136. Sometimes 'oopsing' is a dangerous business...

I'm sorry, but that's not fucking funny.

I never get secrets like this. I mean, it's not like the feminists of the world are going to come and take your feminist card away if you like a film that's misogynist (and yes, Bond films are misogynist). Just because a film is misogynist doesn't mean that you have to a) buy into that or b) get no pleasure out of it. People, it's totally possible to be completely aware of a genre's shortcomings and cognizant of its nasty politics and still get serious enjoyment out of it at the same time. How else do you explain the many feminist horror/sci fi/action geeks out there?

Have you not seen how people jump on each other on the internet? I've been harassed of being homophobic just because I didn't think a (non-canon) ship (of the slash variety) worked very well. I'm sure that the OP may just as well have been jumped on for liking those films.

But it's different when people buy you clothes appropriate to a gender you don't identify as.

(Anonymous) 2008-11-17 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
101 - Oh, God yes. I just got a message from a mate asking if I made this secret because we've been watching Bond films for the past 2 nights and I said almost exactly that :)

130 - I get the burning about to get weepy eyes even THINKING about this.

[identity profile] cat-empress.livejournal.com 2008-11-17 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooh, Silm! But you forgot Mae/Fin. The fact that you (and other commenters) can't find any fandom, makes me wonder where you're looking. I always like Silm fans on my flist, and [livejournal.com profile] elvenpiratelady and [livejournal.com profile] coppertone are great for the elf crack. [livejournal.com profile] just_marzipan wrote a fantastic modern Capitalist elf fic, which is awesome. Also, Totally Cousins.

[identity profile] seeking-shiny.livejournal.com 2008-11-17 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't mind my pimping: there is [livejournal.com profile] gondolindrim for all your crack!Tolkien rpg needs. ;)

It's characters from both LOTR and Silm, but canon AND crack pairings are welcome.

130.

[identity profile] saphron-girl.livejournal.com 2008-11-17 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Me too.

Have you ever read the book? I was SOBBING UNCONTROLLABLY for the last five pages.

132

[identity profile] sapphire-hime.livejournal.com 2008-11-17 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Why shouldn't people watch it for that pairing? If it interests them, and they find the series enjoyable because of it, then more power to them!

[identity profile] kyatto.livejournal.com 2008-11-17 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
140 - YES. THIS. I love it so much because they really didn't beat around the bush with it. (Like Kataang which took THE ENTIRE SERIES to officially HAPPEN, and Sukka where for a good chunk of the series Suki was ABSENT (which really fueled the Tokka fire). ) It was like "Guys, this is Zuko's girl. Deal with it." They posted signs. (Flashbacks, scripted comments, etc.) It was just how it was supposed to be. And their development as a couple was realistic as hell.

133

[identity profile] donoka.livejournal.com 2008-11-17 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I honestly didn't see why everyone thought this movie was so scary. I didn't find it tense at all, because everything that happened was so predictable, just another stalk, slash n run movie, I thought. So confused as to why it received four stars over here.
And, I'm terrified of masks.
But on the other hand, I do understand~ *pets*, everybody finds different things scary ;A;, if the movie scared -you- then I guess it did it's job! :)

[Icon relevant; they did it for the lulz]

146

[identity profile] likeatruck.livejournal.com 2008-11-17 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
146 - Me, too, honestly. It's weird. :/

I was/am Dib.

Currently taking a university anthropology course studying "the sinister." Today we started talking about UFOs and alien abductions. We've already covered witchcraft and vampires. Last week was conspiracy theories.

I gave a presentation on Freemasonry, going as far as to wear my regalia and bring in an antique sword from the late 1800's.

Re: 110

[identity profile] darkdork13.livejournal.com 2008-11-18 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
Why the hell wasn't there an anthropology course like that at the uni I went to?! That sounds awesome.

It's good that you have something to enjoy, but if you put all your eggs in the positive-comment basket, you'll either end up catering to the whims of anyone who will please you or falling apart when you post something that people don't like.

Don't wait for that to happen. Branch out. Meet new people; explore other interests; find people who will remind you that it's okay for you not to fit the mold your family wants. (It's perfectly fine, by the way. Be yourself, and more power to you.) You haven't crashed and burned yet. You still have time to change your path, or to start building a safety net.

And don't get too despairing. When and if the meltdown comes, you may find that you have more friends than you realize.

OP of 101

(Anonymous) 2008-11-17 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
If this is a repeat, which post was it in? I looked and looked for it and never found it... ): I remembered being really disappointed when it didn't show up.

Re: OP of 101

[identity profile] myowncliche.livejournal.com 2008-11-18 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
I know I saw it incredibly recently, but I can't seem to find it anywhere now that I'm looking back.

Now I'm confused.

136. the comedian is absolutely one of my favorite characters. :)

[identity profile] georg-vanlunden.livejournal.com 2008-11-17 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
113. ... And what if I were to accuse YOU of being a troll, simply by virtue of saying you are a female? After all, we all know that women are fickle creatures, who do not have enough time in their busy schedules of backstabbing and bickering to learn things like maneuvering the internets, which is home to, as we all know, sensible and logic manbeings! Oho, how the tables turn in this, our game of deceit and unclear gender roles!

119

[identity profile] ace-0f-knaves.livejournal.com 2008-11-17 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, you! While you're stroking my ego, why don't you try stroking something else? And maybe use your mouth a little. Actually, use it a lot.

wow, i'd love to have that copy, nasmith is my fave tolkien artist. you should check out theonering.net forums. i'm sure you can find plenty of people near you to become brand new tolkien nerds with.:)

If you are who I think you are... you might recognize my lj name.

I was never really a Silm-fan (I like the stories; I just can't ever manage to finish reading it), but I was an old-school Tolkien fan... I miss those days, too.

136. And my human side is looking at this and saying "You're a very sick individual."

143- Persona 4: making glasses, weird haircuts and school uniforms look badass since 2008.

toobig!2. Heh, I actually kinda agree. And I'm not American. Of course, hanging out in communities related to your fandom in your native language may be easier said than done.
