107 - So wait. If I happen to like slash, and also be pro-gay rights... that makes me a bad person? Gee, thanks.

CI, CVII, CXXII, CXLV, CLXI, CLXII, CLXVII

101. Evocative secret is evocative. Does that mean that RPS is like playing in your own sandbox but with someone else's dolls and playset?

107. I won't say that they people you describe don't exist, but being against bigotry is always right.

122. I believe there's a difference between deep meaningful relationships and mere eye candy. You can have both without automatically selling out to the latter.

145. I don't feel quite as strongly as you about it, but yeah.

157. If I may borrow the words of Dan Savage, stop being a scrot and DO IT.

161. I think he's a really awesome character too, but I'm not convinced he can love anyone... especially himself.

162. Group hug! :D

167. Well-made secret is well made. I have to disagree, though. Reviews don't make a story good or bad, right or wrong. Go somewhere where they know quality when they see it.

YOU WIN SO HARD!!!!

[identity profile] easilyentranced.livejournal.com 2008-11-25 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
113. Lol! WHAT?! I love getting rick rolled! How could that song make you cry?

142. That was probably one of my favorite comics! I love those two. They’re my XKCD OTP!

162. Thanksgiving secret. <3

[identity profile] ocelotspots.livejournal.com 2008-11-25 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
103. Hell yes.

140. *HIGH FIVES* I fucking do this all the time! I get home and am like wait... what was that word??

[identity profile] roxspam.livejournal.com 2008-11-25 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
133. cool story, bro

[identity profile] asswit.livejournal.com 2008-11-25 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
107. So what? Most activism is not selfless. Really, ALL activism is basically selfish in that granting rights, benefits, and protections to all individuals equally ultimately benefits all individuals by creating a stronger society. I'd be more likely to lose respect for yaoi/slash fangirls who DIDN'T support gay rights -- because then it's like, "So it's okay if it's your little fantasy to use as you please, but not if it's my life?"

137. AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA win.

163. I know at least one who has. Not telling whoooooo~ ;)

[identity profile] shoujokakumei.livejournal.com 2008-11-25 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
Dear 107.

Congratulations, you've posted the single dumbest secret related to Prop 8/gay marriage ever. You win a fake internet, a stale cookie, and a slap in the face. :D

Not everyone's political beliefs have anything to do with fandom, regardless of what this community might make you think.

Sincerely,
Slash fangirls whose IRL best friends are GLBT.

138)

God, I can't second this enough. There's so many pairings I'd love to see written, that just tend to get ignored because everyone is writing those two. Hell, I'd write them myself, and have several ideas, but I'm too afraid they'd get ignored. :/

For more generic DANNY/RORRY.

I didn't mind the pairing at first, and I still don't mind it, but got damn. I'm just sick of seeing it now.

Re: 138

[identity profile] schala-kid.livejournal.com 2008-11-25 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
Write it and post it, there's an audience for anything I mean if you never try and just complain then nothing will happen.

107

[identity profile] lyndasty.livejournal.com 2008-11-25 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
107: So it couldn't POSSIBLY be that a slash fan was pro-gay rights BEFORE they were into slash?! I'm here to tell you that my father is gay and I was raised by Dad and his partner and I was advocating fro gay rights before I'd even HEARD of slash.

Think before you generalize.

[identity profile] akai_senshi.livejournal.com 2008-11-25 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
107. Or, yanno, they got into yaoi through the gay community. Amazing, but true.
127. LOL
131. YAAY OUTLAW STAR SECRET
148. AOSHIIII~
159. THIS.

107

[identity profile] aliccolo.livejournal.com 2008-11-25 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
This made me LOL. It also made me feel better about myself. I'm proud to be an open minded pansexual. I love slash and yaoi. I love yuri, femslash, and het. And I'm just as proud to be active for LGBT rights. And guess what? Knowing I'm pissing you off makes my activism worth it.

103,107, 113, 163

[identity profile] lunarwhirl.livejournal.com 2008-11-25 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
103: ... You know, that would actually be really cute.

107: Be that as it may, it's better than a yaoi fangirl who's vehemently against gay marriage.

113: It's so boring, although I have to admit that the fake vid of the Obama rick roll was pretty funny.

163: You're just disgusting.`

140

[identity profile] kryss-labryn.livejournal.com 2008-11-25 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
Funnily enough, my handwriting looks like the printing version of your handwriting. LOLly enough, it's for the exact same reason.

XD Rock on, dude. XD

155.

[identity profile] daftest.livejournal.com 2008-11-25 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
What, what, is that Good Wives' Club? I admit, I watch it sporadically whenever my parents are watching it. I...can't look away. The drama, oh, delicious drama. ):

This is the one with the cardboard box falling out the apartment window and striking that lady, right? lol

129

[identity profile] neko-nny-okibi.livejournal.com 2008-11-25 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
129. I agree that they had their cute moments, but I'm gonna be typical and say 'Liz can do better.' I think she stuck with Dennis as long as she did because he was "good enough," and her desire for a relationship made her overlook his many bad points. Not to say any partner is gonna be perfect, but nor should you settle for less if you don't genuinely love them, and I don't believe Liz loved Dennis. I do think Dennis loved her in one sense or another, but he didn't seem like the truly faithful type. Often he seemed difficult and obnoxious, and remember when Liz reminisced that all their better moments just involved food? XD

[identity profile] poisontea.livejournal.com 2008-11-25 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
107. ... Are you seriously that dumb? Maybe it's the fact that, oh, I don't know... they realize that since something isn't "omg evil disgusting icky it will RUIN LIFE IF WE ALLOW THESE PEOPLE TO BE DIRTY AND THINK THEY ARE EQUAL!!!" that people who actually oppose gay marriage are being hurtful assholes? Maybe they realize that it would be hypocritical to go "omg so hot!" and then tack on "... but you're lesser people anyway, you deserve less rights than I do"? Maybe there are those of us who know gay and bi people in real life and aren't perfectly straight ourselves! THE POSSIBILITIES ARE AMAZING, OP. NO. SERIOUSLY.

Take it on a goddamn case by case basis before judging people for... oh, actually being decent human beings. Thanks.

110. You really miss the entire point of those two characters' friendship, don't you?

112. ... wait, wait, pretty much everyone I know was saying from the beginning that Shouichi was going to be redeemed/not be a bad guy forever. Where's all the wank now? D:

113. I think it's funny because I have always actually really loved the song. So every time it happens to me I go "HAHA WOW W2G ME FALLING FOR THAT" *listens to song bcs awesome* (:

115. I don't see anything wrong with this. Non-con is just not your cup of tea. It's really not a bad thing or even a big deal. I can't really see most of the characters I ship non-conning the other of the pair ICly anyway (well, with a few exceptions!); if I want dramatic rape plot, I just have to go to another character for them to do the deed.

120. JUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN

*takes a breath* *A*

A-anyway... yes. Carry on. *coughs* ALSO, I CAN SEE IT.

122. I don't think there's anything wrong with that. I'm a lesbian, and any time I see any kind of attractively-portrayed kissing/petting/etc I go through that. I love the deeper parts of relationships, but I'm totally shallow as hell on some levels too, and I don't know see that's a problem. :>

128. He's one of my favorite voice actors for dubs, too! I'm sure he's probably been miscast once or twice, but from what I've heard of him, I've always loved it. Him, Crispin Freeman, and Mona Marshall (in order from least to greatest!) will be my favorite VA's forever and ever, I'm pretty sure -- I can always recognize their voices and go into little gleefits, especially for the last two!

133. I'm sorry for your experiences, but oh my god. And this is coming from someone who DOESN'T ship anyone under 15 in sexual situations! However, because of your reasoning, I guess I think rape is A-okay in real life. Unhealthy relationships, too. Yelling at and hitting your significant other is encouraged! Oh, man, if you meet someone who stabs you when you first interact, then claims that means they own you, they're just a regular keeper. Not to mention I'm probably right on the edge of going out and murdering a ton of people, and cheer on the people who do, because I like fictional psychopaths. I'm just a hateful, ticking time bomb waiting to explode and the world would be better off without me. I should put up a PSA so people can realize how very horrible I am and how much they should hate me.

Yes, I realize pedophilia in fics (or underage sex in fics -- as two thirteen year olds having sex isn't, strictly speaking, pedophilia) is your hot-button issue. Guess what? IT'S IGNORABLE! I've been able to pretty much ignore it for years! And hating people for what they like in their fiction? Is self-righteous, small-minded jerkishness of the highest order.

134. ... Your secret makes me want Stein/Lloyd and Medusa/...whatsherface. :D

[identity profile] velvetalchemist.livejournal.com 2008-11-27 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
Crispin Freeman... *drool* Dear god, I would pay to listen to him read the newspaper. Read the dictionary. Read a physics textbook. Yarh. I have gleefits when I hear him as well. It's really pathetic. I'll start watching a new show, thinking, "Meh, this is alright... but is it worth tuning into every week?" and then I'll hear his voice and "OMG, this is the bestest show EVAR."

I think I may have a voice fetish. :-\

[identity profile] poisontea.livejournal.com 2008-11-25 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
136. You know, there are some people who can do it. Probably not all the people who do every year, true, but... there's a competition that you would know about, if you read No Plot No Problem, in which people try to write a novel over a weekend. People actually win at that, too, and some have been published. Some people are just absolutely batshit insane writers -- it's not impossible to churn out something like 10,000 decent (or slightly less-or-more-than) words a day.

139. ♥

I think I'd really like to be way more gender-fluid (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genderqueer) myself. I'm so glad you're feeling better about yourself and the ways you feel and like to look~

141. DO IT DO IT DO IT DO IT DO IT /o/

145. FUCK YEAH IF YOU EVER NEED A REC LIST I HAVE SOME AWESOME ONES. Just hit me up. :|b

149. ... You know what? I think I can echo this. Forever. ;^;

157. If you'd lose your friends' respect just by posting porn, no matter how well written or well reasoned it might be, you seriously need better friends.

159. Wow, you're being a bit of an ass. Grow up a little and realize that you're acting just as jerky by calling everyone who ships slash pairings as "those people" and thinking that they all ignore het and characterization just to get to the hot buttsexing. I manage to ship het, slash, and femslash, and I'm quite sure hell hasn't frozen over yet, so it can't be that big a deal!

To sum up: ship for characters, not for what genetalia they happen to have. You're being just as ridiculous as the people who refuse to ship or acknowledge het.

163. I don't really have anything to say about your plan, but the idea that other published authors have done this already is a hilarious one. I really kind of want to believe that's true, now. ♥

164. *rolls eyes* Uh, so then you can't have genfic about a married couple? Or any couple? If I write fic about two characters that are romantically involved, it suddenly has to be a romance fic now, and can't be gen?

165. ... unf that character design.

167. It just shows that there are way, way more dummies with bad taste than any of us would think. We're outnumbered, OP. ):

not!secret #1: Oh, come on. It's not that freaking bad.

too!big #1: Agreeing with most of your points, except I'll probably never touch the fandom and Ten is tied with Nine for my second-favorite (my first being Four! :|b). I love pretty much all the Doctors, though -- I just feel annoyed that apparently there's a stigma for thinking that Tennant can actually act really well, and enjoying his high-energy take on the Doctor. Meh, I won't miss him as much as Nine, cos that was too short... I just hope Eleven is a great one!

[identity profile] delfeus.livejournal.com 2008-11-25 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
106. There's nothing strange about that. It's the only Sasuke I'd hit, too.

107. Who cares what their reasons are, as long as the end result is right. By the way - I was pro gay rights long before I found slash. I really doubt that I'm the only one.

113. I've never really found it funny, but I think it's cute, in a way. The song at least. I'd ming a lot more if I ended up watching something creepily Hasselhoffy.

120. Sounds like you need to write a crossover, then! Or bug someone else into doing it for you.

140. It's really pretty. :) My handwriting is pretty difficult to read, too, but I always got too self-conscious to write anything like that on lectures. There was one course that was an exception, hypermedia or something, because I already knew everything there, so all my handouts from it have fic on the other side. XD

141. Sounds interesting. :) I think that I may have seen a fic like that in the Harry Potter fandom. Then again, that fandom has pretty much anything you can think of, if you just dig deep enough.

167. It's probably the pairings. If they are less popular, then people will read pretty much anything they find for them. For popular stuff there is more to choose from. I've read some pretty crappy stuff for pairings I haven't seen before.

117.

AHHH I LOVED NIGHTSTALKER!! WHY DID ABC HAVE TO CANCEL IT IN THE MIDDLE OF A TWO PARTER?!?!

I also feel everyone's pain of cancelled shows, since we lost Farscape.

101, 109, 113, 125, 129, 132, 136, 137

101 - the only way to go is to dive in headfirst. im writing my first original story ever for nano this year and its going so much better than i ever thought it would. i mean, the worst thing that can happen is that it sucks. then.....so what? you move on and try again. i really do urge you to try, ive been there so many times that its so freeing knowing i can do something more.

109 - YUM!!

113 - ......nope. still funny. kinda like chuck norris jokes, imo - theyre so incredibly lame that they can never be unfunny.

125 - im still torn. i cant decide if i do or not :/

129 - you WANT her to be with a guy who treats her like crap?? what show are you watching dude?! way to miss then ENTIRE POINT OF THAT STORY ARC.

132 - no, that really is pretty stupid. sorry.

136 - this, or you have absolutely no life whatsoever.

137 - this man IS NOT FUNNY. AT ALL!!

Re: 137

[identity profile] nicheledres.livejournal.com 2008-11-25 06:33 am (UTC)(link)
I could not agree with you less. I'm not normally a fan of comedy acts because they get so racy and often go too far. That said, Jeff Dunham is the exception to that rule. I think he's hilarious. I've seen all his Comedy Central specials numerous times, but they still crack me up every time.

107- Or maybe some of us are pro-gay marriage because we're human and we believe that everybody should have an equal chance to love.

Or perhaps some, like myself, ARE GAY. There's not always a fangirly reason behind everything.

137- What, with Jeff in the middle there too? XD If so, awesome. Isn't that technically masturbation?

158- X3 I love it when West Wing secrets come up! I'd ship them too.

113. And that's why the Rick Roll is funny.

(Anonymous) 2008-11-25 05:55 am (UTC)(link)
The first time, it's just baffling. The second time, it's annoying. The third, it's really annoying. By the fifteenth, you either laugh or cry. Most of us opt to laugh, but I have to say that crying might actually make it ten times funnier, at least for the rest of us.

167. SPRINGTIME FOR VOLE PIT!
