I think we don't have a good grasp in general on what kind of narrative works best in video games, or what kind of artistic experience video games are supposed to provide (not helped by the fact that wide swathes of game industry and fandom are totally opposed to everything that is actually involved in treating games as art).

So I think it's a really intuitive mistake to make - the Big Thing about playing games is their interactivity, therefore, the best video game narratives are the ones with the most interactivity. And this isn't actually true but it's easy to see why people think it is.

Lottie is gorgeous and that look is great for her, I agree on that side of things. And I'm not against Paul!shipping across the board. But in this case... Absolutely doesn't work for me at all. Really really no good.

Honestly, like you said, 80% of the characters are like this. And you want Ming Yu to be better b/c she's Ying Luo's friend and potential ally. However, if 80% of them weren't petty scheming bitches, Ying Luo wouldn't be able to work around them/take advantage of them to get her righteous revenge.

My favorite bits are when the Emperor just manages all of them. "Here, do this and LEAVE ME ALONE." LOL
