Really? Really? I mean, I know I'm biased considering how hard I ship Jack/Liz, but he tried to throw her under a subway car to extend his 15 minutes of fame and is a Dateline: To Catch a Predator alumni! Dennis is hilarious but as a pairing I just can't take them seriously.

133. I'm sorry that you had this terrible experience. But there are people who have had the same experience who read and write it themselves. There are a lot of them. Many people react in different ways to trauma; if you know that fic about related issues will bother you please don't read it.

I don't think that anyone in fandom thinks raping young children and teenagers is okay. (I don't know anyone in fandom who thinks incest is a good idea either, but I've written and read a lot of that.) At the same time, I know of people who have had consensual sex when they were under 15--with people the same age or close to it. I know someone who was married when she was 14. When I was in junior high school, most of my friends had had sex, and they weren't molested for the most part. Granted this was the 1970s and people seem to be much less active nowadays at that age, but the first time a friend of mine told me that she had had sex I was in sixth grade. (She was older.) That wasn't common, but by the time I was in ninth grade I felt weird because I hadn't. Do I think this is a good idea? No. Would I write about it if it seemed like something that made sense for a character's past? Absolutely. Would I write about early marriages in past times when they were common? Or in a futuristic culture with the kind of feudal society where that might happen again? Yes, I would. And you can hate me if you want to, but I'm thinking...that's a waste of your time.

126. I think the problem there is that Holmes and Watson have this canonical relationship where they're together all the time. Adding sex to it is not canon, but it's not as great a deviation from their story as adding in not just sex, but a relationship with a person who isn't part of the story, especially when Holmes doesn't seem to have much interest in women.

107. You have it backwards. If you like slash or yaoi and you don't want gay people to have their rights, you only care about your sexual fantasies, and not about the people.

(I don't know anyone in fandom who thinks incest is a good idea either, but I've written and read a lot of that.)

You definitely have not seen some of the parts of fandom that I have. I've seen a lot of people arguing that, well, there's plenty of potential for consensual incest that isn't fucked up by power dynamics, and why should there be anything wrong with that?

That said, I have nothing against incest fic in and of itself, regardless of what some of its weirder fans may say, even if I do find most of it OOC.

107 - Yeah, okay--but then you have slash and yaoi fangirls who are somehow anti-gay marriage, even some who post here, and they get their asses toasted. So you can't win. Surely there are some whose only real connections to (")real(") gay people are in the form of porn, but...why can't people just be pro-gay and enjoy slash without the hang-ups?

107. Geez, slash fangirls just can't win, can they?

I get what you mean, but seriously, unless someone specifically says something really delusional, I'd give them the benefit of the doubt.

107

[identity profile] erogenous.livejournal.com 2008-11-24 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Seriously, that has that secret has to be either wankbait, or butthurtism. Think about it. How many slashers do you see post secrets about hating Het?

The reason I use the term, "butthurt" is because I wonder if those who decry slash so vehemently are motivated more because of its popularity than any reasons I've ever seen argued here. I think they are.

So I wouldn't let it bother you.

101. Then build a dirt castle!

103. Yeah, I think I did too.

104. Y'know, I think that just because people don't like a ship like Doctor/Donna or Doctor/Martha it doesn't mean that they hate any ship that isn't the Doctor and Rose. I'm a Doctor/Rose shipper, and I ship plenty more with the good Doctor. Just not those first two, because I don't see the characters working like that.
...
Also, I think 10 is alternately scare-of/intruiged-by sex, but ultimately kind of grossed out by squishy humans.

110. 0.0 OMIGHOSH THANK YOU!!! I keep thinking I'm the only one who absolutely hates Sean. I mean, as a trickster-rubber-face, yeah, he's fun, but after awhile, I just had to stop watching because he gets away with everything and Gus just takes it. I think it was the Comic Convention episode that did it for me. It's like, if there's anything that Gus really really likes and Sean doesn't even care about, Sean will succeed with it, and Gus will get the table scraps.

They're not cute. They're tragic. And Sean needs to eventually get beat up by someone. Like, traction kind of beat-up.

127. Yes. It is mean-spirited. Going by the show alone (not interviews, not fandom), Zuko/Katara was plenty plausible. I think anyone who considers people who had a different opinion on an outcome "delusional" or whatever are just being dicks.

132. Please tell me it's fake.

147. Batman Beyond always makes me sad because you realise that, in the DCAU at least, Batman ended up crazy and alone. No Selina, no Diana.

165. Um. Tackyclothes-hawt what's it from?

167. Nicely done secret. Painful and true.

(Anonymous) 2008-11-24 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
127. I'm curious how you came to that conclusion when Katara and Zuko hadn't spent more than ten minutes together at a stretch until the S2 finale and with Katara not being on speaking terms with Zuko until 3.16.

I wonder if by provoked, you mean molested? Join the club. It's happened to lots of people. By no way are you unique in this.

People write for many reasons, one being therapy and as a shout-out to others who've experienced the like.

Stories are fiction. You have the right to hate genres, just as others have the right to write them.

Way to misdirect your anger about what happened to you at perfectly innocent people.

103:Personally, I shipped Cogsworth and Mrs Potts(INB4 people going "but he's so gay for Lumiere!!!"?). But, I admit they look kinda cute together :)

105:Name of the movie?

112:Wow, Shouichi looks like he's got crazy amount of hair in that picture *__*

116:Correct me if I'm wrong, but he(Quinton)is a voice actor, right? Lol, his hair looks very seventies in that picture :D

133:Well, I'm not much for shota/loli, but I don't think(most)people who write/draw those kinds of things would actually condone RL pedophilia. It's a fantasy. Plus, as the old saying goes - fictional characters, they don't really get hurt, etc etc.

139:Wait...are you a girl who has wanted to be boy all her life, or are you guy who's tried acting like a guy, and now has found some middleground? Sorry, confusing secret is confusing(to me)-__-;

152:Repeat

159:I can relate to this secret - before I got into slash/yaoi, I was really against it, and I thought yaoi fangirls were weird for not even giving het pairings a chance(And I absolutely hated yaoi fangirls who hated and bashed female characters). But, luckily, I've gotten a little bit older and wiser, and try to be more open to peoples tastes and preferences. I still dislike fangirls who hate female characters just because they're female, but I just try to ignore them.

162:THIS(Even though I stay out of all the wank, drama and asshattery in fandom)\^0^/ If I'm feeling down, and something nice happens in any of my favorite fandoms, I always feel a little bit better afterwards&hearts plus, it's nice to goof off with other people too ^___^

166:Man, TV Tropes really seems to be the kind of site you either hate or love. I wonder if my wankdar is off or something, since I haven't really seen much off all this drama everyone talks about \o___O/

127. That's a funnier comparison than I think it should be.

128. I love that man's voice. Reading this secret, all I can think of is this one forum that was talking about Funi allowing people to vote for Goku's voice for the new Dragonball dub, and someone posting, "This is quite possibly the greatest thing that has ever happened to dubs since the invention of Johnny Yong Bosch!"

134. Wait, wait? You can't stand Mesusa? But she's so many layers of evil awesome! Seriously, Soul Eater is one of the few shounen mangas out there that has absolutely no problem with allowing its female cast to shine just as brightly as their male counterparts. (PS- Stein/Medusa is friggin' hot.)

103: Well, yeah. Duh... ^_^

106: I think he's hot except for the weird hand/wing things.

107: Nonsensical secret makes no damn sense.

133: Oh, for the love of Aang... Say it with me folks: Fantasy does NOT equal reality.

137: "I think you need a bigger stick."
"That's not what your mom said!"

148: You know Saitou Hajime was a real person, and Tokio was really the name of his wife, right? So... good luck with that.

151: Cool. The Brigadier = Awesome. ^_^

162: Amen, brother/sister!

This happened to me too, for a while (I think possibly school also burned me out of reading fiction). Now the only books I read are by authors I already know I love and respect: Cormac McCarthy, William Faulkner, Joseph Conrad, E. M. Forster. I know the feeling, though. I think once you're more certain of your own abilities, it'll get easier.

136. I don't even want to talk to people who do this. Either that, or I want to demand to see what they've written, just so I can confirm that it's crap.

137. OH THANK GOD. I thought I was alone, and I totally would have understood why if that were the case! I make up fics in my head where the puppets are alive and they live with Jeff and his family.

That... is probably a good candidate for a secret, y/y?

107. ...So you would prefer that they go anti-gay marriage then?

127. Haha <3

141. I'd totally read that!

162. Dawwww

To me, he's more of a dodgy Irish swindler with a hint of traveller around him. It might be just cultural expectations... But his shop has shamrocks and horseshoes decorating it! The random Celtic cross necklace and stupidly familiar looking culchie farmer cap! What the hell.
He's ridiculous but I can't help find him amusing and almost endearing.

Oh, also, pfft, Gaia. I can't ever decide whether I love the stupid or hate it, but the comic edits are hilarious and the art is good. Plus, I have friends floating around I wouldn't be able to keep in contact with otherwise.
I miss the :domokun: emoticon. D:
