire first season, as far as I saw, Mai had no real personality aside from a joke. And that was funny. But imagining her as a human being who's actually capable of emotions and still acted as bland as she did for everything in the world except this one guy she had a crush on? That's creepy.

If I can seperate Season 2 Mai and Season 3 Mai into two different people, I can almost enjoy Zuko/Mai.

...

For the record, since I do like Zutara, I should mention that I have no such qualms with Aang/Katara, and thought they were just cute as pie.

101. Something about the camp in Bond, honestly, makes the whole thing ok for me. Not that I want to stop others from analyzing the ways that Bond films are problematic, because they are. But I can still enjoy it because he’s Bond. He regularly skis down snowhills on sharks while exchanging machine gun fire with Chinese Stereotypes while copping a feel of a girl named Madame Mammary Vagina. The fact that the films are also subject to their times also gives them some leeway with me.

105. Overall the secret provided opportunity for catharsis; I loved being able to read other people’s stories, and the pictures of weddings and marriages across the country.

123. Disney’s still got It. And it uses It to hurt us!

131. Jews totally can disagree with and/or dislike each other. I think it might be one of our traditions XD.

142. That’s funny about slash, it’s usually not popular if the couple is canon. Jack/Ianto is the exception, though I think part of the reason is that it wasn’t canon at first. This is my experience, at least.

105. As much as I'm against prop 8 and pissed off by the original secret, I was more pissed off by all the replies it got. RL is annoying enough as it is, is it too much to ask to have fandom for fun? Are you all so dumb you feel the need to jump on any occasion to wank? Leave it alone and let it die alone. Both side, stfu, or do it in appropriate coms.

134. I think the pairing is a bit forced but I won't bash it nonetheless. It's just "meh" until it manages to be proved worth it.

But I am a big cry baby who cried at the end of Terminator 2 (in my defense, I was 12).

ONE FORTY

[identity profile] sparklemagpie.livejournal.com 2008-11-17 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)

Okay... what series did you watch?

I don't have a thing against Maiko, honestly I think the ship is pretty cute, but I feel that it's beginnings were just THROWN the into the series with no warning or explanation beyond a perceived childhood crush of Mai's from BEFORE URSA LEFT (which was what, seven or eight years prior to the series canon?) that Zuko showed no signs of reciprocating when he was little.

There was no indication of anything between then aside from a decade-old one-sided crush until the start of season three when WHAM, out of nowhere they are kissing and acting like they've been together for ages?

I don't disagree that their story and all the cute awkward bits and further development of their relationship was well-handled once it had been introduced, but it still came out of nowhere at the kick-off and I just don't and can't consider that good-development.

It blindsided most people and I think that the piss-poor start is part of why so many people dislike the ship and consider it a bad match. =/

Have you read the comic that takes place between season two and three? It pretty much settles that 'leap' showing the development up to it.
