101. I just wish people would stop trying to write women as damsels or militiant feminists. Everybody, regardless of gender, can be weak or strong, somewhere in between. For example, a friend of mine is usually seen as a wet blanket or a doormat and tends to get herself wound up over boys, but whenever I'm in trouble, or I need help, she stands up and starts kicking ass. :) There isn't any such as thing as uke or seme genes in people, yanno.

101. I love you forever and agree whole heartedly. It just got done with an oral presentation about this. I was a little surprised to see you mention the Claidi journals though.

I will admit that I havent read the books in years, and that I didn't really like Claidi as a person much, but I felt she had a sense of self. Yea there was the whole switching from whats his face to Argul thing but she did destroy the wolf law and what not.

I should read them again tho--I get the feeling Im making a fool of myself xD

I don't think that, as a story, DN is that great, except... for me, it's kind of like Gundam Wing, the canon is very shoddy, frequently only good if you're watching/reading for a laugh, and misogynistic. And yet, despite all of those flaws, I have a tremendous amount of fun RPing/writing fic/taking off from and expanding upon canon or whatever.

My memory may be clouded a bit by nostalgia, but wasn't Claidi... kind of awesome? I mean, she did that whole fawning over Nemian thing in the beginning and this was presented as silly and got her in a heap of trouble, and while the later books were driven rather heavily by OH SHIT SOMEONE ELSE IS TRYING TO GET BETWEEN HER AND ARGUL OR SOMETHING, it struck me as more a case of "hey, I love this man and want to stick with him" than one of "I NEED A MAN FOR FULFILLMENT, WOE." And the fact that she fought her way back to him every time suggests to me that she wasn't totally useless without him.

I agree. It seems like that sort of thing at first in the books, but she realizes later on that the guy is a complete jerk. It's a subversion. Also, by the fourth book she is far stronger than in the first one, and probably wouldn't make the choice she did then.
