Okami is my favorite video game. I've played it multiple times. However, I have never been able to get through more than two hours of a Zelda game. The world just doesn't grab me in the way Okami's did. Secret because every time I say Okami is my favorite game, people excitedly tell me I should play the Zelda games. I don't really have the heart to tell them that they bore me.

I don't know why it took me so long to block this particularly problematic person in my fandom who has a habit of posting casually homophobic stuff. The drama that usually occurred afterwards was sometimes juicy, but I'm way happier not seeing anything from them anymore.

If I dislike a work that no-one else is talking about, I accept my dislike and move on.
If I dislike a work that everyone else dislikes, I move on.
If I dislike a work that is being praised by those around me, especially if it's being praised for something I specifically find lacking (like the endlessly debatable 'good representation'), it will annoy me until the sun burns out. I really, really wish I could just get over it.

I know fandom is trying to move beyond 'cringe' as a concept, but I still find "Hot Guy From Canon/Perfect Girl OC With Tragic Backstory' embarrassing just to think about.
(And in some fandoms, that's like 50% of all fic)

Sleepy Hollow with Johnny Depp probably probably would have been one of my favorite movies had it either removed the jokes and played out as a straight up horror flick or if it had got full throttle with the humor and billed itself as a dark comedy. Pick one or the other; the movie just doesn't know what genre it wants to be in and suffers for it in tone and atmosphere.

On rereading the Thursday Next books, I was disappointed to realise that she's an archetype of 'woman who's essentially a man' that the author fancies himself. I still love the books though.

I just rewatched the RDJ and Jude Law Sherlock films and I'm still mad they fridged Irene in the second one. FFS, if they only wanted Rachel McAdams to cameo, they should've had the canonical former opera singer help sneak Holmes and Watson backstage at the Paris Opera.

BS: also kind of sad the "blow up the Opera" bait and switch wasn't a "drop the chandelier" bait and switch because Sherlock/Phantom of the Opera crossovers are fun.

I read a lot of fic. I reread a lot of my favorite fic every year.

I also write fic.

The fic I reread the most often? My own work.

There's better writers out there. Some who are so blisteringly talented that I'd gladly sell my soul to write with a fifth of their ability.

But I still like my fic the best.

I find it frustrating that people in the Harry Potter fandom often don’t tag for racebending. It’s just not my thing, and it’s annoying to get partway into a fic and suddenly realize it’s a racebend, when neither the tags nor the author’s notes mentioned it. (Genderbending is also not something I’m into, but everybody tags their genderbends.)

Fandom: Girls

I’m pretty sure I would hate Hannah at least 25% less passionately if I didn’t find her so unattractive. I'd absolutely still dislike her, because I can't stand her personality. But the way she looks, and the way the character is styled to emphasize her unattractiveness, really intensifies my dislike.

The scrotum secret made me think of this.

NSFW secret for female medical and sex stuff.

I"m a bi girl, and yet I have issues with vaginas. Breasts are sexy and I'm all about them. Fully naked women are sexy. But I can't have sex due to it causing intense pain when anything is inserted into me. So I have issues with images of open vaginas. I don't find them sexy and in fact often react instinctively with pain to them. Maybe I should give up my bi card, I don't know. I do read femslash but often stop at a certain point. I have a problem. I feel guilty but I can't help my reaction.

I went into Crash Bandicoot 4 fully expecting to ship Crash/Tawna/Coco based on previews... and inexplicably came out shipping N. Gin/N. Brio after the game released. Feels weird but definitely on brand for me seeing as I've always been into Igor-esque characters. To now have an Igor/Igor pairing is as rare as it is surreal.

I feel like I ought to like Japanese horror movies more than I do. They've got the creepy atmosphere and the "show don't tell" stuff down so much better than most Western horrors. But the ones I've seen always have some element in them that throws my suspension of disbelief off just enough that I don't really connect with the story.

As soon as a celebrity is pregnant / has a child, they become super duper boring to me and i lose any interest in following them on social media anymore. idgaf about baby bumps, burps, diapers, "glowing mom".
Pregnancy announcement = instant unfollow. (Counts for the dads as well: "#blessed #perfectspouse")

So many years and I'm still bitter about the female-on-male rape in Son of a Witch not only being handwaved/declared as hot/romantic by a good number of people, but the rapist and her victim getting shoved into a romantic relationship with the rapist basically guilt-tripping her victim into taking care of her rape-product baby in the end.

I have a deep and abiding love of Morrowind. It's almost twenty years old and it looks like garbage and everything is brown but goddamn. You're going to fulfil a prophecy by cheating! The fast travel mechanic is giant insects! There is a city made of exoskeleton! There's a prison on an asteroid that is held in place by the will of a god! According to some of the lore, a person can become a god by realising they're in a game!
This shit is bananas and I love it. I would give Todd Howard my right kidney for a good remaster.

(Anonymous) 2020-10-04 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
That is to say, what would you like added, subtracted, or changed about a specific fandom or all of fandom in general? 2020 is often associated with chaos and drama; maybe 2021 will shake everything up in a small or big way?

What's your favorite ever official music video for a song?
