At first I read this as "I think blacks have no place in goth/metal subculture," and was all ready to be angry about it. And then I looked again, and saw the "don't".

Judging by the comments, a depressing number of people aren't bothering to look again.

That said, I still want to know: why did Spawn's blackness depress you? If it's not about the culture, and it's not a discomfort with formerly white comic characters being replaced with black ones (although IMDB says Spawn was played by a black guy in the 1997 movie, so this is apparently not a new idea), great . . . but what is it?

101. A woman has to be a wimp or a feminazi. All a teenage heroine cares about are boys and fitting into petty cliques. Thank friggin' god I had Matilda and Alice to relate to while growing up.
119. The childhood classics I hold dearest to my heart are the ones I still like after "growing up". What's interesting is sometimes it becomes another movie altogether. I know what you mean though; I still liked Land Before Time, but it wasn't as heart-wrenching and dramatic as it was when I was a kid. (Doesn't help I realized how much I couldn't stand Cera. @.@;;; ) It's like with some kid's films, you watch it and it feels... short. Like it needed a little more of something, though the film took forever and ever as a child.

If it makes you feel any better, I grew up watching Jim Carrey movies. "The Mask" was my favorite. :P *goes and cringes in the corner in shame after typing that*

110 - OMG. me too, I loved 9 and Rose.. because he was all dark, and she brought him to life. Their interactions were amazing. Once 10 showed up, he was too pretty and made googly eyes at Rose. 9 and Rose was more romantic to me because it just seemed more complicated and more "starcrossed". idk. I really adored Chris E and his spin on the role though.

I agree, but I wonder how people would perceive that relationship if Nine had more than one series? What ruined Ten/Rose for me was the fact that she got stuck in an alternate dimension and his (reasonably justified) moping overshadowed his other relationships.

145. I can't ship anything that breaks up Wash and Zoe, either. Firefly never struck me as having a ton of m/m slash potential, although I do like some Firefly femslash pairings. The relationship between the guys I liked best was actually Book and Jayne's developing friendship.

157. Well, "devastation" is an awfully strong word for a development that doesn't involve your character dying or acting horribly OOC. Did you have some kind of elaborate personal fanon to which you were deeply attached that involved him being half-Irish half-Japanese or something?

109. That scene absolutely broke my heart. I got into Silent Hill fairly early - not right when 1 came out, but pretty well before 2 did - and figured out the twist to Heather almost immediately. When she got home, I just... oh man... I told my mom and little brother and we all cried together. You hit the nail on the head, OP: he deserved so much better.

152. I'm not going to go into this much, since I'll never sway you and you'll never sway me, but I disagree. There haven't been too many comments saying that, so I thought I'd throw it out there. I loved Death Note the first time I read it, and I love it now.

157. If I take your secret at face value, assuming everything you've written is exactly what you think, then yes, you're being racist. Here's the thing - it's not racist to be put off when a character doesn't match what you thought he'd look like. If you picture someone as a tan blond and he turns out to be a pale redhead, an olive-skinned frenchman, or a dark-haired black man, there's nothing wrong with being a bit huffy that the canon doesn't jive with your mental image. HOWEVER. If it's just the fact that he's black that's upsetting you, you're being racist, and being devastated because of it either way is just plain ridiculous. Disliking someone purely because of his skintone, especially when the person is someone you liked before you knew that detail, is textbook racism. You ought to stop and take a good, hard, honest look at yourself.

Gun secret! Yay! I loved that game, but naming the horses? No. The game turned me into a psychopath while I was playing it, and I happily rode horses to death and laughed while shooting cattle with my explosive arrows. Any other game and I get ridiculously soppy (good god don't talk to be about the dog in Fable 2) but Gun is very, very bad for me.

143. HAHAHA! There was that episode of South Park a few weeks ago where there were a whole bunch of preppy kids becoming "vampires". It was a fantastic parody of mallgoths and twilight fans. The head vampire said "per se" at the end of every sentence. If you haven't seen the episode, using per se in your secret about vampires is a wonderful coincidence.

Comic book guy is known for: "worst episode ever" reviews, focusing on minute technical details like whether or not Itchy's xylophone playing matches its music, downloading porn and collecting toys and comic books. I doubt he'd be interested in literary meta. Are you suggesting people split fandom time between that and writing porn or doing fanart? Because I wouldn't be surprised if CBG had plenty of fanfic he'd written.
