101. I love this secret simply for the visual. What the heck is that dog digging for? He looks so guilty being caught.

107. This secret doesn't make any sense what so ever. You look down on people who write slash but in real life don't hate gays? What?

This has to be a troll because the logic in this secret is like a tasty, well made sandwich from Subway. It doesn't exist.

114. The other day some girls were discussing on LJ about how they liked the skinny trend in male models and they hoped fashion never swings back to the built model look. I thought they were joking. However, now I know they are serious. C'mon, I can see liking the waif look in feminine faced BOYS under the age of 20. The type you see littering all over shoujo. But these are MEN we are talking about.

It's one thing to be naturally skinny. It's another thing to want all men to be razor thin. They're men. They have muscles. Big manly men muscles. How can you not like that?

128. Ever since Trigun, I've loved his voice too.

Re: 114

[identity profile] lanjelin.livejournal.com 2008-11-25 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
How can you not like that?

Men come in different sizes and shapes just like women do, and it's just as unfair to have a standard for "real men" as it is to have one for "real women"?

People have different tastes, you know, even when it comes to men! :)

137) The secret should be that you actually watch that shit. "I watch it". After that you've already hit rock bottom bad taste, no point in making a big show of shipping the puppets.
139) That's depressing.
140) "He" is a robot, so he doesn't have a gender other than the fact that he got a masculine name/slightly deeper robo voice in the movie. That's like me saying I'd go gay for my bookshelf.

107 - I love how your secret seems to assume that all yaoi and slash fangirls are heterosexual, and thus, that their support of gay-rights can't have anything to do with something other than sexual fantasies.

[identity profile] seiberwing.livejournal.com 2008-11-24 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
For that matter, they're assuming all slash fans are female. I know a few who are gay/bisexual men.

[identity profile] tokinokanatae.livejournal.com 2008-11-24 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
107. Yeah, liking slash automatically means your motives to help people are less than pure. Better watch out, I'm sure that when gay marriage inevitably DOES become legal, fangirls are going to drop in on every gay wedding en masse with yaoi paddles. The living will envy the dead.

126. Uh, Holmes in love with anyone is LOGIC ERROR DOES NOT COMPUTE. The tone you've taken with your secret makes you sound like a butthurt Mary Sue author, though. Just saying.

159. You might not be homophobic, but you seem to have issues concerning the idea. What ever happened to shipping for chemistry, regardless of gender? If two girls go together than one of the girls and anyone else, I don't think I should have to pull out a measuring tape and magnifying glass to figure out the "relative measures of chemistry she has with men a-z as compared to girl a". Likewise for two guys or a heterosexual couple. The fact that you're so hung up on the mere idea of liking yaoi is pretty telling.

164

[identity profile] magglenagall.livejournal.com 2008-11-24 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I see what you're trying to say, but I'm going to have to disagree. Gen doesn't just mean that there are no pairings whatsoever, but rather that romance is not the focus of the fic. Furthermore, there are people who get *really* antsy about certain pairings, and will freak out at any hint of them in a fic - even just a mention of the detested pairing might cause keyboard smashing. So while it's possible (perhaps even likely) that someone who labels a fic CharA/CharB (gen) misunderstands what gen means, it's also possible they could be sending out a polite warning - "Hey, potential readers, this fic is gen and there's no romancin' going on, but A and B are a couple in it, so if that squicks you, you should give this one a pass."

Re: 164

[identity profile] lanjelin.livejournal.com 2008-11-25 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
This is one of those undefined things, though; to many people "gen" means no non-canon pairings. And by that I mean they have to be in a relationship in canon to count.

1o7. Yeah, isn't that better than the opposite?

126. I think I agree with this, depending on how literal the wording is. Holmes/Watson is not, was not, and will not ever be canon. So hypocritical, yeah. On the other hand, Holmes/woman is a good deal more OOC, given his extremely vocal misogyny.

159 Slashing characters together doesn't automatically mean people don't consider their friendship/rivalries/etc.

[identity profile] paperclipchains.livejournal.com 2008-11-24 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
107. You could just sum this up by saying that you tend to have little respect for yaoi zealots.

127. This is apt.

133. Uh... While I see where you're coming from, I think that's sort of ill-considered, so let me just throw out some rhetorical questions for you to consider. Do you hate them if they write character 15 or under having sex with someone thier age? Do you hate them if it's a fade to black thing? What if it's just implied and isn't really explicit at all? What if it's very obviously done for the sake of the story rather than for the masturbatory enjoyment of the reader? And why did you pick 15 as a baseline age, anyway?

138. I don't even know why people ship it. What a boring pairing. THey have no chemistry and there's nothing there at all, they just happen to be in proximity to eachother so the slash is easy to write. Ozy and Comedian would both be easier to write with Rorscharch in my opinion.

156. You don't even know WALL-E is a him. You wouldn't even need to go straight.

164. Does "gen" mean "no sex?" Maybe "no romance?" Maybe "just friends?"

166. Mine is all the other stuff.

167. You kind of asked for this to happen.

136. I hit it in eleven days, is that acceptable? ;) (Well - I finished it on day eleven with 53k, but I hit 50k itself on day ten.)

I, uh, can't vouch for the quality of my work *laughs* Although it isn't horrendous, and it's certainly better than the month-long one I wrote in 2006. I DEFINITELY didn't cheat - I wrote my first word at precisely midnight on Saturday the 1st of November (local time), and I DEFINITELY wouldn't write just... gibberish. Who the hell does that, anyway? :( It's kinda depressing - there are NO PRIZES, GUYS, IT'S A PERSONAL CHALLENGE.

...Anyway. I did actually have a reason to try and finish mine early - I have a ton of exams to study for and assessments to do this month, (I'm actually writing this in a break from my chemistry report) so if I get it done early, then I can focus on academics. (Plus, taking the entire first weekend off, getting 15,000 in the first day, which took about... ten hours? I knew exactly what I wanted to write and type FAST, though! Then 5,000 the next day - that gives you a substantial boost.)

But yeah. It is possible to write fast without writing, well, gibberish. And there were a few days where I only hit 2k and had to make it up on other days with 5k or 8k or something. It only takes a few hours - I hit my first thousand words in the first half hour.

...Anyway. People who hit 250,000 in a week, THEY'RE the ones who make me go o.O (Fifty thousand in ten days? Totally doable, it just averages out to 5k a day, or three or four hours of writing. 250,000 in a week? That's 35k a day!)

[identity profile] boosette.livejournal.com 2008-11-24 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
50k a day is definitely doable - 250k in a week takes a little under 3k/hour for twelve hours straight - 35k/day. I've thought more than once that some of these people write "Oh look, a copy of War and Peace, let me read it aloud!" and then copy/paste from project gutenberg or something.

107. Yeah, 'cause it totally matters why they want queers to have equal rights. Douchenozzle.

Re: 107

(Anonymous) 2008-11-25 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it kinda does. I mean, granted, this secret is poorly worded and 90% likely to be trollbait, but I think it's important to note that people's motives *do* matter.

I mean, it's awesome if people want to support gay marriage. No doubt. But do you really think that the reasons behind people's actions should be considered irrelevant?

Consider an example: many ultra right-wing, anti-Semitic, conservative Christians are extremely pro-Israel. Why? Because they think that the creation of Israel will hasten the arrival of the End Times. If you were pro-Israel, this would probably disturb you. Sure, they might agree with you, but the *why* is important!

From a practical perspective, it is good that we have people supporting equal legal rights for homosexuals. But if the ultimate end goal is to have people truly and deeply respecting homosexuals, not as homosexuals, but as *people*, then the notion is a little troubling that someone who voted no on Prop 8 might have done so because they want Sam and Dean to get married and have buttbabies.

In short, supporting gay rights for the right reasons--i.e., because the queer among us are people too and deserve equal rights--is good, and not supporting gay rights is bad. Supporting gay rights for the wrong reasons--i.e, because you want to fetishize real-life people--is somewhere in between, but definitely not purely good.

Yeah, the amount of Geass-Idiocy in Fandom Secret is fucking stupid. The show jumped the shark at Mao's introduction, the show is full of Deux-Ex Machina and stupid jumps in logic yet they refuse to let the show join the ranks of such tropes.

Re: 166

(Anonymous) 2008-11-24 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure if I'd say Mao's introduction, myself...I think it happened for sure in the early 20s of R1, but had a lot of hints beforehand.

Myself, I started to get squicked out when they began doing creepy shit to Nina and Viletta's characters. I really got a sinking feeling in episode 20, when they resolved what could have been a long and productive character arc dealing with Suzaku and Euphemia's issues with a few sappy sentences just so they could hurry on to the manufactured melodrama and fridging of Euphemia (but God forbid you try to list either Euphemia or Shirley as Women in the Refrigerator on TVTropes, even though that's what they were in the end).

I think the great "WTF?!" moment of the sick and twisted Geass/TVTropes relationship (Geass tops) for me was seeing that they listed the narmy hilarity that was the Euphinator as the show's Growing the Beard (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/GrowingTheBeard) moment.

I always laugh about the rabbit I owned when I was younger. He was called Alexander but this was way before Franz and I've always loved that name anyway. But now I have an epic crush on Alex Kapranos so everyone likes to joke that I was predicting my own future.
