I think I know you, but I don't want to say anything because of anon. If you are who I think you are, I had no idea, but this makes a lot of things make sense. You're amazing and mad brilliant, and not just for someone your age, either. I hope everything's okay.

If you aren't who I think you are, you're probably still awesome. Stay strong. ♥

[identity profile] 3goodtimes.livejournal.com 2009-01-11 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
102. Lots of people know about them. I've been enjoying their stuff since their comedy special on HBO a year or two ago.

108. Holy shit, where is that drawing from?

112. That's really silly.

125. Damn, I love you for this secret. <3

128. Me too!

129. I'm not in your fandom, but if you don't like spoilers maybe you ought to quit whining and just play the damn game. You can come back to fandom when you're done, can't you?

137. Of course you do! How can you not?

138. Hahaha wut?

148. That's sad.

153. I think he is too. The previews for his new movie strike me as pretty racist. And old dude "saves" non-white, urban youths after yelling at them to get off his lawn? Yuck.

159. Why should it scare you? We glorify killers all the time in our culture. At least with Dexter there's some genuine moral abiguity instead of plain hero worship. Anyway, the writers want you to root for the main character. Don't feel bad for enjoying a good show.

160. Those are the best icons you've seen? Huh. They look pretty basic to me.

161. Sexy. ;)

166. Your footnote about femmeslash pretty much negates your entire argument. I would have been with you otherwise.

Re: 166

(Anonymous) 2009-01-12 07:08 am (UTC)(link)
OP here. Having seen some of the replies to my secret, I'm really regretting adding that aside that was tangential at best.

However, I fail to see how it negates my argument. Let's say characters A and B are male and C and D are female. If I like reading about romantic interactions between A&B AND B&C AND C&D (because I don't tend to OTP), it will be loads easier to find fic for A&B and B&C than it will to find fic for C&D, in my personal experience. I thought the entire point of my secret was that this difference has no right to exist.

600x600 just isn't enough space to cover a nuanced topic without becoming extremely tedious, unfortunately. I know I could have worded just about everything better than I did.

183.

lol. Sometimes it IS what fandom is. It's not the same because frankly some stories are about love. Kubo Tite said Bleach wasn't all about romance but it was, reluctantly, part of the story. How stupid can you get just because of a squick. If you don't like it, it's cool. But those of us who read what people PUT IN THERE PURPOSEFULLY is bad? Lmao cute

(Anonymous) 2009-01-11 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
note how I wrote "romance stories = not my thing nor all there is to fandom", not "romance stories = shouldn't exist, ever"

Doctor who secrets: The new doctor looks kind of like Chase from House, if you squint. So he's fine in my book.

124. If you think you're bad, imagine how the writers for that game feel.

118, 151, 153

[identity profile] dragoon1940.livejournal.com 2009-01-11 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
118. That is the best plot bunny ever.

151. I ship it all, really.

153. Spike Lee is a fucking moron. You know why there weren't black people in "Flags of my Fathers"? Because the story wasn't about black soldiers in World War II. It was about that group of Marines, who put that flag up and then dealt with the aftermath, etc. It was about those people. And guess what? None of them were black in real life. One of them was a Native American.

So shut the fuck up and sit down before you make yourself look like a flaming idiot.

Clint Eastwood is the man.

This! Thanks for putting into words the pro-Clint sentiment that was stewing inside me.

And if Spike Lee ever makes a race-relations film as good as White Hunter, Black Heart, then he can talk. Not before.

138. That is a very bizarre secret.

146. Holy crap. I find this simultaneously awesome and scary.

163. I still miss that show almost as much as I miss the X-Files. But Callisto shrieked like a banshee way too much for me to actually want to see a lot of her, even though she was fucking badass.

Take It To the Comments: you make me laugh more than the stupid cosplay anon did.

I only counted two Eleven secrets today. I thought there'd be more.

I'm not entirely sure what the secret is here, but it sounds like you're feeling the way I was for the past half a year or so. I spent a good chunk of each day wishing I could turn back the clock somehow and undo the mistakes I had made. And then, I kid you not, I watched Meet the Robinsons, and that movie made me realize that I had to stop focusing so much on what went wrong in the past and look more at what I could do in the here and now. So, if you haven't watched that movie, I recommend you do so.

112. But there are limits on how many icons we can have and I have a lot of fandoms! D:

131. I gotta disagree with you there. If someone is trying to loose weight to be healthier -- and before anyone calls me out on this, I'm talkin' when their doctor says it will be good for them -- and cosplay and whatnot gives them motivation, I can't see that as a bad thing.

(Anonymous) 2009-01-11 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)

[identity profile] elfinpiper.livejournal.com 2009-01-11 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
111. LOL! Creative idea.

115. I don’t like it when my dog follows me into the bathroom. It squicks me. Haha. (but, I never minded when it was my cat… maybe because she was a girl?)

117. Writing is about conveying a message and portraying the world as the author sees it – yeah, usually glamorized, usually sensationalized – but the importance of the message is still there. Writing is meant to show the good and the bad, to offer hope or a good slap across the face. If the author connects with a reader in any way, then their story is worth reading. I don’t understand why people don’t get this, and assume that anything that isn’t High!Classic!Literature is something to be embarrassed about reading.

132. No idea what manga that is (not the Death Note one), but HAWT.

135. She has a simple, understated beauty. She’s more pretty than sexy. Although I bet she could definitely do sexy if she wanted to ;) But this works for her very well.

172. He’s not my type at all, but I thought he was so adorable in Benjamin Button regardless.

Re: 172

[identity profile] callmejude.livejournal.com 2009-01-11 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
The only movie I ever actually found him sexually attracive in was Fight Club (and even then it was only for the first half). In everything else, he registers to me almost as my favourite child stars do, which is basically, "OH, HE'S JUST TOO ADORABLE!!" XD

106 - I wasn't so young. I thought the same thing.

176 & 184 - I get too involved in videogames. A few years ago, I couldn't play Super Metroid. By the time I was out of the first fight with Ridley and escaped the explosions, my hands were shaking so hard I couldn't play, anymore. I've gotten a lot better, but still...

P.S.:

176 - That's okay. I'm scared of the Wonkatania song from the old Willy Wonka movie. And Pink Elephants on Parade from Dumbo. And Heffalumps and Woozles from Winnie the Pooh. =/

105: It's acceptable to make fun of Doctor Who and Torchwood as they are campy as shit but back the fuck off of Life on Mars as it is the best TV drama to ever grace this Earth no matter if it's "sci if" or not.

122: Who the hell cares? He's not Tennant and that is good enough for me.

[identity profile] sherrilina.livejournal.com 2009-01-11 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)

# 151

(Anonymous) 2009-01-11 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
It's okay, secret poster, the fact that you give other ships a chance makes you way cool.

Actually, most of the Kataangers I know have no issue with Zutara or Zutarians providing there is respect. The nice Zutarians who treat my ship with the respect they demand for their own ship are fine.

Unfortunately, months after the finale, many are refusing to let it go and just enjoy their ships (fanon, canon or otherwise) and all the positive things.

And if your flist can't accept you like Kataang a little than that's sad. I wish more Zutarians were more open-minded like you. I like AU Zutara and my die-hard Kataang friends don't care. I like Zutara art. Big flipping deal.

Shipping Kataang or even liking it isn't a crime and it isn't a bad thing. The fact that the fandom has allowed that opinion to flourish is one of the crappy things about the fandom.

151 OP

(Anonymous) 2009-01-12 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
Awww, thanks. I'm actually pretty open-minded about all my ships... or at least, I try to be.

Unfortunately, I've had some bad experiences with Kataangers (rather rabid ones, really) before and it only takes a few people flaming your primary ship to scare you from ever going near their ship. That on top of the epic wank that would ensue among my flist (okay, it's really only one person I worry about since she has repeatedly bashed Kataang and Maiko in her journal; my BFF would be confused, but she knows I'm really open about most ships so she'd forgive me XD), I'll avoid admitting to liking it.

[identity profile] weallfallout.livejournal.com 2009-01-11 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
130. You might not enjoy it much unless you've watched quite a bit of anime, especially mecha anime. It's pretty much one big parody. It's still enjoyable on it's own, I think, but you might miss a lot.

166. I agree... Well, except for the judging part. It just makes me sad, because most fans who hate het also hate femmeslash and are female themselves. :(

[identity profile] morgana006.livejournal.com 2009-01-11 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)

145: Personally, I watch it for all of the characters who aren't Batman. More Jaime, please! (Side Note: I wish there were more female team-ups...)
170: Stranger than Fiction secret! YAY!
173: It is things like this that make me want to watch more Merlin.
