Admittedly there is less immediate feed back and less places to post, but there ARE places to post and are communities of people who read such things. Right now I'm writing an original story and it's so much fun. I love having complete control over everything -- my settings, my plots, my characters. I really love being able to create my own characters and giving them center billing.

My friend did 10,000 a day every day for several weeks and wrote 150,000 words by the end of a month. It turned out to be wildly popular and is still recced all over the place. So in summation, life isn't fair.

Or, to be less deliberately obtuse, Livejournal isn't the Borg. Fandom Secrets isn't, either. Not even The Other Wiki is 100% agreed on everything. So why is TV Tropes treated like it is?

Not everyone there is shallow, or into character bashing, or absolutely certain that their favorite show is "OMG FLAWLESS". Beneath it all, we're pretty much the same as any other internet community. The only difference is the fact that anyone with a favorite show and five minutes of free time can change a page at will.

107-That's an odd combination to think being a slash fan means you shouldn't be vocally pro-gay marriage. Personally, I think any reason is good--I wouldn't hold out for the perfect reason to support it! Being pro-gay marriage doesn't protect their fantasies, which work fine either way (people might even like them better if they seem more "forbidden"). If they feel like they have to be pro gay marriage...good! It means they think it would be crappy not to be.
